This runs just about as good as it does on the PS4 original version and far better than the PS Vita version. It is by far the best way to get the game if you are not getting it on PC and prefer to play games on the go or at home on the television. There are more Digimon overall to use and collect across both games and it makes for many fun encounters. The story does have some translation issues from Japanese to English but most of them can be overlooked as the story is overall pretty interesting, you just have to be ready for the minor issue of only translating the game for one gender of player character for the first game. The second one has less issues in translation but there are still a few here and there but it didn’t take away from the experience for me.
So far I’ve gotten through most of Cyber Sleuth and haven’t even made it to Hacker’s Story yet and there is so much content in this game that I’ve loved and enjoyed bringing back my early childhood memories of watching Digimon. One thing I’d like to say about the story is that it is a lot better than the more recent Pokemon game with small side stories you can explore and get a better sense of the mentality that Digimon have, which isn’t found within Pokemon so much as they can’t express their emotions. Plenty of Digimon to catch and the fact that there is a de-evolution mechanic making it so you need to devolve your Digimon to get more stats so you can get the strongest one is unique and inventive. My description of this game may not be the best but it is well worth the money for the game and is a great game to play when on the go.
This includes both Cyber Sleuth and Hackers memory which were separate release in NA. It also includes the preorder DLC for both games. It also includes the same changes (the sistermon is still blue). The games are fun. It’s a monster collection game in the format of a JRPG. Think FF or similar. There’s probably around 60 hours of gameplay assuming you aren’t a completionist, otherwise it can easily double or triple. If you go in expecting pokemon or any of the play styles of the Digimon World games you will be disappointed because this is not it. (Though there IS a new Digimon World game on PS4 that IS like Digimon World 1).The only real gripe I have is the price. It is a port, it’s technically an “older” game and I feel like $40 would be a better price but this doesn’t really make it a “do not buy” so much as a “know what you’re getting into first”.
First of the game is an automatic must buy if you’re a Digimon fan or if you’ve been considering on getting this game if games like Pokémon have been disappointing you lately. This comes with two games each with different stories that take place around the same time. The battle animations are really well done btw and the story on both games is great. This is a game that grows with its audience and doesn’t insult your intelligence. Also searching and Evolving Digimon is SO addictive in this game! Btw the soundtrack is made by the same person who made the soundtrack for Danganronpa and the character models are made by the same person who made the characters for the game series Devil Survivor. I personally recommend this game if you’re looking for something refreshing and new also if you are a fan of monster catching type of games like Pokémon, Yokai Watch, and SMT.
The Nintendo Switch version of the Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth series doesn’t disappoint. This release contains both the original game and it’s follow up, providing a massive amount of content to play through. You assume the role of Aiba, a young person who is active in the immersive virtual internet landscape EDEN. After an encounter with a mysterious hacker, you gain access to Digimon, sentient net creatures that allow you to hack and explore EDEN. However, a strange encounter leaves your body in a coma while your conscious minds inhabits your virtual avatar. Capable of jumping between the digital world and the physical, you and your Digimon seek to uncover the mystery forces acting in EDEN and get your body back. The style of the game is best described as sci-fi elements blended with detective noir moments. Gameplay wise, this title follows the more rpg-centric Digimon games rather than the more pet-sim focused Digimon World games. A strong reading ability is required to enjoy this game if you’re purchasing this title for younger players. Also, the audio track is in Japanese with no English voice-over, but English sub-titles are available.Overall, the game is fun and has plenty of quirky characters and memorable set pieces. It does take its time to jump into the plot, and the RPG battle mechanics can feel a little stale after pouring numerous hours into the game.
It has been a rather long time since I really have played a Digimon game. My last one was Digimon World 3 on the PlayStation 1, which was probably over 15 years ago. With that said I looked forward to this coming out for the Switch. I’ve wanted these games for a while but never had a PS4 to play them, but to have them come together as a two pack it felt like a steal. So far it has been really worth it. I have only played through one of the games on the cartridge and took a lengthy time to complete, and I expect the second one to as well. So far it has felt worth the price tag for these games being how old they are.My only complaint with this game is that the gameplay can be a bit repetitive at times. However, if you enjoy Pokemon’s battle system you will most likely have no issue with this. It is very much like a JRPG game were you have a team to fight another team, and depending on your teams types they will have strengths and weaknesses against the opponent. Eventually I would find a lot of fights would become too easy with having 11 Digimon on a team while most opponents would only have 1 to 3.From a technical standpoint this game has been rather solid. I found no issues with any bugs or glitches, and for the most part it ran smoothly for a port onto the Switch. Early on in some cut scenes there would be a stutter or two but nothing that would prevent the game from being an enjoyable experience. I will only note that I have just started the second game on the cartridge so.
Honestly this was my first entry into the digimon game series. Other than playing the MMORPGs available for the computer, I never experienced any of the video games for any console. For my first entry into the digimon series, I am completely satisfied with these games. So far I’ve only finished Cyber Sleuth but I will be playing Hacker’s Memory soon enough. These games have an amazing storyline that has you hooked from start to finish. My only complaint is that the ending of the game is so final. Thankfully there is a bit of a postgame to continue playing although it does feel a little weird in light of the game’s ending. Plus, for the price, you get a great deal.
I played both games on PS4, but enjoying it 10x more on the Switch! One of the best Digimon RPG-based games in the series with many optional digital monsters to raise!I hope we’ll get Digimon World: Next Order on Switch next, as I can see it working better on the Switch then PS4 or Vita. I love the World series and would love to see more of it outside of Japan!!!
Port is extremely well done and it’s two games on one cartridge for $50.If you like turn based games in any capacity, I highly recommend this.
Digimon gets A LOT of flack and I really don’t know why. This game is so much fun. I enjoyed the anime’s growing up as well as the recents. This game is a lot like the ds games with way better graphics. Storyline is fun and never dull. Always something to do In This game such as training your digimon at the farms for better evolutions or fusions, main story quests, side quests, online pvp, pvp items to buy for you and your digimons. So if you played the ds games or are new to this style of digimon game…..I’d highly recommend it. You get 2 games with all the dlc’s as well…..so definitely worth the money in my opinion.
