This game is very challenging and fun. It does get very hard real quick and for rookie gamer like me that has been a struggle. I enjoy the game and have ordered a gaming guide to help me through the levels.
Defender is something of an oddity, an unusual hybrid combing elements of flight combat, sandbox fighting, and real time strategy into a surprisingly engaging package. You’ll be tasked with directly combating ground and airborne foes from your space fighter of choice, while also defending key points and deploying friendly ground forces to hold the line against the alien buggers. Flight controls are very arcade styled and fluid, and there are several ships and a relatively wide range of weapons available. Missions range from destroying key alien resources to guarding friendly structures, to rescuing stranded colonists who can be “spent” at various factories to construct friendly units like missile crawlers and tanks to assist you. In later missions, building and deploying these units correctly is very often as important as your own flying skills, leading to an interesting blend of flight combat and strategy as you very often have to multitask and use your units and your own ship to be in more than one place at once. A number of sci fi cliches and tributes to franchises such as 2001 and Starship Troopers rounds out the deal.Perhaps the main flaw with the game is what the title suggests: it’s almost always about defending assets. While the wide range of weapons and ships as well as friendly ground units at your disposal usually make this mostly enjoyable and not too difficult once mastered, it would have been nice to be able to undertake a lot more offensive style missions with.

Old classic done a new way. Great game overall. Very fun and after all these years still looks good as far as graphics and gameplay is smooth and easy
