I believe BF3 delivers one of the best multiplayer experiences on the market. The battlefields are large and vertical, the destruction is realistic and constantly altering the map (while some complain it’s not as good as advertised it’s light years ahead of anything else), the upgrades/perks are endless, and it delivers just the right amount of realism and fun. The firefights are intense, with great sound, and there are multiple ways to contribute to your team as soldier, recon (sniper), and support classes, in addition to driving vehicles, flying jets and helicopters, capturing or defending objectives, laying down explosives, or just padding your kill/death stats. The campaign here leaves a bit to be desired as it doesn’t match the intensity of multi-player and honestly was somewhat unmemorable for me now 6 months removed from completing it. That said, I still try to play multi-player regularly as DICE/EA have been pretty good about pushing free maps and updates. Get yourself in a squad!
DO NOT GET ME WRONGI’ve had my fair share of COD and BF3 and comparing them, like most of the other reviews, is like comparing Macs to PCs.So without any bias, here we goPros:The frostbite engine and motion controls are brilliantOnline gaming is definitely diverse, no two matches feel the same (depends on how you play though). Multiplayer will keep you occupied for a very long time, levelling up is fun, though some guns are definitely overpoweredCons:The campaign is fairly short and not very climatic. As one reviewer aptly describes most modern FPS games, the developers create a movie in which you have no control. If you don’t do exactly as they say (press a button, shoot that guy in time, move to that position) there’s no advancing in the game at all. It’s the same for all modern games, and it’s annoying for single playerConclusion: If you’re looking for a new single player feel, look elsewhere. If you want hours of fun and frustration online, this is the game you want
Battlefield 3 has hands down the best multiplayer, I have played them all (red orchestra 2, Halo (all even 4), all call of duty including black ops 2). The sheer size of the maps, the destructible environments, the vehicles on land, sea, and in the air all come together to make this multiplayer experience the best yet. I like that it is significantly harder than something like call of duty thats nothing more than a twitch shooter with maps so small the range of a gun hardly matters. I like how the gun parts make a realistic difference (heavy barrel- more accuracy, silencer- less flash, quieter, shorter range, etc) and theres no stupid "perks" like reloading 2x as fast etc that makes COD a joke. If you bored of the childish COD or if your just looking for the best online shooter around this is your game!
I am absolutly amazed at the ammount of bad reviews this game is getting. Don’t get me wrong I love the call of duty series but I personaly believe this game takes it to the next level.I am a US Army veteran that has seen combat in Iraq & Afganistan and I can tell you that this so far is as close to a real firefight that you will find on a console. The game is intense, and very realistic.I have played through part of the single player so far and I love it. On par with what you have been getting with COD or MOH over the past few years. Graphics blow the past iterations out of the water (if you install high def textures). As most of us know the focus on these games is multiplayer, and all I can say is INTENSE!! There is a bit of a learing period and you do need to level up quite a bit before you will really get this game but it is sweet once you do. Hands down I would have purchased this day one if it was only multiplayer. If your a fanboy and your stuck on the COD formula of killstreaks and unrealistic (However fun it may be) gameplay this may not be for you. If your into realistic combat simulations, I can tell you from experience this is as close as it gets so far…
EA finally did a game some justice and released some fairly quality material after a while. Battlefield 3 is the Call of Duty competitor and it’s got it’s eyes set on a much bigger prize with it’s ambitions. Battlefield 3 boasts much, much larger map sizes than most AAA FPS titles, with plenty of vehicles to suit your fancy scattered around pretty much all of them. It features everything from small boats, to tanks, to jets in the ways of vehicles and your standard arsenal of foot soldier weapons as in any modern-day FPS. This game is a nice refresher from Call of Duty with the larger maps, more team-based multiplayer play and a generally more simulation feel rather than action like the Call of Duty series. The campaign is absolutely terrible, though and I wouldn’t even recommend you touch it. It’s a waste of time and the story is dull and boring and every single character is totally forgettable and the plot is mediocre at best. I honestly wish they would just stick to making Battlefield multiplayer only, if they are going to put so little effort into campaign, I honestly find Call of Duty’s campaign more interesting, but I find Battlefield’s multiplayer much more enjoyable, especially with friends.
I was extremely disappointed in the beta released for this game just weeks before it launched. I went from hyped up to let down. I went ahead and purchased it anyway because a few of my friends were getting it, and am I glad that I did. Why EA/Dice chose to use Rush Mode – Operation Metro for the public beta is a business move I will never understand, because it was misleading in a bad way. There were no vehicles to be found, the combat was shallow and generic, weapons did way too much damage and on top of that many feared the bugs in the beta would not be ironed out by release. They were wrong, and so was I.It turns out I personally don’t care for Rush Mode, it is very similar to Demolition (not to be confused with Domination) from the COD series where you have an offense side trying to invade the enemy base and plant a bomb in 1 of 2 locations. This mode to me seems very partial to the defending side and I just don’t care for it. This was the mode presented in the beta along with the party issues, the ridiculous damage (which was changed in the retail – you no longer die in 2 bullets), screen flicker, infantry only map, camping, etc. It is no wonder the beta made so many people sceptical of the finished game. Now enter Conquest Mode, the bread and butter of real Battlefield roots. This is what Battlefield games are about. This is much more akin to (again) COD’s Domination mode, although Conquest has been around much longer. You capture various flags across the ma.
I have no idea why so many people are crapping on this game with one star reviews. I have played through the single player campaign and have enjoyed the multiplayer immensely.Single Player:The story beats are well done and I personally didn’t mind the quick time events. They might have been overplayed a bit but when they work well they only add to the immersion. The level design is well done and the difficulty seems on point for what one might expect from a “normal” difficulty setting.I don’t want to give to much away but the story involves Russians, missing nukes, and major world locations. If you’ve played a call of duty game or a battlefield game you know what to expect. Fast action, little character development and a lot of gun play. The texture pack download (about 1.5 GB) is necessary, I played the beta and was worried because it looked worse than Battlefield Bad Company 2 (BC2), but once the texture pack was downloaded, ta da, looks sharp and a step previous Battlefield games. The lighting and dust effects really stand out. The flashlights and red lasers on guns are a nice touch.Hands down, this game has the best war sounds in any game I have ever played. Nothing sounds better then this. Bullets ricocheting off walls, it seems as if every gun has its own sounds and a grenade exploding near sounds completely different if it’s far away or in a room etc…everything sounds great. They have added additional soldier screams when players get shot which add to the ch.
Ok if you have played other Battlefield titles you will not be expecting this…. SUPER CURSING MODE ACTIVATED. Seriously though the F bomb is dropped in the second/first level every two seconds and it just stays bad trust me. The reason i say first/second level is because the real first level has no cursing in it (at least not english) and then the level after that which i was told by numerous sources is the first level has the F bomb in it over 9000 times. (had to use that<<). other than that gameplay is awesome and i have no idea how online multiplayer is. there is no Local. But it is definitely worth looking at if the cursing wont bother you at all. Action wise yea it’s cool and i really love the graphics and the way everything looks. Oh that reminds me expect in game light glare to make it a challenge for things like night missions. But maybe rent and then buy if you like it just a thought thanks.
For this review, I will assume that you enjoy shooters and skip to the details that matter.Battlefield is a modern day shooter that is built first and foremost for large scale multiplayer. The game features huge open worlds where you can take on opposing armies. There is also a single player campaign, but unfortunately it appears to have been an afterthought for DICE (the design team).MultiplayerThis game is for anyone that enjoys military shooters and teamwork. If you are more of a lone wolf type, this game might not be for you. The game thrives on working together in small squads of 4. There are up to 4 squads per team, and two teams per game. This allows individuals to work within squads to achieve specific goals to help the team win. There is a very in depth progression system that allows you to open up new weapons, mods, and other equipment as you level up. Leveling up can be accomplished by killing opponents, healing or reviving teammates, supplying ammo, achieving goals and many other things. It is quite possible to be the high scorer in a game without ever even firing a single bullet. It is likewise very difficult to be the high scorer if all you do is shoot people. The only real negative I have from the multi is the lack of destructible environments which the series has been known for lately.Single PlayerThe single player campaign is pretty bland. It doesn’t bring anything new to the table or have any truly memorable moments, but it can be a fun distraction.
I could write a massive review for this but its late and i’m tired and thinking about the game, I now want to play it soon. So, I will say, I’ve played games my whole life (26 now) and fps’s since cs, every bod,mw and I haven’t bought mw3 and don’t plan to, and this, battlefield 3, is my first foray into the bf franchise. I bought this game and realized how stale and “resting on its laurels” mw has become, and knew that I’d found a new, more innovative, fun, complex, rewarding, and enjoyable game to play and murder people through tricky situations in. There are more options than in codmw, more vehicle mayhem, and just overall smarter tactics made possible. I will say that the size of conquest and rush maps make for tedious “run-up” times, but I like the game modes at their core. I would like a capture the flag game mode. Overall highly recommend this game.
