What a hell of a classic!
If you had a N64 and were a huge wrestling (more specifically a WWF fan), there’s a chance you got this, along with WWF’s other N64 games. If you loved WWF, had a N64 but didn’t get it and are looking into it now, here’s what you probably ought to know about the game (from someone else’s perspective, so I know experiences will be different)As you turn on the game, you’ll get a couple of screens that usually would show up when turning on a video game, along with a video that basically introduces the game itself (don’t hit any buttons to get to this screen, otherwise you’ll be jumping straight into the game’s menu), which is actually a good introduction video for the game, I think. I believe you’ll enjoy it, unless you’re not too big on introduction sequences like that and just want to jump straight into the gameplay. But hey, that’s cool, too. When you get to the locker room-type menu, it’ll take you to a menu, which gives you a variety of match types you can play. Singles match, tag team, handicap, cage match, hardcore, ladder etc. It’s a really cool selection of matches. Some arenas you can choose to play in is the traditional RAW is WAR arena, Smackdown arena, Backlash and Summerslam, among others. Once again, some pretty cool choices you get here. Moving onto the superstar selection, the choices you get are also really cool. Variety is plentiful here. Some wrestlers you can play as are-The Rock-The Undertaker-Chris Jericho-Steve Blackman-Al Snow-Stone Cold Steve Austin-Edge-Bradshawthis isn’t even ten wrestlers. If you’re impressed, expect more. A lot more. Along with each wrestler, you can even change their attire. For example, the Undertaker in this game, he is in his A.B.A. gimmick. If you press the yellow ‘>’ button, you’ll change his attire to something more akin to what his older attire was like. You can also edit any superstar you want. So, you can even buy the Undertaker’s older attires and then edit him to where he wears them. Cool, huh? There’s also a season mode you can go to. Well, various season modes, really. You can choose to go after the titles that were in the WWF at that time. World Wrestling Federation Championship, Hardcore Championship, Tag Team Championship etc. Really neat that you could do this, unlike other wrestling games. Also, the story may change whether you win, lose, choose who loses (as a guest referee). This was extremely creative and why future wrestling games didn’t pick up on this as well, I don’t know. It’s awesome how winning or losing just one match can completely alter your career. The various storylines they have for each twist and turn and each championship belt choice you choose to go after is just..amazing. It seems bizarre how a 13 year old game gives you such an amazing and creative experience, yet WWE games today didn’t pick up on that. You only got a few different storylines for, what, one title? You couldn’t go after EVERY title and get completely different storylines altogether. Also, if you go for the WWF title with, say, Chris Jericho, and you successfully make your way to getting it, don’t think it ends there. After you win the title, you can go back to Chris Jericho (or the character you want) and now you get a new storyline where you defend your title. You really just have to experience the game itself to understand what I’m trying to say. Now, to the gameplay. It’s good. Really good, actually. However, if you’re on the career mode and you’re on even the easiest difficulty, the game can totally be infuriating. It gets progressively harder as it goes, I’ve noticed. And it can definitely pull your strings. It can be very hard to reverse moves, but it’s not impossible. You will most likely be able to become more used to it. Also, you will probably feel very ”cheated” when you play the game sometimes. When you’re trying to throw in a punch or execute a grapple, the computer somehow finds a way to hit or catch you first (even if you threw your move before he/she did). It’s very, very annoying and it will make you rip your hair out. But it doesn’t totally ruin the gameplay experience. It’ll just make you totally ruin your wall, door or any object close to you.The game is fun. It does take some getting used to, but you will probably love the game very quickly. It helps if you’re an old school wrestling fan, as well. I didn’t cover EVERYTHING about the game either, but I got a good bit. If you’re a collector of wrestling games, or just love them, this one deserves to be in that collection, if it’s not already. Fun game, infuriating at times, but it’s like a puppy that just destroyed your new couch. No matter how furious you’ll be, you’ll still play with and love it.Pros:-Nice selection of matches, arenas and wrestlers-Unbelievable career modes. Just..experience it.-Being able to edit any superstar is a really nice feature.Cons:-Opponents can easily destroy you despite playing on the easiest difficulty. Very infuriating and will make you feel the game’s being unfair.-It takes time to try and reverse attacks/grapples. You will firmly believe you hit the reversal buttons but no matter how hard you hit it, the computer will get you anyway and leave you knowing you hit it at the right time. Once again, not a very fair thing the game gives you.(Review written entirely from my opinion and view/experience of the game)

Best N64 American Wrestling game
the game turned out to be a great purchase. There was very little wear on the game itself and it worked perfectly in the system. On time delivery as well.
Game cartridge was in great condition
Shipped and arrived earlier than expected! Cartridge is in near perfect shape, with a slight imperfection on the label.
I was hesitant when I bought this used because of all the reviews about earlier versions not being able to save game data permanently. But I got a good one. Not only does it save and keep my create-a-wrestlers, It is by far the most exciting wrestling game I have and I love that it is the original “WWF” instead of the “WWE” BS that is the result of the stupid “world wildlife fund” which has not turnbuckles to jump off from.

It has been 12 years and I still keep my N64 in excellent working condition just so I can play WWF No Mercy! Here is the breakdown.Graphics- Very clean. Characters are easily identified and and well detailed. Although the images are rendered a little simple or blocky, I think that the style is easy to love. It is nice to play something that looks like a game and not a sim.Gameplay- Controls are easy to use but take practice to master. This means that anyone can play it but those that devote the time will be rewarded with dramatic game experiences.Sound- Sound effects are awesome. Mat slams and punches are satisfying. Music is a little weak. You will hear “Dig Diggity Dogg” in your sleep.Game modes are very extensive and rewarding. Best part is that the story modes are actually fun and do not feel like a job.Create-a-wrestler is amazing. Unlock or buy parts and moves to create any wrestler you can think of. Also, you can store CAWs on memory cards. So you almost have unlimited amounts of CAWs to create. You can also edit the in-game wrestlers appearance and profiles. My only gripe is that you cannot edit the moves of in-game wrestlers. To do this you have to clone the wrestler into the CAW mode where you can then edit the move set. Seems annoying to have two Tazz just to get a moveset more correct. But there are multiple Foley’s so it not too uncommon.I could continue to ramble on about the greatness that is this game but if you are a wrestling fan you should own and love this game.THQ! Hire AKI back and let’s get a sequel! It’s been almost 13 years!
