I played through some of the mini games and enjoyed it. The only problem is that unless you read how to play this, it is confusing.
With so much to do, this game is a little overwhelming. Lots of fun for those who want to create their own games.
Both my boys (ages 8 and 11) love this game. They love making their own games: designing graphics, composing music, developing game ideas. This game is great for encouraging creativity and higher-order thinking in children. (It’s probably good for adults in those areas too!) This is not the typical pick-up-and-play/instant gratification DS game. It takes some time and thought. But the results are worth it. Not everything in life is quick. Patience and effort are important and do pay off. This game teaches that sometimes the fun is in the effort and forethought. When you think about and create your own game, “the sky’s the limit.” After you have put forth that effort, you can play it and make improvements. The fun is in the process! Also, once you have created a cool game, you can use the wireless function to share it with your friends’ DS’s. You can also put it on your Wii console! How fun is that !?! This is a terrific, non-run-of-the-mill, game, especially for kids.
I am going to review this from a developer point-of-view, instead of from user point-of-view like everybody else. I believe there is enough reviews out there from user point-of-view. Here is a fresh perspective from a self-proclaimed hacker/maker/game designer. As far as the platform is concerned, you can make games with it. However, it is NOT a programming/scripting language. More to be precise, it is event-based, object-oriented, description language. What does that mean?Event-based means that the program capture and responds to events, such as tapping, timer, object collisions, and so on. This is called the “trigger”.Object oriented means that the program is composed of different objects (called “actor”) with corresponding behavior programmed in. Also states, flag, or “switch”.Description language means that you do not provide an algorithm or a step-by-step instructions, but rather you provide explanations of how an object is supposed to be present in the environment, and react to it. This is the “action-instruction” both the initial object placement, and the subsequent description of how to behave regarding various triggers/events.The designers have selected a very clever set of instructions. These aren’t the traditional game development algorithm set, but they do provide most of the capabilities desired. There are some instructions missing. Namely “Tap Screen” can use area parameter, and “Switch object” can use “Switch OTHER object”. You can do a work-around the limitatio.
Shipping was fast, game is funPrettu much is two games in one.One is for game creating and the second is the usual wario ware game people know and love
I do not play this game but two of my children do and they love it so much – to the point where we bought two of them so they could play at the same time. There are many neat things they have done on this game. They have made their own music, record and alter sounds and make their own minigames. My son created a version of duck hunt after seeing it at his uncles house. It encourages creativity. It has kept my 8 and 5 year old (boy and a girl)busy creating and sharing with each other and us. It is actually one of the few games where I hear more giggles than arguing. One thing I have noticed is that it does take an awfully long time to create detailed images and the games in general for a relatively short game playing time. While my kids do have unnatural patience to do this, the “kid” side of them comes out once in a while and they get tired designing all day to play for a few minutes.
this game is really cool, and it came at such a great price! great condition, and interesting concept for a game–definitely more creative than i thought it might be
My 8 year old will not put this game down, which is saying something, since he’s a pokemon addict. Seriously. he’ll clean his room, eat salmon, anything to be able to play.
Great Game and my Son Happy with it
Warioware D.I.Y. is amazing. It delivers exactly what it promises: The most entertaining, easy-to-learn game-making toolbox in history. There are reasonable limits to what you can do, but–within those boundaries–the creation possibilities are infinite.By the way, there’s a full game in here too…and it’s a lot deeper than it initially appears (After two weeks of play, features are still unlocking). But the included game–as is–isn’t the reason for purchase. Not at all. This thing is a cartoonist’s paradise. A game maker’s dream. An amusement park for animators and composers. As others have mentioned, it’s not for everybody, and you won’t really see what this thing’s capable of until you’ve invested a couple of hours in the hilarious and helpful tutorials. If, however, you love to draw or make music (and you don’t have to be very skilled at either) and you have any interest at all in creating games…well, what are you waiting for? You may never want to remove this cartridge from your DS.For folks who can’t draw or write music, no worries: Using shapes, stamps, and the helpful auto-composer, you’ll be turning out games in no time. Seriously, once you’ve done the tutorial, you can create a simple projectile-through-a-moving-target game in two minutes. And if you do have some art and/or music skills….again, what are you waiting for? From front to back, Warioware D.I.Y. is presented with humor, charm and the kind of solid polish that Nintendo’s famous for. The learning system.
