A favorite game of our family’s We gave each of our, now adult, children this game as gifts…. They screamed so loud when they all opened them with excitement it was deafening. Since then they have played the game with friends at their own homes/apartments and everyone agrees it is one of the best ‘board’ games. We still play this on a regular basis when our children come home, with our nieces and nephews, and with my parents. It keeps your mind sharp as you need to calculate your move in advance, and then adjust the plan as the maze shifts.
Pretty fun game for most ages! Unique idea with the moving board pieces. After initial introduction game is not too complicated to catch on and play. Ages 6 and up should have fun with this game. Ages 8 and up will have more luck in actually strategizing how to play and win.Good game for puzzle-minded people. Younger kids playing with older may find some frustration due to strategy, but a bit of luck at play as well.
I have been a board game lover all my life. I am always open for a traditional game of chess or go, a family night of Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble or an all-out nerd night with Shadows Over Camelot or Warhammer. My 3.5 yeard old son seems to have also acquired this interest, so I am now in a quest to find games that we both enjoy playing together.Last November I came across Labyrinth, a game I had not considered before due to its childish-looking cover. Even it was rated 8+, I decided to give it a try due to the overwhelming good reviews in retrolio. Oh, what a right decision! Labyrinth is that kind of game where the concept, the gameplay and the artwork come together to provide a masterpiece of family entertainment. But enough general praise; let me give you the detail of why I love this game.THE RULES- In labyrinth, you have a deck of cards. Every turn, you look at your top card in the deck and then try to bring your pawn to the right place in the board where that item is. So if your top card is the sword, you will have to move your pawn to the place where the sword is- The labyrinth does not always have a path to the item you want to pick. That is why there is an extra tile. You can insert this tile from any of the yellow arrows (look at the picture of my son inserting a tile). This will shift all that line, and reshape the whole labyrinth so you can have a path- To win, you need to find all the treasures shown in your cards and go back to the start point- While the rules mig.
We love this game for game nights. I have two boys 10 and now 12 years old, one has ADHD and sitting through long games is torture for him. This goes quick and changes enough to keep him engaged for one ore 2 games during our game night. It’s easy to play and challenging still because of all the moving pieces. We’ve had our younger nephews over who played as well without problems (6 and 8).
I bought this on a whim, during a weekend sale, and I would have happily paid full price for it. I’ve always enjoyed any type of board game, card game etc… and it’s fun to find a new one. I’ve played 2, 3 and 4 player and I would say you need 3 to 4 people to have the most fun with this.Games last 30 to 45 minutes and it takes about 3 minutes to teach someone the rules.I would suggest leaving the piece pushed out of the maze where it is until the person whose turn it is, is ready to move. Otherwise, you tend to forget the previous move, which the rules state you can’t undo.-Ian
I bought this game for our daughter and her family. The children range in age from almost 3-over 10 and the adults love games too, so this was a fantastic choice. The three kids played with their Mom and grandparents, with the youngest teamed up with another adult as it is not a game for small kids but they seem to like the interaction and the tiles being able to be slid along and the markers being moved around the board. Our six year old is thrilled with this game, and between Christmas Day and today, this game must have been played at least 25 times, with no exaggeration. It is a fantastic way to get children to stop and think and plan ahead and to use their mind to figure out their moves. It is challenging but so is life and this is a good way to get kids to settle down and concentrate which is hard to have them do with all the excitement of the holidays, and our grandkids did just that. We had a lot of quiet time using this game and also a little frustration but that was mostly from us adults who like to get things done quickly and can’t. The planning ahead in this came can come to a halt with the move before you and then make you think more about what way to proceed and that is good for the mind of any age. Would recommend this highly as a family game especially or for two or more older children to use as competition in planning ahead and then having to rethink the situation. Loved it and will get many more chances to enjoy it as the game’s lure is still very hi.
Very fun game with 4 players. Can either be fast paced or very slow paced due to everyone over strategizing. You think you have a strategy until three turns later and the whole Labyrinth is completely new. We played it as a buffer before monopoly and it went a lot longer than expected. About 40 minutes in total.4-1/2 – 5 stars for gameplay, 4 stars due to the look of the game. It honestly looks cheap and the color scheme is weird. Why is the background blue in a maze? The cards have a cheap/old look to them and it just looks low quality. But if that doesn’t bother you, then it’s a fun one and done game. Will be a while before it’s back in rotation with us. I feel like it’s one of those games that just sits on the shelf for a long time and only comes out when we are burned out of our regular game night games.*Also the instructions are wrong and contradicts itself, states 4 playing pieces included and then tells you the players choose one of the 6 playing pieces insinuating 6 players lol.I’ve attached 3 photos, two showing how the instructions are wrong. Good thing it didn’t cost too much or I would be highly disappointed.
The only thing I found lacking was the instructions. Some things were not very clear, and other things made no sense. The game talks about having 6 pieces, but there are only 4Overall game play can be played by kids or adults. Mechanics are simple enough, but strategy can really make or break a game. Watching the board change from a jumbled mess to a clear path is really fun, and having random cards given as objectives keeps things interesting each game. Half the treasures are fixed on the board, and the other half move around with the tiles. With how the board is made the game keeps its shape, and you can easily move the tiles around and not ruin your game in the process.
This game is awesome. I had never heard of it before but while searching for board games for our family I came across this and decided to give it a try. The basic gist is that my 7 year old and I love it. It’s a great challenge to be able to play against each other as YOU MOVE THE BOARD AROUND while trying to capture various items of treasure (and while trying to keep your opponent from doing so). It requires a bit of skills and thinking ahead but it’s not so much that my 7 year old can’t handle it.I also like that it’s a relatively quick game (30 mins or so) and I like the fact that it’s not a ‘dumbed down’ version of an older game but instead appears to be the original from Germany. If you enjoy board games that require strategy and include a fantasy aspect this is for you.
Some games take forever to teach someone, so even though they are awesome, my hubby and I never take them with us to game nights with friends or over to the fam’s house to play after dinner because we would confuse them…However, this game is EASY to learn, can be explained in a minute or less, is different every time you play, and is fun for a variety of types of players (super strategic or just playing for the heck of it). We love playing with just to the two of us as well, which isn’t always true of all games. It could also be played by a wide variety of ages!On the boring side of a review, the board is thick and heavy duty feeling and the token characters are really detailed Nd nice looking! I would feel awesome giving this as a gift because it feels like a quality, expensive game.
