Grafisch gelungen, akkustisch annehmbar und vom Umfang her ok hätte Ridge Racer 64 das Zeug zum Top-Rennspiel auf dem N64 gehabt.Leider ist das Driften in allen drei zur Verfügung stehenden Einstellungsvarianten nicht optimal kontrollierbar. In Verbindung mit der Tatsache, dass der Lenkeinschlag der Wägen zu gering ist, also dass man nur mit driften gewinnen kann, schmälert sich der Spielspass etwas.Insgesamt ein gutes, wenn auch sehr arcadelastiges Rennspiel – auch heute noch.Mit ein, zwei Strecken mehr, einer etwas besseren Kolissionsabfrage und einer feineren Steuerung hätte RR64 ein Hit werden können.

Namco’s beloved Ridge Racer series was revered for being the best, arcade style racing games to ever grace a console system ….and it was only on the Playstation. From the arcade scene, it moved to the PS1 and helped sell lots of systems. Then, Namco made a huge announcement: an enhanced version of Ridge Racer was released on the N64 in 1998. It had all of the tracks from the PS1 title, all the cars and stages plus 4 all-new tracks and up to 4 players can race each other at the same time.The graphics are sharp and colorful. The frame rate does not drop at all and the music is vintage Ridge Racer all the way. The controls are easy to get into. The game gets harder as you progress through the single player mode, unlocking cars and stages but it’s fun at the same time. If you love racing games and you come across this gem, pick it up. ******HIGHLY RECOMMENDED*******
