I bought this game because I knew that the character animations were done by Studio Ghibli, and I love their drawing style. But aside form that, I was also craving for another adventure/fantasy RPG-type game. I have not finished the game yet, but so far I find it to be a very well-made game. When it comes to RPGs, the storyline has to keep me hooked, otherwise I will lose interest. This game accomplishes that just fine, despite the fact that it has a storyline similar to most RPGs. For this one, it’s save the world from a sage gone mad, while a boy searches for his father, but that’s just in a nutshell. However, I’ve taken a liking to the characters in the game, so it doesn’t really matter to me. If you really want to make the game interesting, do what I do: Imagine the game itself is a “Studio Ghibli film” and look at the conversation scenes as it would be played like in an animated movie (and assign whatever kind of voice you think fits each character). But enough of Studio Ghibli, onto the gameplay: The gameplay is very straightforward. For common battles, you have 5 minutes to eliminate all the enemies. For boss battles, usually 10 minutes. Most battles are eliminating all your enemies, or defeating a boss. The missions can vary though. You’ll frequently have to use your stylus to draw spells. Spells are the trademark of the game, and it gets interesting after you are able draw two “runes” (the spells) in succession, meaning with the 18? runes you are given, you can make a.
This game is alot of fun if you like RPGs. The touch screen part is really cool. The game is kinda hard though. Like on the boss levels it took me about, I’m not exagerating this, 30 tries to beat it. But other than the difficulty level this game is really awesome. GET IT!!!!
great game!
Got the game for less then ten dollars. Its pretty good the gameplay is where its at but the story is boring and predictable. Casting spells with the stylus is neat and the combat is all real time so you awlays have to stay attentive as you die pretty quick. Its an rpg and action adventure and a little bit of rts blended into one. It has three endings, and wi-fi battles but haven’t found a single person playing. Good game, worth it for the cheap prices you can find now.
About Lost Magic for the DS…This was one of those games that you either love or hate, and has been getting a lot of mixed reviews. I decided to rent it from GameFly, and liked it so much I bought it outright. I will say this about it, it’s slow to get into for about the first hour or so, but if you stick with it, it gets better, and you can even go back and repeat maps for extra experience. If you liked Pokemon, Dragon Warrior Monsters and games of their ilk, I think you should give this one a shot.Note:The Bad:You will be re-playing certain maps over and over usually due to the strict time limit or your monster’s lack-of-pathfinding skills. And if you can’t sketch the runes (or, like my hubby, can’t draw anything at all) this game will be an exercise in frusteration. But, if you are willing to overlook these small issues, you’ll find a creative rts/rpg hybrid that really does use the touch screen of the ds to great effect without being gimmicky.Folks, THIS is the sort of thing that simply CAN’T be done on any other system. Pehaps, if they deign to make a sequel they could get rid of the stupid time limit, work on the AI intellegence, and fix the rollercoaster difficulty. Yes, it’s hard, but fun, and I find I keep picking it up to play again-and-again when I swore I wouldn’t play it anymore..The Good:LostMagic is kind of an action RPG, but it’s sort of an RTS, with a few puzzle and strategy RPG elements (as well as monster-catching) thrown in the mix. It broke down such genr.
LEGITPLAYED IT (AGAIN)LOVE IT (AGAIN)GOTTA HAVE IT (GO BUY THIS GAME NOW BEFORE THEY STOP SELLING IT)Wanted to relive an old game and this was it. As I said LEGIT, its the same game just sold by a different company
Loved it since I was a kid, and I’m glad to replay it. One thing though is it requires timing, quick stylus responses and gestures, and a tolerance for repeating dialogue. For example if you lose a level you must go through all that levels storyline/dialogue all over again.
Many third party titles for the DS don’t take the full advantage of the system’s stylus and touch screen that they could, but Ubi Soft and Taito’s Lost Magic is an exception. Lost Magic appears to be a tried and true RPG, and it is at it’s heart, but it’s innovative delivery and solid gameplay make it one of the better RPG’s on the DS, as well as offering some features that make it worth checking out on it’s own. Lost Magic revolves around young magician Isaac; who soon learns that the fate of the world is in his hands. Without giving too much away, Lost Magic features a great story that has a surprising amount of twists and turns that will keep you interested in the game alone. What really sets Lost Magic apart from the pack though is the use of the stylus and touch screen, which almost ends up like that of a proverbial magic wand. The game has a great look and strategy to it as well, while providing a healthy challenge as well. This department however is where Lost Magic’s biggest flaw is apparent. There is a steep learning curve that comes out of nowhere that will frustrate you. If you can get through this flaw however, along with the buggy online multiplayer as well, you’ll find that Lost Magic is a blast regardless. All in all, Lost Magic is an interesting and even innovative RPG for the DS that should be checked out by DS owners and RPG fans alike.
My son had this game before, it was stolen. He loved gettingit for his birthday, made his day! Thank you.
I was very excited about this game when i rented it a few weeks ago, and boy was I not dissappointed! Awesome gameplay, mixing both RTS and RPG elements into a near flawless blend of w00tness.That being said, there are SOME flaws to this great game. The monsters you use lack any sort of AI what-so-ever, which means guiding them through maze like levels and trying not to get them caught on walls. The time limit makes it interesting, but it feels like the developers didn’t go through the game and test to see if the times were actually do-able, (ie, they’re very difficult missions in some places).Though all in all, the spells make up for it. you draw out the spells on the touch screen, the more acurataly you draw them, the more powerful they are. With over 390 spell combos, its very worthwhile to test all of them out!Overall, I give this game a four star rating!
