Walk It Out delivers. After using the game for two weeks, I look forward to my daily simulated walk. The horrible pop music I have been stomping along to has become stuck in my head. The game is effective because it is addictive– I am motivated to complete the “capsules” and fill empty “Rhythm Island” with all the objects, vegetation, and infrastructure “events”. I am also motivated to walk farther and longer every time I play the game, to beat my own records. In these respects, Walk It Out does what it advertises. It encourages exercise through fun. I am glad to have the game and would recommend it to others.I play with the Wii Balance Board and, contrary to other reviewers’ experiences, I find I can lift my feet off the board to walk in place just fine (despite the game’s instructions), as long as I go gently. I tried the nunchuk-in-pocket mode once, but found it impossible to adjust the camera with the drag-and-click wiimote setting. Perhaps a DDR pad would be best, but I am happy with the balance board. The game does have its weaknesses. As mentioned before, the music is sickeningly sweet and very limited– I find it difficult to acquire new tracks during gameplay, and I have mine set relatively easy. After thirty or forty minutes of walking, songs– bad songs– begin to repeat. I find myself keeping at it just to win new songs and prevent future irritation. In general, the game has a strangely unpolished feel to it. All instructions read as though written by teenaged non.
I got this game the other day, after reading such good reviews. I have to agree, this game is definitely worth your time. It is fun and motivational as you gain points for walking to the beat and you can buy landscape for the island you walk on, as well as unlocking more parts of the island and getting cd fragments toward songs. You could easily play this game for a long time–I have to admit, I’ve gotten somewhat extreme with playing the game the last few days for the exercise benefit. I have walked 21 miles over the last 3 days, burning nearly 3000 calories–and it was fun. For my two cents, it’s a great game. If you get it you will know why it is one of the top shops (at least as I write this) on retrolio.P.S. My wife and I are both sore, but I’m glad to see that this game actually can get you in shape if you put forth the effort.
I’ve had this game for a little over a month and cannot stop playing it. As an overworked and sleep-deprived physician in residency, after a long day in the hospital, the LAST thing I want to do is drive to the gym during my precious time off to work out. Purchasing a Wii has been the perfect solution for my busy lifestyle, and this game in particular has motivated me to exercise every day more than any other Wii game.A game centered solely around walking might not sound like a rigorous cardiovascular workout, but I assure you that it can be. I’ve been using the
I have to say this upfront – I hate exercise. I am not lazy – if I find a sport I like, I do it. I work at it because I enjoy it, but to just sit and lift heavy lead plates until my elbows snap off at the seams – not my idea of a good time. Sweat and gasp, in place or around the neighborhood for 3 hours – also not my idea of having a blast – if that makes me lazy, alas I must be . . . :)I discovered a cure, however, for my boredom and reluctance to work out – and that of course is Walk It Out. When I first got this ‘game’ I discovered a nice thread/discussion about the software here at retrolio titled ‘Share Your Results From Using Walk It Out’. The people have been inspiring, funny, and a strong motivator. I tried then to describe how I was feeling and what I was up against. That wall that I described then is slowly diminishing – the reluctance to move has been replaced by an inability, inexplicably, to STOP MYSELF FROM MOVING. Yes, old dogs can learn new tricks. I offer my initial observations from that discussion in the hopes that anyone doubting the usefulness and fun of Konami’s wonderful program will doubt no longer.*****I do not know if I can express this well – I will try to paint a picture of the last 5 years in a couple of sentences. I have spent the last 5 years, slowly and steadily, unhappily but on a seemingly unalterable course, of gaining 102 lbs on a frame already 45 lbs overweight. I am 5′ 9.5″ – I went from 243 lbs to 345 lbs. I bought Wii Fit Plus an.
This game is absolutely wonderful! I am a die-hard fan of Farmville and Sorority Life on facebook, and this games previces those games. But instead of earning money in meaningless ways, you walk to earn your money. By walking correctly to the beat of the music, you earn points that in turn you can use to buy different things on the island. Things you can buy range from cars, houses, trees, various other buildings, pieces of cds that unlock more music, bridges etc. I started playing the game yesterday, and I have played for over 5 hours. (Yes, I know… I am addicted) I have walked over 12 miles since I started playing the game! I have never in my life went to the gym and walked that far. It truly is a fun way to get you up and off of the couch. My calves are actually sore today, so I know I was doing something beneficial for my body. After 5 hours of play, I have yet to see all of the island. On top of that, I’m quite convinced that you could play this game everyday for the next year and still not be able to buy everything on the island. There is definitely a challenge to this game if you feel you can buy everything on the island. If that is you… happy walking!
I’ve had WIO for nearly a year now, and you can count me among those who were skeptical when it was announced (walking? that’s all?) and then quickly became a convert. The simplicity of this game, if you can even call it that, is probably its greatest attribute. Once you create a user file and get past the tutorial walk around the stadium and out the exit, you can easily set up and go for a virtual walk for 5 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour, 5 hours – as long as you want! As far as I know, this is the only Wii fitness game that’s truly nonstop and endless; you continue walking even between songs, with no button-pushing or menu-pointing required to move on. A lot of players end up walking much longer than they intended when they started.I like to walk either on my DDR mat or Active Life mat (turn the DDR mat so one of the corners points to the TV, to avoid the bowlegged walk) with the remote in my right hand to point and nunchuck in my left to pan around the scene. The game has over a hundred songs in speeds ranging from a slow stroll to jogging speed, and you can arrange them in playlists or put them in order by speed. (It doesn’t let you add your own music.)Another thing about WIO is that it’s the only game my daughter and I both play regularly. She often goes for a short walk in the morning between breakfast and school. This is a great way for kids to get exercise on their own, without you having to drive them somewhere or supervise them outdoors.Walk It Out is an innova.
This game has come up in my retrolio recommendations since shortly its release last year. Due to the cover art, I’d dismissed it as purely a game for kids. You know, something hokey, not very challenging, and probably more annoyance than anything. WRONG!As I’ve found it increasingly difficult to get out of the house for exercise (heat wave, allergies, sun in my eyes, planets not in alignment, etc.) the pounds have piled on. So I went in search of a fun, low-impact ‘exergame’ to use with our Wii. The rave reviews and discussions in retrolio’s forums convinced me to give this one a try. Man, I wish I’d bought it back when retrolio first recommended it to me!The game is fun, and thanks to both the visual distractions (chips to collect and cash in on event capsules that populate your island with decor) and the rhythmic music (lots of bouncy songs), it’s incredibly easy to forget you’re exercising. Until the sweat starts dripping, that is, and even then the game pulls you forward in search of more capsules, more rainbow spheres, and more things to discover. It’s just a blast, and yet it gets your blood pumping! Before I even realized it, I’d walked for 45 minutes to reach 5,001 steps. (Possibly more. I was having problems with my nunchuck.)Now that I can exercise any time, day or night, without worrying about the weather forecast, the pollen count, irritating teenagers shouting rude things about my weight (assuming I work out when my kids are at school) or any of the other thousand excu.
I wanted to walk but five in the morning the beat the heat wasn’t going to cut it. When I found this rated well in other websites and saw it was created for the younger set as well I took the plunge. Many reviews say you can’t use the board but you can. The software tells you to not pick up your feet and it will warn you if you get to close to the edge but you can still do all those things, especially once you are off and walking. I go barefoot so I can feel the board under my feet as I have already slipped off once. My son is a hard sell on anything new and he is now walking while I type. It didn’t hurt when he found the wack a mole style game that’s for sure.I’m enjoying figuring it out and seeing new things. Challenges I’ve not yet mastered are going to keep me interested. I recommend it.
Yep it is true. I look forward to walking on the island. While this game was marketed to kids mostly and is cartoon-y looking, As an adult, I have come to love this game.I am now on my 4th tour of the island (basically I have completed the game 3 times and have started over again). When I started I was obese. I didn’t like exercise and was unmotivated.I have since lost all but about 20-30 lbs above my goal weight. Was WIO the only reason? No but it was helpful. Here’s why.I can create strategies on how I am going to get through the game.Everyday my goal is to complete the rainbow task which takes about 20-25 minutes. So I am focused on completing the task not exercising.I find myself having to get off to go to work or whatever but staying on to just finish one more item or section. Which is crazy to me b/c I have never been one to say "uhhh… just five more minutes of exercise please." WHAT? Crazeee talk!!There is also a great community of WIO fans on Facebook so it is fun to share our experiences. The WIO Facebook page offers support, hints on strategies for completing the game as well as maps etc and there are silly times when we talk about our made up stories about the characters in the game.I think this would also be a great game for kids and a parent b.c there is an option to play together. I imagine that just like reading with children leads to adults who enjoying reading that the same would be true for exercising.Anyway this would be a great gift for adults, kids.
I’ve had this almost two weeks now, and I really enjoy it. I wasn’t sure if it would be for me, but it was on sale for $19.99 so I took a chance and I’m happy I did. I recently purchased a Pure Fun 40″ rebounder and am enjoying Walk it Out even more now. I am so occupied keeping in beat and unlocking capsules, that I forget that I’m actually working out and getting a good cardio workout. I did 4 miles yesterday and I would find it hard to do that walking/jogging outside as I would get bored with it. Adding the rebounder has increased the intensity and fun of the workout and with some songs, I can bounce/dance to keep the beat and work different muscles. Very happy with purchase.
