Remember Gameday on the Playstation? Maybe you do or maybe you don’t, but this is when Sony did sports right. Then came 989 sports. Ouch. I never liked 989 Sports from day one. They took the series to the trash and their MLB series seemed to falter year after year. They messed up Gameday, screwed up the Twisted Metal Series, and they never seemed to get baseball right either, but they certainly made a great game with one major flaw, read below.***Attention Game Could Be Defective*** After about 2 weeks of playing, as with others have mentioned, I have to say I’ve ran into somewhat of a serious problem. The game OCCASIONALLY froze up on me during gameplay. At times “say during a season” I would click on the day so I can play the game for that day, and it says “all games must be simulated” and it froze a few times during that instance. So during the actual gameplay, you’re safe, but you might run into some issues during a Season game which is unacceptable. This would be forgiveable if I thought maybe it was a defective disc, or even my PS2 was having problems. But I tried it on two other systems, and also rented one to confirm. It’s glitch in the game as people are confirming. I have to say it’s not all the time. It seems to be toward the end of game or after extensive play. This can be annoying, especially if you are in a Season mode. I’ve read though some people are not having issues at all, so it may be only “some” of the games are defective. Be that as it may, keep in mind.
Yes, this game has some freezing issues, yes it’s annoying. However, the freezing issues can be cured by:1. Keep it on Fast Play 2. Disable all the tips 3. Use the Memory Card WHEN NEEDED.It worked during gameplays.Details:The gameplays have been improved to different way from last year. Such as pitching bar and fielding. Again, graphics are definetly improved and so are animations too. I love intangibles of this game
SummeryThis game in definitely improved from mlb 2005. I don’t own it yet but I’ve tested it and I am overall happy with it. I may wait until the price drops a bit especially now that the new roasters can be down-loaded. This is a NEW plus for purist that like to maintain the real roasters as they play with real stats, even though they lack Bonds and other important names. I’m not one of those purist…. I like to create my own players. This was a feature that was available in mlb 2005 but in 2006 you can add them in more that just Season Mode. In fact all modes can include created players except Home Run Derby mode, which is disappointing considering that in 2005, created players could slug it out with the “real” names. Overall not a big deal. The graphics are better. The commentators are a lot better. Game play is smooth. Batting is more realistic. Pitching is the single best game play improvement. The meter works very nicely. In 2005 walks and strike out were rare. Even with while using Randy Johnson you’ld very lucky to K more than 7 in a game. In MLB 2006 it’s a matter of skill. You can strike out many players with a mediocre pitcher if you mix-it-up right.ProblemsBesides having the seldom freezing problems, (just save a lot, and forget about trying to get your $ back) hopefully a glitch that will be fixed as more games are sold, there is still one BASEBALL FUNDAMENTAL that has been omitted again. Today’s all smart baseball game now offer tons of fun extras like being.
Okay folks the graphics on this game are really good, the soundtrack is also very good. The gameplay is very good. You would think I would recommend this game with the above statements but now for the bad news. Not only does this game have a tendacy to lock-up during play (usually around the 6th to 8th innings) but the game has a serious glitch where everyone will automatically throw to homeplate every time. I have bought 2 new controllers and problem still occurs. Bought a new PS2 problem still occurs. Made sure nothing was set on auto for the game and problem still occurs. The only good thing I got out of this game is it tricked me into buying a new ps2 and 2 new controllers. Other than that the game is ok. Just please take this to heart before buying th game. And if you rent this game first play it for 3 days, that is when the auto throw problem will start to show up.
I love the game. The service was great. Very satisfied.
I enjoy shopping at retrolio because they have a great selection on games, movies on everything! It is easy to deal with retrolio too. They are very helpful and kind and the prices are great!
MLB2006… it’s the best. There is no competition to this game. Don’t bother buying another series like MVP. Don’t bother buying another year like 2006: The Show or 2007: The Show. This is the best baseball game.
This game is very impressive. The fielding, pitching, baserunning and hitting are all so smooth. Turning the double play is a thing of beauty and pitchers actually matter. The graphics are even amazing, every player has his stance and facial look. The stadiums are also incredible. Don’t believe any bad reviews of this game, you must try it out if you care about a realistic game in any way. I have played MVP and 2k5 and MLB “06 destroys them in graphics, realism and fun. This has all the behind the scenes greatness of Madden “05 but for baseball. This is a must have for any old fashioned baseball purist.
Really, really impressed with this game. The graphics are sweet, and the attention to detail behind every batter, from Sammy’s pre-at-bat rituals, to Gary Sheffield’s waving of the bat is dead-on. The Stadiums look fantastic. The gameplay is incredibly realistic: for example, if you bust a fastball high-and-tight you can handcuff a hitter and shatter his bat. Plus the fielder’s aren’t perfect, just like in real baseball. I hit a line drive smash that caremed off the diving third baseman’s glove, to the shortstop, who knew to pick the ball up and try to make the out at first, only to throw the ball over the leaping firstbaseman’s head—VERY COOL. Career mode is really fun, slogging through the minors and trying to earn playing time. The game gives you room to interact with the manager, allowing you to ask for more playing time if you’re performing well, ask to get traded or called up to the next level, or even move up in the order if you’re swinging a hot bat. The commentary is some of the most intelligent to date, and the intricacies of the background sound are scary good. My only complaint is the crowds don’t suspend my disbelief, if you know what I mean. Other than this, this is one of the best baseball games that has ever come out. HIGHLY recommended…especially once you compare it to ESPN’s 2K5, which is a vastly inferior product when held to the light of this gem. BUY IT.
This game is extraordinary. I have not used previous versions of MLB so I’m not comparing it to a prior one. But the attention to detail and quality of gameplay in this is completely engaging.- The mannerisms of the players are dead on — the way they set up in the batter’s box, their stance, practice swings, etc. Very impressive, down to little details.- Pitching is very well done — detailed control of the pitch selection and relatively simple control to throw the pitch with proper release timing, etc.- Batting is mostly a simple timing game, but you can add pitch guessing et al- Running is handled well with a couple buttons.- The atmosphere is done in a very authentic way — the stadiums are well matched to the real thing, the street vendors, the PA systems in the background. Crowds are a bit more cartoonish, but hard to fault that.Overall I was completely blown away by the realism and how gripping it is. Plus the game play is a lot of fun.It is simple enough for my almost 7 year old to get the hang of.There’s a home run derby feature that my 5 year old uses and enjoys, but the full game is a little complex at that age.DOWNSIDES1. It has frozen up on me twice now in just a couple weeks. This is very frustrating.2. The announcers are great but somewhat repetitive. They needed more lines. Especially in the home run derby they keep saying the same thing — in the regular game there’s much more variety but some repeats.Overall, absolutely incredible and worth getting.
