NICE
I brought this for my daughter, who is doing her gcse’s in art, for our plane journey. She loved it, as did my mother, who is an artist. My daughter said it saved faffing about with pencil and paper when traveling, and gave her useful techniques when doing her homework abroad.
Delivery was fast and the game price was great. This is a very fun art game! Great for a beginner!
I have found this easy to follow and it is a good way to learn.
A good tutorial
Art Academy is a very unique game in that it allows the user to learn a skill. I think this is a great idea for the game console. I like Brain games and things like that but this one actually helps the user learn to draw and paint. The tips and art applications that are taught can actually be used in real life to utilize talents. This is a very different type of game. I really like the fact that it teaches beyond the game. There are 20 lessons varying in degree of difficulty and you learn to apply them by using the DS to draw, paint, shade, use color, etc. to make pictures with the stylus. You can do the lessons over again and you can save your art. You can’t print your art however, you can apply what you learn to an artist pad and make your own actual paintings using the techniques that are taught in each lesson. You can even improve your drawing skills with tips and techniques.I enjoyed the little artist that helps you create and learn various types of artwork. He uses the techniques and then lets you try each step and the interface is very easy to use. We have also created some neat things using the Free Draw option. My daughter actually made really cool things on the Free Draw before she started the lessons. It’s an easy program to understand and start using right away. It is amazing that you can use the DS or DSI to make such interesting works of art on the small screen using different sized brushes, different pencil leads, and you can mix the colors. These options make i.
I ordered this because I don’t find a lot of programs for the dsi that really interest me. I am a grandmother and don’t really enjoy most of the interactive games. I do however love my dsi for the Touchmaster games and a few others. I had not tried using it for drawing in the past.I am a mixed media artist and I was hoping to get a portable tiny sketchbook for recording ideas and thoughts about art quickly. This is a fairly useful tool for that. I like the colors and the way you can mix them easily. I found the brush choices okay, but the pencils are a little too limited. Right away I wanted a pen to make a darker line.Frankly I did not get very far into the lessons because they were presented much too slowly, with too many screens to go through before you actually get to how to draw the object. However, they could be quite useful for a motivated young person. I just dived right in to drawing and painting and figured out how to use the programs as I went along.I am not sure what age group would enjoy this, I think it would depend on the person.
If you are a person like me who used to doodle along the margins of your paper in school then this game might be for you. But if you’ve got amateur skills this game may bore your quickly. I recommend that this game be for some who doodles when bored or likes the draw things at random moments. The Free-Draw mode will definitely save you money on paper, pencil, coloring pencils, paint, marker, your general art supplies you’d need if you were going to doodle or paint in reality. The art lessons are pretty meager and don’t give you much but the mini-lessons do offer challenges as Vince doesn’t guide you through them much. Your on your own to sketch/paint out the mini-lesson images. One thing I do agree with is the fact that there’s no other way to upload or save your art for sharing other than on your DS itself. Would of been nice if there was a website where you can connect using WiFi or something to upload your art to an email or straight to a photobucket account. DS Lite owners will find that this game is pretty limited where as the DSi owners are able to snap pictures of anything and try to sketch it out in the Art Academy *Making me wanna upgrade to a DSi*. Overall this game is great if you like to doodle alot. Or a Beginner who wants to learn a few basic lessons in Art.
It was a present for my grandaughter and she has found it very good. many hours of fun have been had
I was so impressed by this game! Sometimes writing with the stylus of the DS or DSI is tricky…lines don’t appear exactly where you want them to. I thought this might be the case with Art Academy, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and precision of this game. It’s a fresh, fun, new idea. A little Art class at your fingertips! Step by step animated instructions from a cute cartoon Vincent Van Gogh really allow you to see exactly what is being done in each lesson. The lessons begin with the simple pencil drawing of an apple. The game then progresses with each skill allowing you to move forward with amazing results. So far, I’ve gone through the lessons for different pencils and paints, brush sizes, etc. Along the way, there is always the ability to erase parts or all of your project if you don’t like how it is coming out. I did this several times! But with each attempt, you can actually see yourself making progress, learning what works and what doesn’t by comparing your picture to Vincent’s. This is not a game for really young kids, but I think kids about 10 years of age and older would greatly enjoy it. It’s not childish, though, so it’s a lot of fun for adults as well. I’d give this a try, if you like being creative and have always wanted to be able to draw better. It would make a great gift for artsy types.
