Well this is my first WII game that is point and shoot and let me tell you that it is tremendous fun. I had friends over and we all enjoyed this game to the fullest. I completely endorse this game for light weight fun. I believe along with Super Mario Galaxy and other key games for WII, this one belongs in that list.Pros: Fun, Easy to play, Point and shoot works greatCons: Low resolution, too short.Hope this review helps few of you trying to purchase this game.
Great fun! I was so pleased to see that this game was made well! I’ll be playing it for a while to come.If you like this, then also check out House of the Dead 2/3 also on Nintendo Wii. Great fun!5 stars, my highest recommendation!
This was a game I had originally passed on when I saw it available in stores. I was familiar with the other games in the franchise(House of the Dead 1&2)and was never that impressed with the graphics or gameplay in either of those titles. I decided to take a chance on this one after reading a couple of good reviews and was pleasantly surprised. The in-game graphics are great, the campy grindhouse style story was very original and the 70’s style music is actually pretty good. The game is more enjoyable after you unlock directors cut because you are given an opportunity to replay the story with more zombies and the levels are now more immersive(In regular mode you would explore a handful of rooms before a boss batttle but, in directors cut you are given a chance to explore every square inch of a level making it a brand new experience). Also, once you beat directors cut you unlock “Dual-wield” mode which allows you to use two zappers simultaneously so you can play John Woo style. One of the complaints that I heard about the game was that the frame-rate gets sluggish when there are too many characters on-screen but, honestly I never even noticed it.I only have a few complaints. The boss battles tend to be pretty weak compared to the rest of the game and the profanity is a little excessive(I have no issues with profanity but, when you are swearing just because you can,it gets a little annoying). That being said, I would definitely buy any sequels to this game
The Nintendo Wii’s gaming inventory is rather sparse when it comes to edgy, foul mouthed, shooters built to appease a mature audience. Curiously enough, SEGA has filled that void in an unprecedented way with a surprising entry titled ‘The House of the Dead: Overkill".Resembling a classic shooter from the days of rampant arcade gaming, Overkill is an on-rails shooter that leads the gamer through various environments filled with hordes of blood thirsty zombies and demonic boss battles. Because of the nature of an on-rails game, the premise is simple: using the Wii controller, the gamer aims and shoots oncoming predators while the camera pans about in a predetermined manner.Because the Wii is anything but performance savvy, there are times when the frame rate becomes rather choppy; however, the game is stable for the most part and, oddly, video anomalies only seem apropos for a title that thrives on the nostalgic grindhouse panache.Of course, we couldn’t simply call Overkill a take on the grindhouse theme without a cheesy script, some third-rate acting, and an over-the-top storyline. Fear not – Overkill features all of the above! From the game’s opening sequence to its deranged conclusion, SEGA leaves no opportunity overlooked in its quest to create a cringe-inducing blood bath, reminiscent of the film genre it imitates. The quips are blatantly profane, the plot is about as rediculous as it can get, and there is no shortage of gory moments and animated pornography, to boot. I.
We like the game.It can get a little choppy and or delayed with all that is going on (poor little Wii processor) when playing 2 player w/ max zombies. Also difficult to configure the wiimote to aim correctly and the aiming doesn’t quite stay accurate when moving the wiimote to the edges of the screen. We use the Nyko gun attachment.Cut scenes are very lewd and can be funny, but get old quickly. Comments during gameplay are fun though.
I’ve been a fan of the house of the dead games since the first one. I remember playing both 1 and 2 in the arcade and 3 on the Xbox. I have to say this is the best game in the series. It abandons the serious storyline of the previous game in favor of a stupid, juvenile, but fun and hillarious setting. Even though this is on the Wii, this is not in anyway a game for kids. In fact it’s gone into several areas that not even Grand Theft Auto has yet. There’s more foul langauge then a public school playground, one of the themes is incest, there’s a song about necrophilia, there’s massive quanities of toilet humor(including a scene where we see a guy taking a wizz, u don’t see his privates but it was still pretty gross) and oh did I mention how violent it is too? Heads and limbs are blown off, bodies explode into bloody chunks, and players are rewarded for how fast they can kill thier enemies. Needless to say it truely pushes the limits of it’s M-rating. Parents if your uncomfortable with your kid watching shows like South Park or Drawn Together then keep them FAR away from this because this game revels in it’s explicit content. Despite it pushing the limits of good taste at times, it’s still pretty fun to play. The game is a little easy at first since you can merely restart by paying a certain number of points but after you beat the main story you can do the “Director’s Cut” mode which has more enemies and limited continues. All in all this is probably one of the funnest games on.
Excellent shop and a very good product
Wii games are meant to be FUN, not complicated. And FUN is exactly what you get with this title.A masterpiece of the zombie shooter genre. It feels just like jumping into a scene from Zombieland (the movie), pumping round after round among the living dead and the malformed mutants. Sometimes you get to save some civilians from this creatures… sometimes you don’t.Some other things that deserve to be highlighted are:* Great original soundtrack* Entertaining storyline* Vintage movie artwork* Characters are funny* Funny dialogs too* Automatic camera movements provide by far the the best Wii experience in a shooter* Good weapon selection and upgradesIf you are an adult like me, who works all day and has no time for elaborated game plots, storylines, complicated controls, time wasting puzzles and instead of that you want to jump straight into the action, buy this title, no regrets at all!Using the wii zapper or something similar is very recommended, and improves gameplay a lot, but it’s ok if you don’t have it, it’s not that necessary.
HOTD: Overkill is one of the best on-the-rails shooter for the Wii I’ve played for far. In comparison to HOTD 2 & 3, this is easier (not arcade-level difficulty), but it’s still challenging enough, and multiplayer is really a blast. Shooting up zombies doesn’t get much better than this. :) My little brother and I played this one over the holidays together with two Nyco Perfect Shot Gun attachments, and it was great. With the PSG, the experience is very reminiscent of my NES/Duck Hunt days…but with the addition of a zombie apocalypse, hilariously over-the-top dialogue, and several thousand f-bombs. Tons of fun!
This is a great shoot-em up arcade game. Not so fun with the Wii remote as it is with the
