I don’t know why game review sites gave this game low scores. Sure, there’s a few bugs here and there. Though I never played the classic games (which I’ve unlocked in this version), I found myself entertained just destroying everything. Great soundtrack and decent replay value. Best of all, this was cheap for only $25. Give this game a go if you’re into endless creature bashing, topped off with ridiculous amounts gore.

I read some reviews and was almost put off by the misguided insinuations. I’m glad I went against what they said because they were sadly mistaken! This game is very fun, unique, yet keeps an old school flare. I think it is very innovative and is an awesome game for adults. I had no issues with camera angles, controls or anything. I read someone else mention the load times were long….Really?! They said it was because the game isn’t downloaded onto the hard drive. Well the load time is less than 30 seconds and is much shorter than many other games I’ve played. It seems like people are picking at straws trying to find something wrong with the game. Since they couldn’t find anything they are making stuff up. During the load screen they have animations doing things as opposed to most games that have standard background pictures. Many might think my response is fanboyish, however this is the first time I’ve ever played this series so I have no prior bias to it. My opinion is that people have become way to spoiled and can never be happy with anything. Seriously…for under $30 you will not be disappointed! It will be a welcome break from playing FPS’s for months on end.
I’ll admit that when I was younger I didn’t play the Splatterhouse games endlessly nor think they were the greatest thing since sliced bread like some people seem to fondly remember the series, however I did play the games and I did enjoy them. Nostalgia was the primary factor that piqued my interest in the reboot and I was really curious to see how the game would turn out as a whole and how it would successfully balance satisfying new gamers and older gamers alike. Well, both fortunately and unfortunately it seems like they didn’t care about creating an experience for new gamers to delve into and were more interested in creating an all out nod to games of the past. I haven’t played a game that is this unabashed in creating an all out brawler with no other purpose except to pound the ever loving crud out of endless waves of baddies with the occasional weapon thrown in to “break up” the repetition, but it works as a mindless adventure of all out destruction. There are a number of upgrades that you can acquire but it’s mostly there to mask the fact that you can escape with the patented approach of button mashing until the enemy has become nothing more than pulp. It’s a game that’s pretty easy to pick up and play for a little while and turn it off as the automated save points in the levels are frequent enough that you won’t have to be concerned about your progress being erased (and helps to stave off disinterest). It’s a nice throwback to the days of old school gaming and there.

This game is exceedingly gross, which the producers know . . . they said that on one of their interviews I read off of gamespot, but . . . it is addictive! In the absence of a review from any of the major critic websites–due in part to, I guess the Thanksgiving holiday and people actually taking a break from their jobs to enjoy themselves and relax, everyone needs to–I thought I’d put up a quick review to get things going. This review is based on a 30% completion rate, so I still have more to go, but after probably close to 10 hours, I think I’m safe as to sharing an opinion as to what it’s all about.Yes, it’s worth full price. Definitely. I was very skeptical at first, I though it would be like Golden Axe, playing off of a strong name, but being one of the worst ever games to play. Not at all! They took the title and improved upon it. If you were around to play the original games from Genesis and the arcade version, never saw that one in an arcade myself, but I remember seeing the Genesis version and wanting to buy it, but I had my Nintendo, this game is all of that gory fun x10. Be ready to see blood splatter. The game is fun in that it knows it’s gross, and at one point, **one line spoiler alert** the actor for the mask even says, “That right there is why we got a f#$@in’ “M” rating.” Funniest line so far breaking the 4th wall. There is no repetition in this game. There are a variety of evil demons to kill, and then there are similar ones, but they have different c.
SplatterhouseGrowing up in the 90’s it was a word of reverence. The arcade game only being talked about in hushed whispers and talk of the Turbo port being unsure at best. Leaving me with just my Sega. The second installment was fair, the third was a bit less to my liking, but it was the unfortunate reality of finally playing the first iteration that left me at a loss. I had built up this ideal of what the first game should have been from what I’d heard and when I finally played it it was a let-down. Intense gore didn’t make up for the slow cumbersome plodding of the main character. And thus ended my love affair with Splatterhouse.I don’t own any video game systems. But my wife does, and when I found out that Splatterhouse was being remade I thought on it awhile before deciding to pick it up. Despite my disappointment with the series there was an ideal there that I still believed in. That intense violence, Gothic gore, and smooth fun game play could be combined under this banner. That’s where my adventure started. And unlike the other installments, this one rarely disappointed.Pros:-Interesting Storyline (That alone made me want to keep playing)-Various Attacks (Although the enemies were repetitive, there were plenty of ways to kill them)-Awesome Bosses (Some with very unique designs)-Music (I honestly don’t like death metal normally but it really got me into the killing mode)-Graphics (Good overall)-Killing (The combination of the attacks, music, and easy difficulty.
I don’t usually play modern beat ’em up’s. I never tried any God of War game at all, as the theme just doesn’t appeal to me. However, I always liked the original Splatterhouse on Turbographix 16, and this game was on my wish list for a while. It is a wonderful specimen of modernization while retaining all the details from the original. A lot of the reviews said that the game had broken controls, buggy, etc. Well that’s just not true. Technically it plays smoothly and enjoyably with no bugs at all. It is challenging from a gaming perspective, but so was the original, and I’m glad that this new one isn’t a total cakewalk. You have to actually know what Rick’s moves are, and use them for certain enemies, rather than just button mashing. You can get a good little beat ’em up trance going when you’re in the zone. The 2d parts are great; just what fans of the original would want. At first I thought the graphics looked odd and couldn’t put my finger on it until I realized that they were using the same weird palette of colors that the original had. Quite unsettling for some reason. The story elements are simple, fast paced, unobtrusive, and fun, as they should be. I read that this game lost all support from Namco shortly before release due to company leadership shake ups, thus a sequel is unlikely. That said, I am super happy to have gotten this game at all, and will probably play through again–something else I don’t do too often in modern games. I like that it’s short.
Excellent game, a few minor quirks and a bit hard at times. Also contains splatterhouse 1 2 and 3. Also there is downloadable content, the wite room is great as well as its fun to have all the other masks, there are 4 available for purchase at the PSN store.
This happens to be my new favorite game. The game is definitly not for children or those with weak stomachs or constitutions. This game is tons of fun and is addicting.
