Serious Sam: Next Encounter
Serious Sam: Next Encounter is a 2004 first-person shooter game developed by Climax Solent and published by Global Star Software. As a spin-off in the Serious Sam series, it follows Sam “Serious” Stone, who tracks an unidentified enemy through ancient Rome, feudal China and Atlantis, and eliminates the forces the enemy controls to eventually uncover their identity.
However, the player controls Sam through enclosed levels, fighting waves of enemies with an assortment of weapons and, occasionally, vehicles. And defeating enemies is a prerequisite to advance in a level and killing twenty in rapid succession temporarily grants a strength, speed and score boost in a “Super Combo”. Two players can complete the campaign cooperatively and up to eight players can engage in versus modes.
Gameplay
Serious Sam: Next Encounter is a first-person shooter. The player, controlling Sam “Serious” Stone, traverses enclose levels frequently composed of narrow corridors and open areas. So, there are forty-two levels, distributed among three thematic worlds. And in each level, the player encounters various enemies, of which some use melee and others fire projectiles at Sam. However, foes are teleported into a room and can approach from any side. But the player often needs to clear a room of one or more waves of enemies before proceeding to the next room. In other instances, multiple objects need to be collected and inserted into pre-determined slots to unlock the way forward. Also the game features some platforming elements and secrets hidden within levels.
Weapons
Moreover, next Encounter contains various weapons, among them ten range weapons and a chainsaw for melee. By default, Sam brandishes two handguns that have limitless ammunition. Some guns have several types of ammunition that can be switch between. By holding down the down the button to fire a weapon causes guns to discharge continuously. With an optional setting, enemies are automatically target. Every few levels, the player can use a vehicle—a jeep, submarine, or combine harvester—and kill enemies by running them over or using the vehicle’s attach weaponry.
However, killing enemies and collecting hidden treasures increases the score. Base on the final score in a level, the player is award a medal, where collecting certain amounts of gold medals unlocks additional “lost levels”. And killing twenty enemies in quick succession activates a “Super Combo”, which increases Sam’s movement speed and his weapons’ rate of fire and damage against villains. And doubles the score obtain for every further enemy. So, this state lasts approximately ten seconds. When Sam’s health is deplete, gameplay pauses, the character is reset to most recently pass checkpoint, and the player receives a score penalty. But a four-step difficulty setting adjusts how easily either Sam or the enemies defeat.
So, two players can complete the campaign cooperatively in a local split-screen mode. And there are three versus modes: “Deathmatch”, “Pass the Bomb”, and “Hold the Flag”. Up to four local players can compete via split-screen on the GameCube.

Something just feels so right with this game as you climb your combo multiplier up and Sam obnoxiously yells "YEEEEHAAAW".
Very clean
Excellent game thanks shop
This game is just one of those all time classic shooters your library should not be with out. The graphics are simple and the action is second to none.If you ever have a bad day or just want to blow stuff up. You must get Serious Sam Next Encounter.
Apparently the others here who’ve chosen to review this game have it out for this particular title, nor does it seem that they’ve played it much. No, Serious Sam: Second Encounter IS NOT a modern FPS; it’s not going to compare well on a technical level to the Halo’s, Half-Life 2’s or the Battlefield’s of the world, because it’s a throwback to a simpler time. The engine is starting to show its age, enemy AI comes at you using the “brute force method” (endless wave after endless wave) and not everyone will like the art style, but if you take it for what it is, a white-knuckle, balls-to-the-wall FPS, where you’re rewarded for blasting everything in sight (in a time when being stealthy is all the rage), you’ll enjoy this game. To put it in a way some gamers will understand, there are moments in Serious Sam when it feels like I’m playing the classic Robotron from a first-person POV. There are enemies coming from all directions, suicide bombers, raging beasts, long-range machinegunners, etc., and here I am, one little character, having to destroy them all. If Serious Sam had a bird’s-eye camera, it would look like Robotron in many instances, and that’s a good thing. If you still get a kick out of classic FPS games like DOOM and Duke Nukem 3D, the Serious Sam takes that style of gameplay to a whole new level.
I payed $4.99 for this game at a local EB games and it was $4.99 well spent. I got more than I thought I would. If you want a “serious” FPS that’s kinda like the old DOOM except sped up 10x get this game! It has a very good multiplayer mode as well with a few maps like “the towers of decay” that will send you spinning wondering what’s up and what’s down and just which one of your friends is shooting you. 5 stars highly recomended!
I have always loved this game and it is very hard to come by. I bought it off here and play or every day almost. It’s just super fun and hilarious. Me and my friends play the multiplayer as well and always have a great time.
Not as good as the first, but still great.
Well, i have owned and beat this game and i gotta say that i really liked it. Beating all the levels on a different difficulty is enought to keep me going. I still havn’t gotten all the gold medals for the extra levels. People say they beat and then they never played it again. Well, yeah! It’s because they never played the extra levels or got gold medals. I have been playing it just recently. If you want to get this game then i strongly recommend it. It’s a fantastic FPS game. IT has madness, non stop action, and just because it’s repetitive doesn’t mean that it isn’t fun! It’s only 19.99. So go buy it. you won’t be dissappointed.PRESENTATION: 8.0: It takes you back to the good ol days of the serious sam world in places such as rome, feudal china, and even…..ATLANTIS!!!GAMEPLAY: 9.0: Once you pick up the controller you cant put it down! Adrenaline just keeps on coming while playing through more than 31 levels.GRAPHICS: 7.0: This game has a lot of polygon shapes, but the environments are truly beautifully down. IT has polygon shapes so the game can run smoothly with all the enemies that come at you at one time.SOUND: Techno sounds give this game an awesome fell of kicking butt. As soon as you here the kamakazis you’ll be searching everywhere to make sure they don’t blow up on you before it’s too late.LASTING APPEAL: you’ll take this one out again for laughs and even to see if you can beat your scores. Worth getting.
