Sega Soccer Slam
Sega Soccer Slam, also known as simply Soccer Slam, is a sports game released for GameCube, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 in 2002.
Gameplay
Sega Soccer Slam is different from traditional sports games in its exaggerated interpretation of soccer. It allows characters to punch one another and eliminates several other rules. Such as throw-ins, corner kicks, free kicks, and penalties. Sega Soccer Slam includes an exhibition mode, a challenge mode, a practice mode, a tourney mode, and a quest mode. It also includes two minigames: Hot Potato and Brawl.
Practice Mode
Practice mode is a step-by-step instruction of how to play the game, teaching the player maneuvers including steals, passes, shots, dekes, volleys. As well as more complicated moves such as spotlight shot and the killer kick (an incredibly powerful shot that can be accessed when the charge bottom at the bottom of the screen reaches its maximum through doing basic moves). The practice mode is essential for both masters and newcomers to prepare for the exhibition, tourney, challenge and quest parts of the game.
Exhibition Mode
The exhibition mode is similar to that of most other sport games. In it, players are allowed to choose their opponent and team as well as a stadium to play in. They can also play two mini-games with up to four players: Brawl, which is where four of the characters fight against each other. And Hot Potato, a game where passing scores points, but when the ball explodes, anyone in the blast will lose points.
Tourney Mode
Tourney mode is where the player can play in a tournament that lasts for 5 days of each team playing each other at least once through the competition.
Challenge Mode
Challenge mode is when the player creates a custom team and compete in a series of matches to unlock nine secret characters. But each character can only unlock two secret characters.
Quest Mode
Other than the gameplay options said above, Sega Soccer Slam also has a quest mode. In quest mode the player chooses one of the starting six teams and then competes in a series of ten games. Through winning these games the player can accumulate money which can be used to buy character art and power-up items. The character wears each item in order to enhance his or her attributes.

He’s driving up the sidelines, quickly traps the ball in his feet and jumps over the defender, sends the ball like a bullet over to his teammate, the player heads into a stadium spotlight, OH MY GOD is this guy casting for "The Matrix"? Anyway he’s doing flips in the air, he rears back to shoot, AND HE’S SUCKER-PUNCHED WHILE IN THE AIR! He goes down hard, with the other team in control of the ball, and goes on fire! He charges up the field and tackles some skinny guy that has sparks of electricity coming out his ears. A wrestler from Mexico gets control and shoots from midfield…HE SCORES!End Score: 16 El Fuego, 14 Electra.A normal "Sega Soccer Slam" match. If you didn’t get a clue from what you just read, this game is out of whack. In a good way. With six three-man one woman teams. Actually you can’t tell what the frigg the goalies are because they have heavy body armor on. As I said before, this is one messed (but cool) game. It provides with more fun then some bestselling games that I will not speak of or everyone on earth will be out to get me. This game is almost like NHL HITZ 20-02 because of the three player action. (The goalies can’t be controlled, but they’re good enough.) And to clear things up the guy that went on fire was really a skinny girl with strange hair. And fire is El Fuego’s natural power. Electra uses bolts of electicity. A team which its name escapes me has poison. Overall, this game is new and exciting.And1homerun’s Rating: A+Anyone.
It’s a Christmas present for my son. I know he will enjoy it
Many have wanted to compare this to Fifa 2002. I will give the true comparison that all you soccer game fans want to here. First in graphics Fifa wins. That is my opinion all though it is fairly arguable. Fifa has detailed player animations and realistic fields (the grass in my opinion is jaw dropping). Yet in soccer slam you will see bright cartoonish graphics. No, this is not aa bad thing it actually brings a nice fun tone to the game. Sound goes to Soccer slam in my opinion. Why the announcer is a weird cowboy guy who makes you laugh with his wild antics. The music is lacking but the players make up with it with their insults that leave you laughing to the point where it hurts. Fifa’s sound is also great. The thing i disliked was the monotonous announcers. The thing that was good was the in-game souns and soundtrack featuring songs by the guerriliz. In fun soccer slam wins. The players are original and cool. From a scottish boxer to an african medicine man. There are three players and a goalie per team. There are cool kicks and exiting passes. Yes, you can hit your opponent without being charged with a foul. Fifa too is fun but lacks character originality and a fast paced game. The final category is replay value. I believe Fifa has more replay value. In soccer slam once you have beaten the continental cup you feel like you are done. Soccer slam features 6 teams and 9 feilds. Fifa has countless teams, challenges, and goals. Which leaves you coming back for more. A few last.
This is the BEST game I have ever played in my life.(and I have played TONS.) This game deserves about 18 stars. Soccer Slam is basicly what happened when Sega realized soccer is a phisical sport. The main mode is quest mode which has much more deatails than you would expect. It comes complete with an all-star game, playoffs and money prizes after each game to buy special equipment. (Half Pint’s spiked earings!) The stadiums have incredible detail.(I( saw a guy lose his hotdog!)The two player mode is great and the different teams keep things new. O.K. now for the bad stuff. ……… Well that’s about it there is no bad things about this game! This is a must buy.

I typically shy away from “extreme” sports games because, well, they often replace the depth and subtlety of the sporting contests with over the top violence and wacky power-ups. Soccer Slam doesn’t break this trend, but it doesn’t completely divorce itself from being a really fine soccer game. In terms of “extremeness” it falls somewhere between NFL Blitz and NBA Street – and I enjoy Soccer Slam more than either of those titles.Soccer Slam is played on a tiny field with 4 players per side – 3 character players and a generic goalie. The small field constantly pumps Soccer Slams with the electric feel that you get from watching soccer highlights – when the ball is perilously close to the goal and it is going to take a miracle to prevent a goal. While the size of the field and pacing that allow for these “highlights” to happen almost every 30 seconds has the potential for growing stale, it takes a while to tire of players doing huge acrobatic kicks and goalies leaping at the last moment to save the ball. The action is very fast, high energy, and keeps the player involved the entire time. The main play mode, called “Quest”, follows the season for one of the six teams from the opening matches, to the All Star game, and if they play well enough, to the championship. Quest mode is clearly inspired by Virtua Tennis’s World Mode – complete with a map of the globe and mini-games between the matches. You can buy power-ups (often wacky clothing for already over-the-top characters) with.
soccor a fun game but now sega has a taken it up a notch its like what SSX did for snowboarding it was fun but they put a new twist on it thats exactly what you’ve got with sega soccor slam kick a$$ game play and awsome characters and teams.
Many people told me Fifa 2002 was the best soccer game available for the cube. I decided to try it out, eventhough i hated sports. The game was the same thing as all the other soccer games, boring, plain characters, simple stadiums, and plain teams from around the world. Then i heard of Soccer Slam, a game which you could kick, punch, or tackle your opponents. It sounded like a blast! I told my friends about it and they laughed and told me to grow up, that no soccer game could pass Fifa 2002.When it came out, i bought it. I started playing it and i was right, it was a blast. The teams were unique and had powers. The stadiums were amazing and unique too. The game was just perfect!I decided to call my friends over, so they could see how mistaken they were about it. They came in and saw it. The only word which my friends said was WOW. Sometimes i like to give my friends some of their own medicine, so i did. I didn’t let them play and told them: “As you can see, you should grow up, because Soccer Slam kicks Fifa’s [buttox]”. They were beging me to let them play, but i said, “Why should i? didn’t you told me i should grow up? And look at you, you are all crying and beging me to let you play a soccer game that is “not” better than Fifa”. They didn’t say a word and left. Now all of you know the true best game available for the cube: SOCCER SLAM!If my story wasn’t enough, here are the facts about it:- Choose from 6 diffrent teams: El Fuego, Volta, Tsunami, Spirit, Toxic, and Subzero..
I loved this game as a kid and I love it just as much now. It’s a must have for all. Very kid friendly yet loads of fun not a soccer fan but this game brings me into the game.
Soccer Slam is one of the most well polished games I have ever had the pleasure of playing. The Matrix-stylied shots are some of the best I have ever seen! But one downfall is the belly button physics are horrible. El Fuego’s is sticking out like a sore thumb…literally. Half-Pint’s belly button definetly isn’t half pint. But the graphics are definetly above average. The character animations are literally un”friggin”believable. But it’s just plain kiddy.
