In Okami, the player takes the role of the mythical sun goddess Amaterasu, in the form of a wolf. Her task is to restore color to the world by destroying the monsters who have stolen it. Since Amaterasu is a deity, there are naturally people who worship her and people who don’t. The more people who worship her (as a result of her restoring color and doing other good deeds for them), the more powerful she becomes. It is crucial to help Amaterasu make the world a place where all living creatures can dwell once again. PRODUCT DETAILS

Okami first caught my attention with the graphics. The art in this game is awe-striking (and isn’t just reserved for the cutscenes – it lasts throughout the game). Amaterasu, the wolf that you play as, wields the celestial brush to alter the world. The interface of trying to paint with a joystick takes some getting used to but once you adjust it seems both smooth and creative. The story made it hard to pull myself away from this game and each time I started to rejoice that I had nearly completed the game the plot thickened and a new thread was introduced. Most of the characters and stories are based on Japanese folklore and tell a fascinating tale. The gaming experience is great. One of the few adventure games that lives up to Zelda (and in some ways surpasses it). There are tons of sidequests to keep even the best gamer busy for a long time, even after the main storyline has run its course. The challenges are set on a good curve – easy and explanatory at the beginning and move toward puzzles that take more thinking or ingenuity to solve. My only annoyance with the game was the battles. They seemed to be easily avoidable and not especially challenging. Occassionally you would run into a stronger character that was really complicated to fight and it was frustrating because I sometimes felt unprepared.I still very highly recommend this game. I was enamored with it at the very beginning and still consider it an amazing game. definitely a worthwhile purchase.
Okami is a unique game that has beautiful graphics with a blend of different japanese mythology tales.it’s addictive, and not a game that you’ll finish over night. You can choose to follow the story, but theres hours worth of side things to do also! Now if only icould find those 99 hidden beads…
Arrived in great condition, and plays very well.
I’m an artsy person, and therefore the beautiful style of this game scores it major points with me. It’s a truly gorgeous atmosphere and story with delightful play. It’s easy, the hardest part is to get the brushstrokes down. If you’re looking for a -challenge- this is NOT THE GAME YOU WANT! But for me, i play games for fun and to unwind, relax, and for a mood boost, not neccessarily for the challenge. This game is a great relaxer and stress reliever for me, and i love the long, drawn out story line that lets you play and play without having to start from the beginning too often. Now i’ve made it sound boring so let me redeem that. It’s a complex, delightful story and though the puzzles by themselves are fairly easy, they’re parts of bigger puzzles that generally take more time and thought to accomplish. This sort of challenge is constant through the game and i love the consistancy. There is strategy to it, and i especially love the challenge of finding all those Stray Beads. The plot in and of itself is a bit underwhelming at times, but it doesn’t lack details! But honestly, this game is great just because of the fantastic world it’s set in, and it’s stuck with me for years. When i finally regained a PS2, this was the first game i sought out.
Best game I have ever played with wonderful story and great content. Beautiful in all aspects. Violence very minimal and recommended to anyone who isn’t into violence and into story.
This is going to be simple and not detailed at all.I randomly came across Okami and I said why not. To my surprise I ended up enjoying it. It’s a beautiful game (in my opinion). The controls are simple to get use to and the game flows well. It has quite a bit to do in the sense of collecting items, feeding animals, hunting bad creatures and growing plants. If you like adventures, a neat story mixed with a animals, Japanese mythology mixed with humour and a bit of celestial brush action this is a game for you. The only complaint that I have is how the game ends. If you do play it you will understand what I mean. Anyhow I say give it a shot I found myself enjoying it.
But I am more than willing to hand down 5+ stars to Okami (as many reviewers have before me).Where to begin? Without sounding repetitive and touching on too many of the popular points, Okami is simply a piece of art. The entire concept, especially your celestial brush drawing ability, is ingenious, and the graphics are soothing and incredibly beautiful. I really can’t say enough about how much I love the colors, scenery, and design.I do have to point out, however, that Okami is generally a straight-forward walk in the park. In my first 30 hours of gameplay, I really was only “stuck” twice. More often than not, Issun, your Poncle guide, will indicate in highlighted red letters what you probably should be doing; otherwise, the camera will zoom in and out in a brief cutscene, indicating exactly what needs to be done in a given puzzle room. However, I can’t really say that this is a downfall. Okami is actually so -fun- that it doesn’t need to be difficult: the player will enjoy themselves enough with the graphics, design, characters, sidequests, and battle sequences. You won’t need to be challenged to love this game. That said, though, if you’re shopping around for an artsier Ninja Gaiden, this isn’t the game for you.I have only two complaints for this game. First, the camera seems to get stuck every once in awhile in this version of the game (I can’t speak for the Wii). By “stuck,” I mean it zooms in close enough to be an FPS and then can’t zoom out–or I’ll get stuck in a corner.
Product arrived waaay eariler than the shipping time estimated so that was awesome. No issues with product.
this is one of the best ps2 games i have ever played i beat is like 5 times but cant stop playing it
Other games are more substantive, contribute more to the world in terms of heart and soul, but for sheer gaming goodness, nothing I’ve seen comes close. It is one of the saddest stories in gaming history how The Wii made everyone think of hand-painting with the Wiimote after Okami came out for the PS2 because that control scheme really doesn’t improve The Celestial Brush, and actually makes it _harder_ to be precise. I really can’t stand the religious stuff everywhere in this game, and it borders on homophobia here and there, but I’m not going to deny myself the enjoyment to be had in the beauty of its presentation, music, animation, creativity… A proper review of this game would be a book chapter, so here on retrolio, I’ll have to suffice to say that so far, as of August 2014, my favorite Zelda game is Okami. Truth be told, it is, in fact, by far, my favorite game of all time, though I do hope something better comes along because there are definitely those major aspects I mentioned which I dislike.
