Not the best story, controls and there is no actual metal gear in the game. What it does have is an owl that tricks a guard to fall asleep even though it is in the day light, ugly sprites and confusing puzzles. Just what every class nes game needs.
old school fun.

A must have in your nes collection!
Excellent
revolutionary 8 bit predecessor of so much of today’s gaming conventions…..fantastic piece of vg history!Read books on video game history, it’s actually quite fascinating.5 stars.
Kojima is not happy with this port, but I, and the rest of North America (judging by sales figures), sure am! This game improves on some of the shortfalls of the original MSX version, for instance now you can press up on the wall and sneak by cameras which you couldn’t do in the original. But make no mistake, this game is full of problems, fortunately they don’t really detract from the game. For instance, in this NES port sometimes when you enter a room, be it from another room (screen) or sub-room (vehicle that you can enter on a screen), a guard will often be looking at that spot, in the MSX version much time was spent making sure that that did not happen, and that is what series creator Hideo Kojima was talking about when he said the stealth element was gone, if a guard automatically spots you how can you sneak past him? The biggest gripe people have with this game is that the boss fight with the Metal Gear is gone, but this didn’t bother me one bit, it was not a very good boss fight, you simple put bombs on the feet of the Metal Gear in a certain order, the Metal Gear didn’t even move (just sat there and shot lasers straight across the screen), so you aren’t missing much in regards to this boss fight being toned down, in the NES version you do see a Metal Gear (albeit not in use) and you blow up a computer containing the technical specs needed to complete the Metal Gear. Rest easy because the best boss fight in the game is left untouched, the boss fight with Big Boss him.
