Admittedly, it took me a bit to get into Goalie Interference. Purely based on first impressions, I wasn’t crazy about Emmitt, and following their initial interactions, I was a little unconvinced about Ryu and Emmitt as a couple. However, as with this writing duo’s past works, the relationship, characters, and writing won me over and hooked my attention as things began developing between Ryu and Emmitt. As a hockey fan, I tend to be fairly critical of hockey romances, but this duo knows their stuff. The details of hockey travel, practice, and on ice gameplay are all on point without diminishing the burgeoning relationship between Ryu and Emmitt, delivering a well-balanced sports romance. I really liked the competitive/ enemies-to-lover dynamic cultivated throughout the start of the book. Not only did it lead to some intensely sexy moments, but it flushed out the characters’ personalities quickly and developed their chemistry. Ultimately, I enjoyed Emmitt and Ryu as a couple and liked the slow slide of their relationship from a physical to emotional fueled connection. I especially liked the ending because it captured both the team dynamic as well as the close bond the Ryu and Emmitt shared. Goalie Interference is a definite recommendation for me, especially for hockey fans.*eARC received via Netgalley. The author and publisher had no influence over this review*
This is the second book in the series and this writing duo did a great job. The kept me engrossed with the game of hockey and them themselves. There were laughs and drama but just the right amount to keep me hooked.I had to grab this book right now becaue it is hockey season. Who doesn’t love a good hockey romance? This is a great enemy to lovers story. I loved every second of it.Emmett “Army†Armstrong just finished winning a championship when he gets called up to the NHL. He is cocky, arrogant and he knows it.Ryu Mori is a seasoned goaltender in the NHL and he now has the new cocky man on his team. He is quiet and keeps to himself and is quite the loner. He doesn’t have the greatest relationship with his parents, but he gets along great with Aunt JunThese men working as tandem goalies and they play off each other. Ryu has an instant dislike to Army, because of his attitude. They both continue to compete for starting goalie and it brings out the best in them both. They work hard and play harder. I loved the aspect when they dislike each other and think each other the enemy. Their growth from zero to where they get was fun to read. I love how they both hockey and on the same team. I liked the dominance that Ryu has. These men with their families have more in common than they think. With Ryu trying to gain his parent’s approval and Army trying to get his dad to be ok with him playing hockey instead of football. This book was hot, passionate, and so lust-filled it was steaming m.
I enjoyed Ryu ‘s and Emmit’s story, including continuing to see Tris and Seb. I liked that the enemies part of enemies-to-lovers was because of their positions and ultimately not about who they each were or past actions. It made developing a working relationship connected to developing a personal relationship, and then naturally a challenge to their relationship. It did feel more like an HFN than an HEA so I hope we’ll see more of them in the next book.I was given an ARC.
This book was intense. The competition was fierce for starting goalie and along the way feelings happened.I was happy with Ryu’s HEA. Emmitt was his true other half. Their give and take made for one hot book.Loved their competitive flair and romantic style. It felt genuine.I’m sad the next book is the last one. I’ve truly loved this series!
I just loved Ryu and Emmitt’s story! I am a huge hockey fan, and I absolutely love sports romances. Throw in a closeted athlete and I’m sold! This was a must-read book for me that I’ve had on my “I cannot WAIT for this book to come out†list forever. The authors did not disappoint because this was everything I hoped it would be and more! It was definitely worth the suspense. This story had a lot of emotion that I didn’t expect, but really made the story that much more impactful for me! After all, what’s a good sports romance without emotion! I loved the competition between Ryu and Emmitt, but most of all I loved them getting to the point of showing their vulnerabilities to each other. If you love a good enemies to lovers story with a dose of hockey, closeted athletes, and quick wit then this a must-read for you too! I couldn’t recommend this book more. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next from these two authors! I’m crossing my fingers on who gets the final story!
This book is fantastic! Hockey, enemies to lovers, what is not to love about that! Emmit is a up and coming goalie from a successful developmental team who is extremely cocky and thinks he is going to come in and take over. You also have Ryu who is the back up goalie from the previous season. He believes that since the starting goalie from the previous season was traded that it is his time to shine. It does not really work out how either of them thinks it would. They end up having to spending alot of time together becuase the coaches decide that they will have to work in tantem with each other instead of having one goalie. The sparks fly between these guys and there is great chemistry. The story is well written and thought out as well as there is alot of hockey in this book which I did appreciate it. I feel that a book cannot really be called a sports/hockey romance unless there are some hockey in the book. This is the first time that I have read anything by these two authors. After reading this book it has made me go back and find other stories by these authors, I really enjoyed this story and I cannot wait for the next book in this series! I voluntarily reviewed an Arc of this book.
… than Ryu’s, thoughts, winning me over. This was a case of opposites attract in some ways, and also like drawing out like in others. Emmitt – Army – was the newbie to the team and whilst I admired his confidence, and saw behind his brashness, I thought he was a bit too cocky and too ready to find his place in the team. Or, maybe that was the best way to do it, to make his intentions clear and state his piece, show that despite being the newbie, he wasn’t up for having to prove himself; he’d show his worth via his actions on the ice? In the end, he turned out to be the guy who melted Ryu’s ice and cool, understated confidence, though his arrival brought doubt and then stress to Ryu’s life.I did like that Ryu came to life with Army, initially through hating his confidence/cockiness and then later, when they fell for each other. I didn’t get to see as much of inner-Ryu than I expected, but that’s because the authors gave us the tale from Army’s side more. We got to hear Army admit what he wanted, voice his love, try to repair them when he thought they were in a bad place, and it made me see that he was a decent guy, just a not unreasonably ambitious one. The guys also connected in their family histories, a little. They loved their parents, were only children, and had stilted relationships with them, other than Army being close to his mother. His father seemed to be holding on to his glory days and couldn’t see Army as a successful guy in his own right, and Ryu’s Japanese paren.
Oh my gosh I’ve always wanted to read a book about goalies. As a huge local team hockey fan I’ve often wondered how romance would work. I loved all the interactions with the opposing teams and I wonder how true to life it really is. The trash talk, the whole I’m gonna score, and the relationship the team with each other. Emmitt has worked really hard and is traded for the NHL, the only catch is he has to work with the other goalie Ryu. Ryu is a great guy too, quiet and polite, doesnt like to be touched but an all around good guy. I loved the guys on the team and I hope they all get a story Bellzie(sp) , Tripod were freaking hilarious. I loved Tristan and Seb as well. I want the next book and see how this series is going to go!!!!Loved loved loved!!!
I liked Goalie Interference, but, as with the first book in the series, I feel like it is a little lacking in the romance department.I really enjoy the enemies to lovers trope, and the setup here is perfect. Ryu and Emmitt are very different in terms of their personalities, with Ryu being disciplined and self-contained and Emmitt being a cocky showboat. More importantly, though, they competing for the goalie position on their hockey team. Lots of inherent conflict there! The authors did an excellent job bringing the two of them together in a way that feel realistic for the characters. Primarily they bridge the gap through Ryu and Emmitt’s shared love of hockey and their shared passion for being a goalie. The fact that they are teammates who both want their team to succeed also helps them connect, because while they may be competing for a position, they’re still invested in each other’s success. Similarities in terms of family issues help build their relationship, too. There’s a lot of discussion of hockey and what it’s like to be a part of a hockey team in the book, and that part is very well done. There are also some fairly steamy scenes that add heat to the story. However, I felt like the romance between the two men could have been more developed on the page. The reader gets told that their feelings are deepening, but rather than internal monologues about how they feel, I wanted more scenes where we see the two of them interacting outside of having sex or talking/playing hock.
I feel I need to start this review with a couple of disclaimers: 1) I am a HUGE hockey fan and have been for over 35 years and 2) I think hockey goaltenders are pretty much gods. This may or may not have affected my opinion of this but…which I loved, unexpectedly. I wasn’t really interested in Ryu from book one and while I’m a big fan of Ms. Gale’s, I’ve been hit or miss with Ms. Vaughn. This can be read as a standalone although Tristan and Sebastian are in this book quite a bit.Ryu and Emmitt’s initial animosity is passionate which of course translated perfectly to the bedroom. At first glance, this appears to also be an opposites attract story but as we get to know both characters we can see they come from similar backgrounds and upbringing. Ryu’s not surprising but Emmitt’s dad made me angry…although living in Texas I see that type of behavior all the time. Football is king here, everything else is just a leisure activity. I was surprised at the glimpses of gentleness between these – how good they are at it and how much it worked for them. I really like them together and hope we see more of them in future installments of this series.I was pleasantly surprised by how the goalie competition was handled and while the outcome was as expected, there were a couple of shockers along the way. There was one scene in particular that played out as expected but I would have been sorely disappointed (and probably would have thrown my Kindle in a fit of rage) had it not happened exactly.
