This was my 6 1/2 year old daughter’s first video game and she absolutely LOVED it! She knows the basics about the Macintosh computer but had never used a keyboard before to navigate around a video game landscape. She was able to pick it up very easily. Game play is well guided and the difficulty is perfect for 6 year old’s. It is true that, in the beginning she needed an occasional input from an adult, but 99% of the game she played by herself. She would play it for hours on end if we didn’t limit it somwewhat. Start-to-finish, there is about 8 hours of gaming involved. But even after completing the game, she has no problem starting over and doing it all again. The only issue with the game that keeps it from getting five stars is that it has a couple of very annoying glitches. I have a strong suspicion that it is unique to the Macintosh platform. The first is, the game autosaves in “slots” (slot 1, slot 2, etc). When we re-start the game there is an error message stating “The data file is corrupt” and it gives you the option to continue, which starts the game over from the beginning, or Delete which, of course, deletes the file. Unfortunately my daughter had no idea what she was doing when this came up and she clicked delete on a file she had been working on for about 7 hours. I have found that when this comes up, if you eject the disk from the computer, hit “continue” or “back”, close out of the game, then reinsert the disk and restart the game, then your file is.
Granddaughter loved it.
No shooting or blood and guts that boys seem to like. Rather it is like Harry Potter game. It has the various Princess lands that can be explored to accomplish certain tasks to win points…that can be used to unlock certain dresses, jewelry, etc to outfit the ladies. It requires some problem solving skills to navigate the lands and has the magic twirls, jumps, etc. Requres longer train of thought to solve a situation, than say Angry Birds or Disney Splash apps.My soon to be 6 yr old granddaughter loves this game. She loves all things to do with the Princesses anyway. I think the game is aimed more at 7-8 yr olds if played alone. Requires some reading and the navigation of the game mechanics generally aren’t intuitive. But my granddaughter does well if I get her into the game and am available to answer some questions every once in awhile…for example how to get out of one Princess land to go to another (not obvious).I didn’t rate it as 5 stars because things are not as intuitive as they should be. For example how to get to the various Portals (Princess lands). Help on screen is useless. You touch the big question mark and it says to go though the Portal. But does not tell you how to do that and if you press again it does not give more detailed help but just says the same thing. The use of the keys, arrows, spacebar, and mouse are not consistent through the various lands.Game Hints: A couple things that I have learned through experimenting 1) to get to the porta.
My daughter (age 3 years and 8 months when she got this) loves the game even though she often needs my husband or I to help her with it when she gets stuck. This game helped to get her more interested in the computer and now she is much more proficient in computer usage. She will grow into this game and be able to more fully enjoy and play this game over the coming year. We’re not sorry we bought it but parents should know that for little ones you gotta stick around to help them out a lot.
We bought this for our 4 year old niece. She loves it. Her 8 year old brother and 10 year old sister also like it.
My five year old loves this game. Even after beating it she still loves to play it. Step by step instructions. Great game for little princesses.
One of the only newer Mac games for kids. We are having a hard time finding affordable Mac computer games that are not apps or don’t require a subscription or online account. 10 year old enjoys this a lot. We play it together. It can be a bit repetitive. I beat it in 5 hours alone but she has a lot to complete and doesn’t feel it’s too easy or for too little of kids. We love Disney so we are pleased with the purchase.
By far the best of the Barbie series. Both my grandchildren cant get enough of this game. The graphics are spell binding!
I bought this game for my daughter for her birthday. She plays it all of the time and can’t get enough!
My granddaughter saw it in you tube she loved itShe enjoys playing with it so does some other members of the family. It teaches her patience and is a great tool for the use of the mouse and letter recognitionn on the key board
