Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate 3DS

Set several months after the events of Batman: Arkham Origins, and serving as something of a companion release to the console versions of that game, Blackgate once again finds players fighting crime as the Caped Crusader, albeit in a side-scrolling, 2.5D manner. A mysterious explosion at the titular prison let Joker, Penguin, and Black Mask each form a small army and take over sections of the penitentiary. Gamers guide Batman along a set path through a variety of 3D environments, engaging in hand-to-hand combat and using his detective vision and gadgets to reach new areas.

I downloaded this game on Friday and have had a chance to play about 90 minutes so far, and I'm very very impressed. Great graphics for a handheld game, and I love the 3D effect. Highly recommended to anyone who's on the fence.

The story is fun and great to play through. The style of gameplay takes some getting used to and isn't bad. But the worst part about this game is that the textures are sooo bad, the graphics are really underwhelming (This doesn't make it a bad game though, look at Monster Hunters 4, bad graphics but amazing game) I wasn't a fan of the style of art used for the cut scenes, it made the voice acting seem silly. You see a picture but you hear a voice for a drawn picture that isn't moving... sort of awkward. BUT GREAT GAMEPLAY I recommend this game for the price that it is.

The game is great. There is a lot to do. My 6 year old really loves it! However it is hard even for me to understand some of the places I need to be. Even with that it is still a good game and pretty fun! Of course it is rated Teen so really if a 10 year old or older were to get this game I'm sure they would be able to figure out a lot of what is needed to do.

When at first you play this game, you might think it's an action game on rails that doesn't leave much for exploration - but you'd be fortunately wrong. This game plays like Castlevania Mirrors of Fate should have played: that is to say, once you find new equipment that enhances the mechanics of the game, other areas of the game open up for you, which encourages exploration. The game is a 3D side-scroller but at times moves things to the 3D plane and does a really good job of it. If you've played any of the other Batman games you'll be familiar with the fighting system as well - it's pretty much the same here and that's a good thing.The music is very good and atmospheric and fits nicely in the game - the same sort of fare from the other Batman games and even some of that Hans Zimmer feel from the Christopher Nolan films.This game is a little mix of Zelda platforming/puzzling with a bit of Castlevania back-tracking exploration. The way the game flows is something akin to a God of War game. You can't really 'explore' where you're going at each and every turn, per se, because the way your character interacts with the levels is sort of 'on rails' as mentioned earlier - but like God of War, you CAN still venture off the beaten path to other hidden areas. There's definitely room for exploration here. There's also the element of the detective mode, which reveals secrets and gameplay hints in the form of telling you what this door is or how that panel might turn on from a sudd.

The Batman:Arkham games on the console are some of the influential games out there when it comes to making a proper superhero game. I suppose the very first could go to Spider-Man on the PS1 but, still, the Arkham games let you do mostly everything that Batman can do and that's the standard with which most superhero games adhere to, these day. Now that we have a handheld version of that series on the 3DS, how does it hold up against it's console brethren? Arkham Origins:Blackgate puts you in the role of Batman once again as he returns to the Asylum 3 months later after the conclusion of Arkham Origins for the console. This time, the Asylum has been taken over by Black Mask, Joker and The Penguin. It retains everything you loved about the console games, like Stealth and Fighting, but in a limited way. Combat follows the same dynamic as the console games but on a 2D plane. While it is a fun game to play, it feels stripped down to it's barest essentials in play and doesn't quite feel inspired like the console games. My biggest gripe is that several things don't make sense in the game, like why Batman isn't so prepared when he gets to Arkham and why WayneTech crates full are all over a maximum-security prison with all kinds of Bat-gadgetry. Course, that's something most reviewers have pointed out. I know his being unprepared is something of a device that's used in most games of this nature so you'll have to work for them but they could have come up with another way for this or, a.

I gave this as a gift but had a chance to play it a while. I did not expect it to be a copy of the PS3/360 version of the basic game, which it's not, but it is a decent version all on its own. It plays like a typical fighter in a pseudo story mode. For the 3DS, it's tailored well and works as a portable Arkham themed game while killing time.It looks and sounds nice with good value but is not like its full blown counterparts on the big consoles.

One of my favorite games on the XBox 360 was Shadow Complex, a "Metroidvania"-type game. The gameplay on this Batman game is very similar, plus it has Batman in it, with some nice touches like the detective mode. If you like these type of games don't hesitate to purchase it, you won't regret it.

Batman is my favorite hero since I was a child. Batman Arkham games are my favorite Batman games included Batman Returns SNES. This game takes place before Arkham Asylum, Batman made a deal with Catwoman to stop 3 villains Black Mask, The Penguin, and The Joker from controlling Blackgate, a prison for violent and worst inmates. The graphics and control stick movements are similar to Castlevania Mirror of Shadows and I love the comic scenes. In this game, you will search for upgrades for your health and weapons, search for clues to get many unlockables, and search for parts for badass suits. I gave this game 5 stars and as a fan of Batman, I recommend you buy either of those games and trust me you will love them.

I was really excited for the release of Batman: Arkham Origins, even though I knew it was going to be made by a different company than the previous games in the series. My excitement waned a little when I heard the game was going to be released in portable consoles too, as the more platforms a game is released on, the less the quality (usually). Then, my excitement grew even more than before, since I heard that not only the game was going to be made by different developers from the other versions, but it was going to be a Metroidvania style, one of my favorites. And it was actually going to be a different story, a sequel to Origins.I played Origins on PS3 first, and I was quite dissapointed with it. A cumbersome story, lots of terrible bugs, unresponsive controls and a general lack of care hampered what, in its roots, could have been a great, really fun experience (which it was, when the game worked properly). Then, I got my hands on Blackgate and, boy, oh, boy! It is SO much better.The first thing you're bound to notice is that it's more or less the same style than other Arkham games. With a dark look, and more or less the same gameplay but in a 2D space. The game looks great, although in close-ups (like when Batman finishes a fight) the low-res textures and polygons become very noticeable, and the really dark look makes it a little hard to see when there's too much light around (better to play with electric light or no lights at all). Still, there are no slowdowns or bugs..

Great so far! The story line is entertaining. You get a "comic feel". My only negative comment it the controls. Sometimes its unresponsive during combos (fighting with bosses, bad guys etc). It can be very annoying! So you if can handle a very key sensitive game it wouldn't be a big deal breaker.

I was hesitant about getting the PS3 and Wii U versions because i know the 3rd installment was NOT made by the folks at Rocksteady and a lot of the online reviews noted that the third one just wasn't as great as expected. Anyways, i decided to get the Nintendo 3DS version instead and it was a Gold Box deal and i have absolutely no regrets. This game is formulated, yet it delivers and it is addictive and well made. I know some of these other hack and slash games seem formulated as well such as (i.e. Thor), but this one seems to nail it on the bulls eye and it just works.Batman does a lot of swinging around in his batarang while cashing down Catwoman, fights some bad guys, opens closed hatches, does some crawling Metal Gear style, fights some bad guys, swings around some more, opens closed hatches, and a lot of repetition. For some reason, this formula doesn't disappoint here. The music is great to and gets one hyped up when it starts pounding on as the fight scenes between the thugs begins. By the way, all the thugs are wearing the same clothes. Nothing inventive there. Would have been nice to have them change it up, but they didn't. I would recommend this version to anyone who has a Nintendo 3DS, 2DS, or a PS Vita. I am not sure if this is a direct port of the PS3 version so i won't say anything else except that this game is original in its own right.

Even though when traveling in the game you are not free to move around your environment like you could in the console versions for xbox360. But in battle with thugs the freestyle type fighting like you get in the previous games.Over all the game is good. Hours of entertainment. I've been chomping at the bit to be able to play one of the "Arkham" games. I've "played" them before, but I decided a while back that I was done buying new big screen systems... Right now I'm rocking the old school NES, the Super NES, the Sega Genesis, the N64, the PS2, and the Nintendo Wii. After the Wii I decided I was done with big screen, simply because all of these previous systems have their gems. I love the NES for Ducktales... I love the Sega Genesis for Chakan and Sonic, I love the SNES for Zelda (which is still my favorite Zelda), N64 for Banjo-Kazooie and Goldeneye... PS2, Vice City (and several others)... I think the Wii is the weakest link... Some games are good, don't get me wrong. Anyway, getting aside the point... I see all these new games like Arkham Asylum, the new Mortal Kombat, Grand Theft Auto 5, and they all look remarkable! But my collection is already far too big for the amount of time I spend playing video games as an adult...ANYWAY, so I made the decision that anything new I'd focus on portables, because portables take less room. I still haven't gotten a Vita yet because nothing really amazing has caught my eye as far as games are concerned.The 3DS... and more specifically, the 3DS XL is a great system. I think Resident Evil: Revelations kinda paved the way for me as far as potential this system has. The 3D feature is great and all, but much like the Wii Nunchuck system, I try it once and then want to go back to basic. With the Wii I ju.

This game is pretty good and not just for Batman fans. As others have stated, it's kind of like a Castlevania game. The graphics are pretty good, environments look nice and Batman looks good. Some of the other character models don't look so great though. There are a lot of hidden objects to find. It took me about 17 hours to complete, but there were times when I got off track. Most people can probably beat it in 15 hours or less.I would give this 5 stars if the controls were more responsive and the boss battles weren't so frustrating. The Penguin, Joker and Catwoman battles were so frustrating for me! You may not have the same experience though. I would recommend this game, it was fun and challenging.
