Awesome game for the Wii JRPGs at their best.
Good
30 hours in and I’m lost in the world. The game is VERY big, and every battle is an adventure to fight through. My biggest complaint, though, is that the game itself is designed to be a little too big. It’s one of those RPGs where you have around 30 possible teammates and pick which 4 to take with you out into the world (though some missions restrict you), but the thing I dislike the most is that, outside of fights, the main character doesn’t talk. These two things, to me, make the story feel a little less appreciable, as I feel like a silent protagonist shifts the story from the player-character to others. However, the game is amazing. The graphics and what they’ve done with them are something not commonly matched. As soon as you walk out the doors, or ride an elevator to the top floor of your home base you get to see as far as the horizon, no landscape clipping or disappearing objects; and the world is built in a very adventurous way, with outcroppings and overhangs and caves and cliffs. Enemies will sometimes load a little slowly, so you might be running through an area and suddenly enemies will populate the world around you, but that doesn’t happen too often. I have yet to get my mech, a "skell," but I know that will only open a whole new world to me! Seriously, get this game and have fun on the alien world you get thrown into. The battle mechanics are simple enough to enjoy but have a depth to them to keep you engaged.
While I am sad for the lack of Brits voicing the English version, getting back to the Xenogears mech roots was a time long in coming. The combination of MMO-like world traversal and quests keeps everything fresh while the story puts subtle pressure on you to get things done. You may not feel it, like Xenoblade before it, but that is because it was not meant to invoke the same feelings. This said, it drills deep into the Miranium of the player and finds a wellspring of emotions that rise the game up to equal that of its spiritual predecessor.WTl;DrBuy it or Lin will eat Tatsu.
I loved this game. This is a great RPG. Its beautiful and has so much to do. I spent more then 100 hours playing this game so you really feel like it was worth it to buy. The only thing I didn’t care for was when you make your own character, for some reason I just hate this feature. I feel like it limits the story, but gameplay is so fun that I was more then willing to overlook it.
Aliens and humans and mechs. What’s not to love?
It’s been exactly what I was hoping for. A JRPG with plenty of room to run around and poke things without too much scripted junk getting in the way.
In my opinion the original Xenoblade Chronicles was made much much better. Xeno X does have some good qualities, but lacks everything Xenoblade Chronicles is amazing for. Still Xenoblade Chronicles X is fun to play, just expect much more exploration than story.
My granddaughter loves this for her birthday
You can spend hours exploring and it will take forever to progress in the story line. It’s a good thing.
