X-Men: Next Dimension (alternatively title X-Men: Mutant Academy 3) is a fighting game, release in 2002 for the PlayStation 2. Xbox and GameCube video game consoles. It is the third installment in the X-Men: Mutant Academy fighting game series, following X-Men: Mutant Academy and X-Men: Mutant Academy 2.
Next Dimension expands upon the concept of the first two games by adding several new characters, 3D maps. And a story mode. Which allows the player to fight a series of battles in between short movies. That move the plot along. The game’s plot serves as a sequel to the events of the comic story “Operation: Zero Tolerance”.
Plot
Narrate by Patrick Stewart, the game’s plot is built around the Prime Sentinels bring back the head of Bastion. And Bastion’s ensuring attempt to wipe out mutant-kind. The game opens with the Prime Sentinels freeing Bastion from S.H.I.E.L.D. imprisonment. Then disguising themselves and selling the defense plans of Professor Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. The X-Men’s home and training grounds- to the Brotherhood of Mutants. Then the game moves forward to Forge fighting off Mystique and Nightcrawler in a city ravage by a Prime Sentinel invasion. And the graves of Anthony Stark, Warren Worthington III, Peter Parker. And Benjamin Grimm can be seen in the background. However, this is reveal to be a Danger Room simulation. And the X-Men begin training their adaptivity by fighting foe who have a tactical benefit.
However, during this training session, Juggernaut and the Brotherhood (consisting of Mystique, Toad, and Sabretooth) make their assault on the mansion. But Xavier is curious as to the nature of their attack, worrying that it seems “too focus, almost like a distraction”. Also sends Forge to investigate the grounds. Moreover, he discovers that the attack was a distraction, and that the grounds are now being patrol by Prime Sentinels.
But after seeking to fight off the Sentinels, Forge got kidnapped and the Brotherhood back down. Also detain in the company of Bastion, the seemingly human Sentinel tells Forge. That he intends to use the man’s mutant gift to bring about the extinction of mutants. And he steals various weapon designs from Forge’s mind, including a powerful weapon capable of stripping a mutant of their powers. In an attempt to throw the X-Men off his scent. He sends the Brotherhood to different locations across the world.
Stop the Prince Sentinel
However, the X-Men split up and engage each member in a bid to find Forge and stop the Prime Sentinel. After their defeat, the Brotherhood retreats to find Magneto in the Savage Land. Only to find that Magneto has been hunt down by the Sentinels as well. And is no longer in control of his fortress. But the X-Men, having follow the Brotherhood, also arrive and Magneto charges the Brotherhood to fight them off long enough to assure them to join forces.
With the X-Men and the Brotherhood forming a temporary alliance, the team fights their way through a legion of Sentinels. Though not without losses of their own. But in the end, Magneto, Wolverine, Juggernaut and Phoenix invade the tower for the final battle with Bastion. Also Bastion uses Magneto’s trans-mat system to transport Juggernaut away from the tower. And then escapes to Asteroid M. But he is follow by a piggybacking Wolverine. However, Wolverine whose healing factor was damage by the Sentinels earlier, manages to defeat Bastion. While Magneto and Phoenix arrive to help Wolverine. Also Magneto stop a weaken Bastion from freedom again. The two battle, and Magneto losses.
Bastion Returns
When Bastion returns to the central room, he finds Phoenix. Who challenges and finally blow him. The Prime Sentinels disband. And the X-Men and the Brotherhood agree to a temporary ceasefire. While the wound restore to health. Forge is freed and turn the effects of his weapon, restoring everything to normal. With Bastion return to S.H.I.E.L.D. The X-Men are free to continue training to fight for a better future.
Upon reaching the ending level of Asteroid M. The player has the chance to fight Bastion as three characters: Wolverine, then Magneto, and finally Phoenix. Whether Wolverine defeats Bastion or losses himself. The game proceeds to Magneto’s fight with Bastion. If Magneto kill Bastion, the finale video is simply advance. And Phoenix does not fight Bastion. If Magneto losses, Bastion and Phoenix cover the final fight of the game.

I had seen this game in the store several times and didn’t pay it much attention. My friend who works in the game store told me I would enjoy it. Once I started playing I was hooked. Unlike other games that have used X-men characters, this one really seems to bring them to life. I don’t know how this game plays on the other two systems but it plays beautifully on Gamecube. Load times are short, graphics are smooth, and gameplay is flawless.First off, it is a 3-D fighter. The gameplay is reminiscent of Tekken. There are two punch buttons, two kick buttons, one throw button, and one counter button. This game is all about timing. The counter button is tough to use but nice to have, since you’re timing has to be great. You hold back to block like Tekken. Unlike Tekken, where characters have lists of 40+ moves and some very complicated patterns, the move list is shorter, usually about 20-30, and are not too difficult to execute. If you like games where the moves are overly complex, you will not like this game. This is the type of game where a decent gamer, who may not be a master at games like Tekken, can master a number of characters in a relatively short time and not get bored. Sidestepping and jumping are easy in this game.There are similarities to DOA in this game as well. The backgrounds are interactive. You can knock somebody up against a car and it will blow up, or a control panel and receive a serious jolt. Other than the danger room, all of the boards have multiple areas..

This game rocks! I myself love X-men and I love this game. You play as characters and you kick other characters butts!! Or you fry them or you punch them or u shoot them ((mistique)) or you enter their minds and K.O. them from there ((psylocke/betsy)). My personal fav is Psylocke, the game calls her besty. She’s one of the fastest and her level 4 combo attack enters your mind through your eyes and kills u ((if your not at full health or it will nearly kill u)). And Walverine has these “Matrix” attacks where his moves slows down time in the middle of his attack and the camera moves like in the movie. And the graphics are EXECELLENT! In the 1st level you start on a building, you can knock the player off into a billboard then they fall on a cab! Or you can knock them down to a lower part of the roof them kick them !through! a building and onto the street. The only downside is that the controls are hard to master and can mess you up in other games. I would give it a 4.5 star game

OK, this is an awesome game. It’s pure X-Men action. With 24 X-Men to play as, including Cyclops, Wolverine, Gambit, Havok, two Setinals, Bastion, Pheonix, Dark Pheonix,Rouge, Beast, Magneto, Toad, Mystique, Blob, Sabertooth, and many, many more, along with great fighting stages, it will definatly keep you hooked. However, you will find story mode to be really difficult, because you play as Forge alot, and he really sucks, plus when ever you punch or deliver a good move, they ALWAYS block it. Game play can be a little chopy at times, but it’s still worth it. It can take a while to unlock characters and costumes, but the more reason for you to buy it:the challenge. So go, now, buy this game! You won’t regret it.
For a person who likes fighting games, this would be a game like Super Smash Bros. Melee. You choose a charcter, play their moves to hurt and kill other people. It’s very entertaining.The problem is pretty much, I would have liked it or somehow based it to a resemblance of the Xmen movie…And the graphics, would have to be changed too. Cause it feels like you are fighting pollygons instead of human features…But overall, I got it for Christmas, and it’s a good game, it will suprise you…Even if you really don’t have the time to rent it, buying it, you will still be impressed..
