I bought this game last night. I was hoping to see more WWE Superstars on the game along with a few more things. All the wrestlers on the game are featured on “Day of Reckoning except a few other WWE Legends. I’m really disapointed with the roster along with the Theme music not being in full, themes only last around 59 sec. or so. But other then all of that this game is really fun to play. If your a true fan of the Smackdown series do like me and collect them all.
Dont get me wrong the newest installment in the smackdown series is very worthy of the 49.99 you are going to lay down for it but there are several things that they either did away with or still for some reason unknown to me they still didnt put in the game. Lets start with the roster of wrestlers, I do now know what in the heck they were thinking here(im sure it was because of the increased graphics and they were unable to fit more wrestlers in the game)but the roster is extremely trimmed down. I dont really have a problem with trimming down the roster but what i dont get is why they included some wrestlers to begin with I mean who on earth wants to wrestle as Chuck Palumbo or Scotty to Hotty anyways? There has definately been a graphics upgrade and you can definately tell when you play the game. The backstage area has been trimmed down extremely, it is not one corridor with various weapons and things you can interact with on the sides. I have no clue why they trimmed the backstage area so much i mean i wasnt really a fan of several of the backstage areas in the previous games but they could have at least included the locker room since you see it in alot of the cutscenes anyway. One of the big featres was the voice acting. Now the actual voice work by the wrestlers during the season mode was interesting and it really does make it seem for lifelike, but the announcing during the matches is a different story. Horrendous is to good of a word to describe the announce team in sma.
Apart from the wack voice overs as you start the season mode, playing it from then is all good. You get to choose, start as either a chump competing in the low cards, or play as the superstars, who honestly have an easy path. I should know since i’ve chosen Booker T. Well, they hyped up the online mode alot, not that it’s a dud but it’s actually fun to ply. Single player is much better than expected in online mode, but the bad thing is there’s no online headset chat compatability, and no records of the opponent you’re facing. It basically you going into as room and challenging annonymous people, while you’re annonymous yourself. If you were looking forward to the Create a PPV mode, it’s not like you actually get to detail the arena and stuff, it’s just you summing up an eigth card battle, chosing your arena, and announce team. So now you can create the most memroble matches.Create a Belt will take long to custom since you need to get money by preforming additional tasks in both season and challenge mode. The voice overs was a bit shbby, not that it was bad, but some characters were really off, and others managed to get there act together, e.g. Triple H, Eddie Gurrero and Vince McMahon. The commentary is up to date but can continually be repeated, even in season mode, as now for the first time, it’s found throughout the game.Overall, this game was great, atill going on in season mode, but other than that, the game plays well, with a great roster, good graphics, some good voice ov.
Basically, from the looks of it, this is HCP with things that couldn’t be included due to the deadline. Apparently there will be FULL superstar voice overs, and with the money that THQ make annualy due to their wrestling games alone they can pay WWE’s greats to talk into a mic. There is only one new match however, and that’s the Parking Lot Brawl match which is dubbed from Cena and Guerrero’s 2003 grudge match, which is neat but may suffer from SYM’s casket match situation: Casket matches very rarely occur (and haven’t since 2002) so it wasn’t included, so the PLB most likely wil be rubbed out from the next SD! title.A couple of wrestlers will not appear in the game, even some who appeared at WrestleMania, like Lesnar and Goldberg, but if you really want them to be included, you’ll just have to create them in CAW.Well, basically everything else to hear you’ve already heard from others, so I won’t reapeat anymore.
Underrated game in the series, so glad to have it in my collection again.
Finally, Smackdown has come back to PlayStation 2, and boy, does it look good. Smackdown vs. Raw is on the PS2, and the sixth time’s the charm. The Smackdown games were godly creations if you were a wrestling fan, but they just got better.Smackdown vs. Raw is the complete package. It has a solid career mode, where all the characters have voice-overs from their respective Superstars (except for you, what you say is STILL captioned). It also has a variety of different matches that dig deep into WWE’s history, while still getting the more recently added matches into the picture. Also, if you have an Ethernet modem that can hook up to your PS2, Smackdown vs. Raw has Online capabilities.Overall, Smackdown vs. Raw stretches the greatness of wrestling. I, myself, began watching wrestling again because of Smackdown vs. Raw.
