I received this as a present and it has since been one of my favorite games. It’s now my go to gift for Christmas since anyone can learn it. You can play it by yourself or with a group. There are 144 tiles and the letters are engraved with black ink on each tile. I’ve had mine for over 5 years now and the letters are all still visible. I personally wash the tiles every couple of months since I like to play it on the floor and they’re still fine. While I understand that you can play with scrabble pieces, I like the feel and weight of the Bananagrams tiles more.
Our 20 year-old nephew gifted us this game. My husband and I play at least three games a day. We have a on paper tally and we run neck and neck. I’ve gifted it to my brother and his wife and they too play daily during this COVID period. I’ve gifted this game to pregnant mama awaiting their first child as they were trying to pass the time.
I eventually want to get all the fruits like this banana. I saw an idea where someone got all of the games and put them in a bowl so it looked like a bowl of healthy foods (apple, pear, banana). It’s a fun game too lol not just for decoration 😂
Bought this with the intent of helping my nine year old granddaughter expand her already extensive vocabulary. She is putting us all to shame and she relishes every minute. We have such fun.
We found that the rules of the game almost make no sense and are not very inclusive. The game is played individually against others rather than requiring any sort of cooperation or central focus around a board. Instead of following the rules we have just started dumping them on the table when we visit with family/friends and make a rule (no less than 5 letter words) or pick a theme (oceans, holidays, things, people, places) and have the common goal of using every single tile. It is a fun way to not compete, have conversation, and keep busy!
We use the Bananagrams weekly for our Seniors who live in our retirement home. All levels of activity and mentality enjoy this game. Some make words in a single line, and that is good too.. We work on spelling, and the meaning of words! Every Senior facility should use this game. I happily recommend it. We all look forward to playing it each week.
This has been a family and classroom favorite since it’s purchase! This game is challenging for all ages and abilities because of how it can be customized. The tiles are high quality and make it easy to bring along on a road trip, etc. A must have for any game night!
Banagrams is a wonderful way to spend time and can be played by yourself or with many people. It is also a fantastic, educational tool for teaching spelling to youngsters or those for whom English is a second language and want to practice their new skills. We played with my nephew (who was too young to spell) but when partnered with an adult, he could watch (and help a bit) as words were put together. The more he played, the better he got. Now that he is in Kindergarten, he is picking up on language and spelling very quickly. Another example, my cousin married a girl who learned English as a young adult. She normally doesn’t like to play games, but loves Bananagrams as it has been helping her with her English in a fun and interactive way.
I love it. My granddaughters (7 and 11) – not so much. We don’t compete – just make up our words and try to insert them. You can use whatever tiles are left to make up your words. They like that and I assume they are learning new words and spelling them. We tried using the 11 year old spelling words hoping that would give her another way to look at them. That didn’t go well and I had to look for where she hid the banana. In the past we had an apple – same idea. Don’t have that at this house. I recommend the game – just make up your own rules.
This is a great game for people that like writing, scrabble, competition, puzzles, etc. It’s a bit like scrabble in you make a board spelling out words that connect off each other, but its different in that each person has their own personal board, and there are no points to the letters. It is a time-based game of who can use all their tiles the fastest.I wouldn’t recommend this game be played in a group that is not evenly matched- it is very obvious if a player is falling behind more quick spellers, and could result in bad feelings. It only works well if everyone is evenly matched.
