I absolutely love this game. The story behind the game is well developed and the character acting is great. The game is very challenging, which is good because you’re never bord. I still haven’t beaten this game! The monsters get way tougher to beat as the game goes on and if you’re a beginner, you kinda have to learn how to use your weapons the best and what combinations to use without using all your AP up to beat one monster. This is especially true when you fight the bosses. See, every time you attack, you lose AP. If you lose all your ap, the only way to restore it is to walk around. Well, when you move, the monster can move so you have to be careful.Anyways, this is one of my favorite games to play for PS2 besides the Hobbit (which is a great game too). Oh, and the game has amazing graphics. If you haven’t already bought this game, I would highly recommend buying it.
Just as expected.
I guess this is more of a "first 5 hours impression" than a review. So far, I’ve been enjoying Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. I’m up through the end of the first dungeon and wow, it was a big dungeon for just being the first one. The customization you can do to your characters in this game is extensive, and I have the sense that there are some pretty complex systems at work. There’s weird item crafting you can do at the merchants, but only if you win the merchants’ trust, and the enemies drop special parts but only if you attack them from the right angle. Then when you link your abilities together you get more if you link them a certain way in the grid… it’s complex. Which is good.It seems like a "power gamers" kind of game. You know who you are. I can be in the mood for that once in a while and I think I’ll enjoy this game. From just playing the first 5 hours (I’ve been busy dang it!) I like it.
When I first ordered this game based on everyone else’s reviews (I know, not always a good idea, but sometimes you got to gamble, right?) I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’m a big fan of the original Valkyrie Profile, but from all of the reviews I read, it didn’t seem like the developers were going to be true to the original in either gameplay or storyline. Well to my surprise, they were, and this sequel (or prequel, I should say) has actually surpassed the original on many different levels.Story 4/5: Okay, the story is pretty hard to follow. This is the first game I’ve ever played where the story has made me go, “huh?” I’m not sure if it was because I got so engrossed in the gameplay and lost track of it, or if the story is just that convoluted. I had to ask a friend of mine about it to figure out what was going on. When I got back on track, I thought it was a neat story. Nothing spectacular, but cool. For those of you who are expecting the depressing themes of the first game, you might be disappointed. Whereas the original Valkyrie Profile had a very mature storyline that deviated from traditional RPGs, Valkyrie Profile 2 has a story that pretty much defines “traditional RPG.” This is why so many people said this game has lost the “feel” of the original. It has in some ways, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.Gameplay 5/5: Amazing! I was skeptical about the battle system at first, but after a few battles, I was in love! You don’t need to have studied Sun Tzu.
The item was exactly like it was posted. Great service
After realizing that I wrote this review after only a few days of play, I thought it was time to give this game the review it deserved. No, “VP2” isn’t a masterpiece, but then again, it’s hardly the stinker that some of the reviews have made it out to be.Let’s begin with the good:- Story: I really don’t understand what some of these reviewers were playing.VP has a pretty strong story. Sure, it slows to a crawl at times, but in the end, it’s a pretty good tale. It has issues (the one point I would agree on is that time-travel usually screws up a story, and here it only serves to confuse matters), but I (being one of the five people who played the original “VP” on the PS) was quite happy to see the backstory of Dipan, one of the more mysterious venues in the original game.- Battle mechanics: Very nice. Sometimes, battle can be overly difficult, but all in all, it’s a lot of fun to play. Any RPG that offers even a semblance of strategy for battles is nice, and this game gives significantly more than that. Run up and kill the leader for a quick end to a battle, or try to beat some of the subordinates to obtain items for weapon and armor construction.- Graphics: The backdrops are simply gorgeous. The character models are nice, but their movements are a bit stiff, particularly during cut scenes. But all in all, this is quite aesthetically pleasing.- Extras: Tri-Ace has never disappointed in this regard, and the Seraphic Gate once again carries on the tradition of completely optiona.
I love this game. I had it a long time ago but i traded it in. I recently bought it again, new, and loaded it into my original 60 GB PS3. The game would not boot, and i would lose the ability to get to the ps3 menu. Apparently you have to run the audio over an optical cable, and not over HDMI and change the multi source something-or-other option to YES. I dont know. Even when i did that it would boot just about every other time. So frustrating since the reason i bought the original PS3 was for the hardware emulation for ps1/2 games. Truly a sad day.Still, a great game if you loved the original and own a ps2.
Haven’t tried it yet, but it arrived in good condition. I am going back an trying to collect up all the old ps1 and ps2 rpgs that I haven’t ever played before (didn’t have a ps1 or ps2 during their hey day). I can’t wait to pop this one in and check it out!
I had to buy a new playstation 2 just to play this game
Great game
