Star Fox Adventures

Star Fox Adventures is a 2002 action-adventure game develop by Rare and publish by Nintendo. The game had a long development cycle starting in 1997. Originally develop as Dinosaur Planet with Rare characters as the protagonists. However, Nintendo producer Shigeru Miyamoto convince Rare to remake the game as part of the Star Fox franchise. Its plan release on the Nintendo 64 was cancel, with development ultimately shifting forward one hardware generation to the GameCube.

The game was release on 23 September 2002 as Rare’s only GameCube game. And as the final game that Rare develop for a home Nintendo console before being acquire by Microsoft the day after Starfox Adventures release in the US. The game’s story takes place eight years after the events of Star Fox 64. Players take control of Fox McCloud, who is sent on a mission to visit a planet in the Lylat System and prevent its destruction.

The game receive mostly positive reviews, notably for its detail graphics. New designs of characters including Fox, and its dynamic environments. However, the voice acting and the departure from the traditional Star Fox-style gameplay receive criticism.

Description

At the far peak of the Lylat system, a lush planet is in turmoil. Once a primordial paradise, Dinosaur Planet has been torn apart by an evil dinosaur name General Scales. This monster has cause sections of the planet to be rip up and flung into low orbit. And his legions of mutate dinosaurs are running wild. It’s been 8 years since the best pilot in the Lylat System, Fox McCloud, defeat Andross, and Fox’s team has since disband. So when word of Dinosaur Planet’s plight reaches General Pepper, it’s Fox alone who must shoulder the burden.

Fox McCloud is back. But he’s left the on-the-rails. Shoot-’em-up larks of his previous two games behind. This all-new Star Fox adventure sees the super furry animal in a very Zeldaesque bid to save Dinosaur Planet.

Although the control system is very similar to The Legend of Zelda’s, Star Fox Adventures is no simple clone. Moreover, it’s your job as the mercenary mammal to find all the spell stones. That will rejoin the splinter planet and defeat the evil General Scales. And this entails much exploring of ancient temples and completing of subquests to help everything from Yorkshire-accent woolly mammoths to pterodactyls who’ve lost their babies.

However, the game may lack the epic scale and endless invention of Zelda. But it has plenty of new ideas of its own. Including a fully interactive dinosaur sidekick, some cool shoot-’em-up sections in Fox’s spaceship. And lots of ways to upgrade a magical staff your weapon of choice when out of your ship. But to add some icing to the cake, the graphics are absolutely amazing, particularly the superrealistic fur effects.
