I first played this game shortly after it came out in the early 90’s, during my 5th grade spring break. The game is an action RPG, meaning, you fight the enemies in real time and not in a separate screen like the Final Fantasy series. In the game, you play one of a god’s servants, who is trying to help free the world from the grip of Deathtoll, who is essentially the devil. As you go through the game you pick up different weapons, armor, and magic which allow you to advance through the game. I remember that I found the sound and music to be quite beautiful at the time, and I still enjoy it today. The game is definitely worth a look, if you can find it. If you enjoy games such as Actraiser or Illusion of Gaia, you’ll love this one.
I love this game. Since I was a kid. It works great and it’s in perfect shape. Great shop, great game.
This is a really solid game by Quintet (published by Enix), they made games almost as good as Squaresoft. the music is freaking awesome, the controls are pretty good, the aesthetic is pleasing, the story is quite interesting and it still holds up today. The original game in Japan is called Soul Blader and there are some minor censorship differences, most notably, the Poseidon boss is female and topless. This is the first game I REALLY remember figuring out all on my own as a kid. Well, except the times I ran up the phone bill calling the Nintendo Power Helpline on that stupid first boss. Very ambitious game for its time, what a story!
Ahh, I can already feel the rush of nostalgia coursing through my veins. This bad boy was one of the first video games I ever played, back when I was too young to really understand how huge of an impact everything in this game made you feel like you had. For the Super Nintendo, Soul Blazer has touched the hearts of many, many casual and hardcore gamers alike, myself obviously included in that mixture.STORY: 7/10The setup is pretty simple, this time around. King Magridd, a greedy and ambitious ruler of the land, decided that he wanted to become an eternal man of riches, never seeing his fame and fortune wither away into nothing. So, he demands that a famous scientist, Dr. Leo, to create a magical machine that can give him contact with Deathtoll, the lord of evil. Magridd agrees to give Deathtoll what he wants, in exchange for eternal wealth and fame. Agreeing to this deal, Deathtoll grants Magridd’s wish, but at the cost of every single life on the planet, including his. Now that the world has become completely empty and barren of life, the Master–otherwise known as “God”–summons you, the hero, down to the planet to resurrect the world’s life and eventually find your way to the world of evil to destroy Deathtoll. And that’s…pretty much it. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad plot whatsoever. Like I said, it’s easy to follow and understand, and the game itself does a good job of keeping you focused on the plot. But even so, that doesn’t mean we can’t add more to the sto.
In my opinion piror to this game they only real rpg’s that had came out so far in the USA where the dragon warrior games not including gameboy, or maybe Mother(earthbound) but I believe that only came out in Japan for NES. Firstly judge this game for it’s time 1992 for it’s time this game was ahead of it’s time. Firstly the saving feature this game is easy to save none of that hold the reset button then power off. Of coarse many would argue that Legend of Zelda for nes was a good game piror to this game’s release. Sorry not a huge Zelda fan so I’d beg to differ, this game is weird and simple. However, trust me for it’s time this game was pretty advanced, were a kid in the early 90’s you know what I mean. Just give this game time it is pretty good.
Soul Blazer is an excellent early action RPG game for the SNES system. It might seem old and crude by today’s standards but for the time period it came out in it measures up nicely. You have to remember this game came out at the beginning of the SNES life span before Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past, FFIII, and Chronic Trigger. The bosses are challenging and the game has a nice feel to it.It is similar to Actraiser where you kind of unlock the whole world within the game. Only in Soul Blazer you do it by beating every enemy which unlocks a part of the stage. The weapons and armor are pretty simply and you do get a good choice of items throughout the game. I found myself really enjoying playing my way through this game especially the last stage which looks really cool. Enix had yet to merge with Square and was putting out its own games at the time and this one was fun. Don’t let the silly name fool you this is a very good game.As far as older action RPG’s go this is definitely worth playing. It should only take about 2 or 3 days to go through the game depending on how fast you are going through it. I actually liked this game more than Illusion of Gaia even though the graphics were much better for that game.Gameplay: 8/10Play Control: 8/10Story/Originality: 10/10Challenge: 8/10Replay Value: 7/10
Soul Blazer is one of the funnest and most interesting RPG’s I have ever played. I like they way you need to "release" characters in town from the monster nests (I guess that’s what you’d call them). This game, no doubt, should be part of anyone’s collection, whether you love RPG’s or not. The storyline is excellent, and some of the character’s abilities are really cool as well, such as seeing people’s dreams and talking to and understanding animals.
Action RPGs were certainly in their prime on the SNES (Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Zelda 3, Illusion of Gaia, etc…) and this was a winner among champions!Though Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore were much better and much deeper games, this game is still tons of fun. Fighting is easy to grasp and fun, the magic system is very well done, and the game has some extras and secret areas that make revisiting and exploring fun. The music is good, the graphics very good, the different realms are all unique and interesting.Plus it’s fun to unlock towns and villages by releasing the ‘souls’ that are trapped. Pretty unique. My only beef is that the game is a little too easy and too quick.
It all began back in 1995 when i was 11 years old.Me and two friends of mine borrowed Soulblazer from an older boy in my neighborhood. At that time we did’nt know what an RPG was…So this was the first time i ever experienced this genre.Me and my friends loved it,everything was great about it.I love the monster lairs…And the dream rod…of course..So,if you have the chanceand simply love old school RPG’s…..BUY IT !!!!!!!!!!!
This was one game I always had to borrow from a cousin. I am so glad I found a copy, I long since beat it was I always enjoy playing this game.
