I rented this game (thank God I didn’t buy it) because everybody said it was the scariest game ever made. Well, I don’t consider running for hours scary. Once in a while there is some kind of monster thing that wonders around. Best thing to do is run right past them or ignore them if you can. Not scary. The scariest part of the game is when the characters interact with each other. Great graphics and great voice acting make them very creepy. The graphics are great but there is a serious problem with the overuse of fog. I know the creators were going for a certain look but it makes the game incredibly difficult to play when you can’t see two feet in front of you. Another problem is the camera. It always seems to be in the worst possible place. You have to keep moving it and even then you can’t get it right. Aside from the games problems, and the fact that it’s not scary, the game is enjoyable to play as a puzzle game and it’s worth the rental just to see the cool graphics. The game would be a lot better without the fog. Here’s what I give it out of a perfect 5.0Graphics: 4.0 (bad fog)Sound: 5.0 (great sound)Control: 3.5 (bad camera)Fun Factor: 4.0 (fun game)
The town of Silent Hill is a fog blanketed, run down resort town. It is also you,James Sunderland, and your late wife’s "special place". After recieving a letter from beyond the grave calling James to Silent Hill, you take over and try to figure out just what is going on.Unfortunatly, Silent Hill is not the happy town of memories James remembers…Silent Hill 2 has a storyline completely seperate from the prequel. This means having the first Silent Hill title completed is not entirely neccesary. Those of you that scare easily, do yourselves a favor and rent this one, you won’t make it all the way through to the end. This game is one of the most genuinely frightening games I have ever played. Resident Evil’s "boo" scare tactics can’t hold a candle to the dark and intense atmosphere created by this game. The monsters are disturbing and will appear at random. On the topic of graphics, this game leaves only a little to be desired. I enjoy the grain effect and find that it helps to set the mood well, but it also will blur an already difficult to see hallway or fog filled street. This is only a minor qualm however. On another note the character animations are all fantastic, except for thier mouths. They seem altogether too large for thier faces. At a particularly intense cinema I almost laughed at the sight of a character appearing to look like Pac-Man.Now the best quality of the game would have to be the sound. A radio will emit static when a monster is close by,.
I’ve played and beaten this game dozens of times, it’s a classic.I bought it used and it was still in perfect condition. Great deal!
When simply viewing the game, the visuals are superbly done. A distinct atmosphere is created, and the character definition is excellent. At times, such features as fog and lack of lighting can overcast the graphics, however, this is meant to add to the environment, and it does just that. The CGs are beautiful as they should be, and are one of the reasons the game can be as spine-chilling as it is. The detail that is shown in these scenes is sick, and thats what is great about them. Silent Hill 2 is absolutely a gross depiction of your worst nightmares, and is just that much more fun to experience while you are awake. Be warned, though, SH2 may seep into your subconscious and be waiting for you when you close your eyes, thats how detailed a few cut scenes can get at times. When speaking solely of gameplay graphics, SH2 does a terrific job. The game doesnt quite compete with titles such as Devil May Cry, ICO, or Gran Turismo 3, but then again, those types of games arent trying to create the atmosphere SH2 is hoping for. When attempting to create a setting that is eerie and mysterious, brilliant graphics are not what is desired. Konami has achieved a very paranormal affect, and the overall feeling of the game benefits because of it. The story in Silent Hill 2, although taking place in the same town, is completely different then the first. If you recall, the original Silent Hill dealt with the character Harry, who was searching for his daughter, Cheryl, after a terrible car.
If you’re looking for a game that will scare you, this is definetly what you want to buy. Ships quickly, and is delivered right on time. Works great, and I play this game all the time! TIP: Never play this at night! Can get pretty creepy!
Amazing game, and possibly one of the best of the Silent Hill series. My personal favorite of all the games.
Near mint silent hill 2, what else can i say? Amazing game. I’d consider this one the best out of the whole series. Thanks.
Atmospheric and Eerie, Silent Hill 2 gives you everything that you have come to expect from what could become a very successful series. The areas that you must explore, from the haunted hotel to the harrowing hospital are as spine chilling as anything that you will have seen before, or probably ever will again. The only problem that I have with this game is that the enemies are repetitive and you see the same ones over and over again. Also the replay value is extremely low, unless you want to see one of the four or five different endings. Otherwise getting through the game the second or third time is awfully boring.
Great game
I just got this game… and I also just finished it. It is pretty short compared to games I’m used to playing… but I also thought it was worth playing at least once. A bit outdated, but you get attached to the characters. Not really screamably “scary”, but it’s still best to play it in the dark, because the game overall has a creepy atmosphere. There is A LOT of walking around and opening and closing doors… some may not be able to handle that without getting really bored really fast. This is not an action-packed game. One must have a certain amount of patience to play it. DO NOT get this game if you are a gamer who relies on smooth controls, fast pacing, and fantastic graphics to enjoy a game. This game is more for people who can appriciate a game in terms of the era it was created, love the culture of “scary”, and, like I said, have a lot of patience for clunky controls, slow pacing, and outdated graphics. I have to say, the makers for sure chose the best settings for the game… abandoned mental ward… abandoned prison…. abandoned apartment building… in an abandoned town. Yeah, pretty much everything is abandoned- unless you count the dozens of barfing(?), leg-kicking monsters infesting stretches of never-ending road. I think that this game is worth a try… but some might be disappointed if they pay a hundred dollars for it. I say find it cheaper somewhere, then decide if you really love it. Silent Hill 2 is an acquired taste.
