Sega Game Gear – Features
The Sega Game Gear was a revolutionary system for its time. Technologically superior to its competition, the console packed quite a punch and was regarded as one of the most powerful handheld systems of its time. It also was one of the first systems to look at ergonomics: its rounded edges and longer length make playing it far more comfortable than other handhelds.
A Powerhouse Of The 4th Generation
The Game Gear has impressive specifications for a handheld console, using most of the MasterSystem’s hardware, allowing it to play complex games and display beautiful graphics and high-quality sound. Its screen features a 160×144 resolution, and its advanced chipset grants it a palette of 4096 colours, of which 32 can be displayed on-screen at a time!
Full-colour Backlit Screen
With the Game Gear, you no longer have to worry about nighttime or too much sunlight. The system features a fully backlit screen, allowing you to play your favourite titles in all lighting conditions. It’s also full colour, so you don’t have to compromise on those beautiful graphical details when you game on the go!
Sega Game Gear – The Games
With a library of over 300 own titles and compatibility with the Sega Master System, the Game Gear boasts an impressive list of games, guaranteeing you’ll always find something to play on the go.
Columns
This is a highly addictive puzzle game. It will have you attempt to match three symbols of the same type by arranging falling columns. Lastly, you can move the columns left and right and cycle the position of the gems inside them. Aim for that high score, or try to reach the game’s limit of 99,999,999 points for endless fun!
Ecco The Dolphin
Take on the role of the beloved Ecco. Ecco is a bottle-nosed dolphin looking to defeat the evil alien race known as the Vortex to rescue his friends. The game’s unique theme is reflected in the gameplay. You will use Ecco’s natural abilities to overcome obstacles and defeat your foes, ramming, swimming and using your echolocation for a truly unique experience!
Sonic The Hedgehog
Take the role of the beloved Sonic in this all-acclaimed, fast-paced platformer. Embark on a quest to defeat Dr. Robotnik, a scientist who has imprisoned animals in robots and stolen the powerful Chaos Emeralds. The gameplay involves collecting those iconic rings as a form of health and an easy-to-learn but hard-to-master control scheme. You can control jumping and attacking by a single button.
Mortal Kombat
A port of the original arcade title, this version features all the action you love about the series. Choose from the now-iconic characters: Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, Raiden, Scorpion, Sonya, and Sub-Zero and take on your opponents in the Mortal Kombat tournament to save Earthrealm. Like the Genesis version, this port features a blood code, allowing you to enjoy the game.
Streets Of Rage 2
This side-scrolling beat-up up almost needs no introduction. Taking the role of Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding or the all-new Eddie “Skate” Hunter, you will again take on Mr. X and his Syndicate using an arsenal of weapons, combos, and the now-iconic Blitz Attacks.
Disney’s Aladdin
Disney’s Aladdin is a 2D side-scrolling video game. The player controls Aladdin and his monkey Abu through several stages throughout the city of Agrabah. With each stage, defeat foes by jumping on them, throwing apples to avoid obstacles, collecting gems to turn them into health and extra points and more.

I have had my Gamegear since 1993, and it is great. Now, the system has brilliant colors, fantastic sound capabilities (sound quality will vary from game to game…some games will sound great, and some games will sound like …), fantastic graphics capabilities (as with sound, graphic quality will vary from game to game…some games will look great, and others will look like …), a perfect layout of the thumbpad and buttons, and a variety of peripherals. One of the most outstanding peripherals available for the Gamegear is called the Master Gear Converter (also called the Gear Master Converter). This device plugs into the Gamegear cartridge slot and has a screw that screws into the Gamegear’s rear screwhole (the screw holds the converter in place). What the device does is allow you to play almost ANY game made for the Sega Master System (BTW the Gamegear is considered by many to be a portable SMS…they have similar hardware specs)! Needless to say, SMS games which required the Sega 3D Glasses (such as Zaxxon 3D or Missile Defense 3D) will not work with the converter because the 3D Glasses cannot be plugged into the Gamegear. And some SMS games are not available on Gamegear (Altered Beast, a SMS game I have, was not made for the Gamegear, but when you add the converter, you now have Altered Beast on Gamegear!).Gamegear has hundereds of games, and when you add the Master Gear/Gear Master converter, you will have a ball! In closing, Gamegear is a great classic system!
Screen doesn’t work
I ended up selling my GBA to get this. I personaly like it because of the Sonic Games, but there are over 200 games to fit your taste in games. I bought a used Sonic 2 cart with it and a AC Adapter. You really need an AC Adapter or you’ll be spending $100 each year to get batteries, since it sucks them up in less than an hour. You should also get a carrying case because its too big to fit in you’re pocket. The other good thing about it is that it has a built in light behind the screen. So you don’t have to go buy a Wormlight like for Game Boy Color and stuff. I recamend it to anyone who is strong enough to pick it up.
Bad was broken
I am very happy with this product and I recommend service
Well packaged. Works great. It took me right back to junior high school sports trips playing game gear in the bus.
This is a great system,I just bought it yesterday at Ames, Its a great system has Great sound,Graphics and games. Compared to Super Gameboy,The Pocket,Color and Advance, and Neo Geo It IS a 5 out of 5 star system, And this does not need a light like those do.. Want a load of fun… Gamegear is Your Thing!
You know it. The sega Game Gear.
Better than Game Boy better screen. No need for a light, for the dark. 6 batteries… needed but game gear is worth it. Trust me i have 2. my favs are Sonic and S2. Hands down its the best handheld yet… had color before gameboy ;)
Great backlit color graphics beat GameBoy Color by miles (can play in dark with no problem). Great games (Sonic)! Only problem is battery life. Buy rechargeables, AC adapter, and DC car cable, then it’s no longer a problem (it’s what I did)!
