It’s important to keep in mind that many of these games are now selling for $8 a piece on the Wii’s Virtual Console. Also, Sega recently released the first Sonic the Hedgehog game for $20 on the GBA. So you’re getting huge value for your money by buying this collection instead.I never played any of these games before (I was a Nintendo kid), so nostalgia isn’t clouding my view. I just like a good game, and I can appreciate gaming history when I see it.Ths slow platformers I could do without – Alexx Kid, Decap Attack, Ristar – they’re just not my thing. But everything else is just top-notch, whether you’re in the mood for a fun, co-op multiplayer game, a hardcore action game, an epic RPG, or just a mesmerizing puzzle game.On top of all the fantastic games, you’re also getting interviews with the developers, pictures of the box art, and little “Did You Know?” facts about each game. The whole thing also runs in Progressive Scan, which is nice (although hardly noticeable, for obvious reasons).Overall – this is not just a collection for Sega fans, nor just a cheaper way to get all these old classics in one package. It’s just a great buy for anybody who loves games, and understands the fact that what makes a game “good” isn’t bump-mapping or high-def output.
and thats whats important. has like 20 plus games for 11 bucks .. you can’t beat that with a stick!
this is a great game because it has vectorman 1 and 2; it played as great when it was in its sega days.
a+
I’m a self-proclaimed Sega junkie. I owned a Sega Genesis for the better part of 10 years and played it every day right up to the very end of its life and I still continued playing during the Dreamcast years and continued to purchase future Sega games and compilations over the years, from the Sega Smash Pack on the Dreamcast to the Gamecube’s Sonic Mega Collection (I have yet to obtain the Gems Collection) and now I finally got my hands on one of the games I’ve looked forward to most in 2006: The Sega Genesis Collection. It really is like a larger Sega Smash Pack, complete with 28 console games and 5 unlockable arcade emulations. Many of Sega’s classic standbys, including Sonic, Altered Beast, Vectorman and Phantasy Star, are on here, along with a few underrated gems, including Comix Zone, Ristar and Columns. There are a few included games that are rather on the junky side, however, and pose the question of the exclusion of such games as Shining Force, Streets of Rage and The Ooze (another underrated classic that was included along with Comix Zone on the PS2 and XBox versions of Sonic Mega Collection). There is also reason to wonder why the original Revenge of Shinobi isn’t included, but this may have to do with copyright issues over Spider-Man (yes, Spider-Man) appearing in level 6.Here’s a breakdown of the compilation’s better games (no separate ratings):Altered Beast: A classic arcade game. Simple yet difficult enough to keep you playing for many hours and can be a good tim.
I’m not into the video game thing, but I bought this for my husband, who has been having so much fun with it! There’s these little extras that you can unlock along the way, like interviews and different games, and different versions of the games. They’re deceptively simple looking, but end up being harder than you would think. It’s certainly worth splurging on, because you get a LOT of games for that price, in addition to the extra features you unlock (by playing more games).
This Game collection was well worth getting. I really missed playing some old games from Sega and my brother informed me of Cd for PS2 that you kind find with an array of games, but I thought just like many before me, if i ran across any of them they would probably be filled with some crappy games and only one or two good ones. But just like the others reviews I was wrong. I purchased it through one of the other shops who sale there products through retrolio for less then 11 bucks, and I think I got it for like 8 bucks, shipping cost was ridiculous but overall I felt it was well worth it in regardless. The day it arrived I was eager to pop it in my PS2, and was so satisfied with what I saw. I feel there is no need to list the games on my review, since so many before me have. But it was what I was looking for so for me it was worth buying.
Classic… great sega games!!
Stepping into the retro-gaming craze is Sega, collecting 28 Genesis titles on one PS2 disc for your classic gaming goodness. For old school Genesis fans like me, this is a chance to relive the good ol’ days, while for others who missed out, you can see why us Sega loyalists are so fanatical about the 16-bit era. The games include (with 10-point scale ratings):Alex Kidd In The Enchanted Castle: Cartoony graphics, questionable controls and silly paper/rock/scissors battles plague this game, the only 16-bit appearence of Sega’s original mascot. Great for historical buffs and the kiddies, not much else. 5/10.Altered Beast: The original pack-in game, an arcade port of a simple side-scrolling action game. Doesn’t quite hold up to the test of time for noobs, for alright for a nostalgic dip. 5/10.Bonanza Brothers: Two thieves trying to steal various items in mansions, casinos and high-rises. Graphics are odd, controls peculiar, but the game is strangely addictive. 6/10.Columns: A puzzle game, matching colored gems in rows of three or more. The original Tetris killer. You’ll spend hours on this. 8/10.Comix Zone: AWESOME concept, as an artist of a comic is sucked in while the comic’s main villian escapes and tries to keep the artist trapped. A precursor to cel-shading, the gameplay is amazing for the time period (1995). Only flaw? Difficulty, which is INSANE. You NEED the cheats. 8/10.Decap Attack starring Chuck D. Head: Insipid action platformer in the vein of Sonic, with a mummy who.
