Pikmin is about an alien named Olimar who’s space ship crashes on his way home. With his ships pieces scattered across a strange planet, it’s up to Olimar to find all of the pieces of his ship so he can return home. To do this, Olimar befriends a race of beings called Pikmin. Pikmin are these strange sprout like creatures that Olimar can pluck from the ground just like pulling carrots. Blue ones can swim. Red ones are immune to fire. And yellow ones can be thrown far. You need to work as a team with the Pikmin using the correct colors for the correct areas. There’s actually a lot to talk about but really the best way to learn about this game is to play it. It’s a gamecube game with wiimote controls and unfortunately nothing new was added so it is fairly short. It is a classic, though, and any Nintendo fan should have it as a part of their main collection.
This game has been out for a while but I just wanted to chime in: I bought this because I have a 2 year old and was looking for good games to play (and be interested in) with my son, that he could also enjoy. Pikmin was an obvious choice. I played the original back in the game cube days, so I knew what I was in for.I must say, for a ten year old game, it holds up. The new play controls are very much intuitive, one would think the game was designed for the wii from the start. The graphics look old, they come from the gamecube of course, and other than resizing the display to fit a 16×9 screen without stretching, no improvements there have been made. Given the cartoony style of the game however, there’s nothing really wrong with that, although some anti-aliasing would’ve been nice. This game is challenging & compelling, yet completely appropriate for children of any age and therefore makes an excellent gift to a young child. Rare is the game that nails a ‘G’ rating and is addicting to play in the modern gaming era. Pikmin nails it.
This was actually a gift for someone, so I never got to try this version (He never opened the game…). However, I played it on the original system it was released on, and I loved it! Not much else I can say about this, though…
Great first Pikmin Game. Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 3 are better but buy this as an introduction to the series if you can find for $20 or less.
Exactly as advertised.
This is one of the most engaging games available for the Wii. Our son loved it, and immediately started begging for Pikmin 2. I am pleased with its E rating, meaning that it did not try to make up for deficiencies like many other games do by resorting to sex or violence. Instead, it stands on its own as a great family game.
Great series. I wish the graphics were better but can’t complain, it’s an old game.
My grandson loves it! He already wants the number 2 one. I told him that I would get it fr hm for Christmas, but he got it for St. Nick’s on the 6th. Because the most reputable people on retrolio got it to us n record time- in perfect condition! So my grandson said- if St. nck brought this, what will you do for Christmas? He sooo loved this game, and was thrilled!
Quirky and fun little game back on the GameCube; here on Wii with better controls (especially the pointer) it is even more enjoyable. I’ve played the heck out of it over the years and still will pick it up again on occasion. Have not actually fully completed this particular version but I don’t think much else changed besides the controls.
This is a speed runner’s game. The gameplay is simple, but still had fun. I actually did not meet the "30 day" limit on the game the first time I played.
