Our grandsons enjoyed in the beginning but are finding its very hard as they go thru the stages – they are 6 and 9 and tho their father helps them, it is too difficult for them at this time for them – that is what they tell me-
The game is fun but not the best. The biggest issue I have with the game really is that you need to use cards to do battle but the 99 cards space doesnt always feel enough. Reason being is that there are a lot of situational type enemies that need to be beaten in a certain manner so you have to have specific cards to beat them, so you need to keep stock of certain cards to deal with any situation. I know the spin option kind of deals with this issue by allowing you to spin for the card you need at the time in case you don’t have one but still, it just always feels like I have too many cards and have to keep dumping extras. Maybe its just nitpicking but who knows, perhaps its a nuance that would annoy certain other players too.One thing to be said about the game is that coins and cards are very plentiful so you should rarely (if ever) find yourself running out of cards. That should never really happen in your play through. In terms of difficulty, its easy for the most part but there are some head scratching moments where you need to think outside the box to get past certain obstacles or enemies. One example is the cooking part of the game. The guest provides you with a steak and you need to figure out how to cook it. You have to ‘tenderize’ it (one excellent hit with the large wooden hammer worked), then use the salt and pepper card, the grill card, and the lemon card. Luckily I did it right the first time but I dont know if there was an in game prompt to let you know what to d.
If you are skeptical about this game after the train wreck that is Sticker Star, stop being skeptical. This is an amazing game that only suffers from a few flaws. It is a great addition to the Paper Mario games.PROS:The humor is amazing and is just like the humor in previous games such as The Thousand Year Door. The dialogue is funny and charming throughout the game. Huey, your paint can partner, got a few laughs out of me as well. If you are a fan of the previous games because of their charm and/or humor, this is a must-buy.The world is vibrant and fun to explore. There are many different places in this game that all are distinct from one another and all hold some very cool surprises. The graphics are amazing! Paper Mario has never looked better, and I would love if they kept this style in future games.CONS:The battle system is better than Sticker Star’s battle system, but it is still similar, and the game would have been better if the battle system was like that of the first two Paper Mario games. Also, you get so many coins, that you can just buy the best cards and easily win any battle.
Before you read, know that this was the first Paper Mario game that I have ever played. Boy am I glad that I joined in on Color Splash!Music: I’m going to start this review and jump right into the music. The soundtrack is one the main reasons why I look forward to playing this game so much. The peaceful, feel-good songs will keep a smile on your face, especially the throwback songs like Mario Kart and the many songs from the old Mario games. Just play the music from “Cherry Lake†and you’ll see what I mean. :)Story: Others have noted that the story is not all that, but honestly it’s a Mario game. What did you expect? The fun gameplay in Mario games makes up for a thin story in my book. If I’m playing a Zelda game, you bet I’m going to expect an amazing story.Humor: The humor is nothing like I’ve seen before in a Mario game. The cheesy dialogue makes me (sometimes literally) crack up. The small cut scenes are also very funny and animated. You will love using Thing cards.Puzzles: The puzzles in each level are really fun to figure out but also challenging at the same time. I really like how unlocking certain items in boards are relevant to other levels. For example, in one level, you can’t even pass through a gate until you find hidden toads that are in other levels.Cards: The card plays can be quite tedious, especially if you run into many enemies in a certain level. I found that turning on advanced mode makes the cards plays a bit faster. Turn on advanced mode by tapping on th.
I loved this game. Granted, it will never be the masterpeice that is TTYD that moved us all, made us laugh, and gave us hours of pure joy.I am not sure there will ever be a PM game like that again. Perhaps they set the bar too high with TTYD (the thousand year door/gamecube paper mario) But, i still felt this game was really cute and had such a sweet ending. I love how these games make Bowser to be actually pretty cute. His end story of how he got black paint on him was so cute. <3But it is lacking in some areas. Not fond of the battle system and how you cant use stars special abilities like in TTYD. Not a fan of doing so many steps to use a card. I miss just being able to always use a plain ol’ hammer or jump attack if all else fails and you have no flower-power. In this one, you always need to have paint. Sometimes you cant even execute even the basic attack as well if you’re out of paint and only have unpainted hammers cards or something. Also dont like how you dont get a new partner with each area you go to. That added so much for me back with n64 version and TTYD. That was 1/2 the fun. Especially when there was secret characters to join your party like Ms. Mowz. The fun was in connecting to each of your party members and unraveling their stories in each level. I really miss that in this game.Though i do really like Shy-guys. They’re one of my favorite nintendo characters and i really did like how they were in abundance here in this game. And i loved at the end that yo.
Really like this game beings back memories from the original
not what I expected but my kids really like this game so 4 stars overall. there doesn’t seem to be a lot of excitement in the game, kind of confusing for little kids to navigate but ages 8+ seem to have no trouble.
For all the bad publicity this game got I was expecting it to be pretty bad. However all in all it turned out to be a pretty great game. It was lots of fun, not too challenging but there were one or two times where I felt the difficulty went way to the extreme. You could tell that the writers for this game kind of did whatever they wanted to. This game was snarky and completely over the top with it’s sense of humor but that’s what made the entire game fun.The only con I have to this game was the battle system. It was very cumbersome and required entirely too much effort for something I felt should have been playtested and streamlined a lot better than it was.In order to execute 1 attack round on enemies you had to… – Scroll through your list of 100 cards and find the ones you want (you can only use the Wii U gamepad touchscreen) – Swipe them up into one of your available attack slots – Tap to confirm those are the cards you want – color in each card if it isn’t already – Tap to confirm you are done coloring – Swipe up to confirm you are ready to attack – Finally, execute your attack movesIn closing, this game is fun and funny at times, and if it weren’t for the terrible battle system which made you want to sneak around and run from enemies more than fighting them, this would totally be a 5 star game.
My family really enjoys this game. It does have its flaws but over all, it is very much enjoyable and fun.Pros:- Graphically it is amazing to look at! The visuals effect and the whole world of pure "paper" is very impressive and nicely done.- Music sounds awesome! Very enjoyable to listen to.- The story and writing is done very well – it actually has charm to it. At times you will even get a good laugh out of its.- We all enjoyed looking for "blank spots" in every world to smack with the hammer to color them in.Cons:- Battle controls are by far the worse part of this game. When you get into combat you have to look down from your TV onto the gamepad. Then you have to scroll through 100 cards or the amount of cards you have currently and find one that best fits your situation. Then you have to select them and drag them up to the "hold slot" and hold them there to "paint them" ( make them more powerful – because most cards are blank – as in no color) Then when finally ready you have "flick motion" from the gamepad towards your TV and then Mario will act out the commands. All the while some enemies might even attack you. Not to mention that you have to do this 100’s of times as you progress through the game.
It’s a great game, love this system, as of 5/17/16 still don’t have the switch because Wii U still has the most, and greatest games
