This murder mystery game was a blast. The instructions are so easy to follow. As the host, there was little for me to do because everything was already prepared. The name cards were awesome and helped us remember who everyone’s character was during the dinner. The CD was a helpful and humorous guide that kept the game going in the right direction – and while a digital download would have been preferred, I had an old CD player and it worked great. The booklets and clues were easy to read and rely on.Here’s a suggestion to add some humor and fun to the game – my husband, who played the FBI character, downloaded a theme song off of his phone for each character, based on their personality traits, and played it as he summed up each of their motives at the end. Overall, I highly recommend this game, and will definitely be looking into other versions for future parties!
Says up to 8 players but the last 2 have almost no part in the game and ends up very boring for them. I highly recommend 6 players.
We had a group of 30 people for a dinner on Valentine’s Day and had a combination murder mystery. We had a great time and really enjoyed the murder mystery. It was very easy to understand and follow and every guest had their reasons for guessing which character they thought was the murderer. The only thing I wish was different was that in each character’s script, the last page tells if you were the murderer or not. I wish the MC of the mystery was the only one to know. I taped a paper over the last page until that evening when the reveal was and then took the paper off. Other than that, we had a great time.
We played with 6 people. I would not recommend playing with 8 as there are only 6 suspects. We all wore some kind of costume or prop that suited our character, some more so than others. We tried to get into our parts with accents, again, some more so than others. You want to invite people who can get silly and have fun with something like this. We started off around the kitchen island with a cocktail, guac dip and baked brie, then headed to our seats at the dining room table to look at our “booklets” and start the first round. We got a little screwed up at first and didn’t follow the proper order but it didn’t really matter. There are very specific instructions in the booklets telling you when to “STOP” and also letting you know what you should and should NOT reveal about your character, so as long as people can follow basic instructions, they should be able to play the game. I gave everyone a few pieces of paper for note-taking. We all scribbled furiously at first but after awhile, that went out the window. The CD narrator gives a review at the beginning of each round stating what the group learned in the previous round … that was a help. Before we started each of the rounds (3 total, then the reveal), we went into the kitchen to re-fill our drinks and get another round of appetizers or small plates. (Our menu was all appetizers and small plates … made it more fun than a formal dinner IMO. And easier. ) After a few drinks, it was a little harder following the.
My supper club did this last night for our monthly gathering. My husband and I were the host home. 4 couples for a total of 8 people and it was SO MUCH FUN! I highly recommend it. All but one of us dressed up, but even without dressing up it would’ve been lots of fun. Took us just about 2 hours w dinner, drinks, dessert to act out the whole thing. Even those who were not "into" it at first for into acting out the script! Directions are very clear on how to play. The only part that a few struggled with was some directions were worded in third person but then the character had to act it in first person…but out of 8 of us only 2 or 3 thought this was a struggle and once they "got it" we’re fine. :-)
Fun game but very intense to read and keep up with. Lots of dialogue makes it hard for players to actually enjoy each other. Too little clues to actually guess the killer. We used it for a teen birthday party. It was fun but it didn’t allow them to just relax and be themselves. It demands that you stay in character and read specifically from the prompt which can get a bit too serious.Only one “racy†piece of dialogue. Could change it easily to suit younger audiences. We had fun but I wish it hadn’t been so serious.
Was first time do I g a murder game and we enjoyed it. I felt as though all the characters were important. Unfortunately we had a guest not make it so we cut a character. Which sucked because they accuse another character.I’d like to let guest read prior so we could prepare/develope their character. Also at the end where we do accusations my suggestion would be to have the same person start each round. Otherwise we were constantly interrupting each other.Look forward to doing another one. We took about 2.5ish hours to finish. This included smoke breaks and bathroom breaks.
So, I finally went to use my cd/dvd (after the return time) to find that there was no information on the disc! How embarrassing it was to decorate my whole house, invite people over in characters, prepare a whole meal just to turn on the diak & nothing! Let tey another CD player; nothing, let tey another laptop, nothing; let’s try the WII, Nothing! I was so embarrassed!I hate that I waited so long to try the disc but the other one that I purchased worked just fine so I didnt think I needed to test it out. Boy was I wrong!
This murder mystery in a box was worth the price and unlike several others that we’ve tried in the past, actually is coherent enough to allow players to guess who the killer is by the end. The character’s are outlandish enough to be very fun to play if you have an outgoing group planning to attend but unfortunately is hampered by giving minimal enough details to players about who they themselves are while still keeping the possibility open that anyone could be the villain that it is hard to ad lib anything for fear of contradicting what will be written in the next scene. This leads the event to being a highly entertaining but still basically, dry read of a script. Also, for those planning to use the recipes and recommendations that will come with the kit, be ready to hunt for some hard to find ingredients and hope that you’re guests are as outgoing in their willingness to try new foods as they are with their costumes and characters because these are authentic Cajun recipes and might be hard to make if not already from the area.
The game is definitely what you put into it, meaning who you invite, decor, food, etc..Invite fun people, add great food, some decor especially beads, make your guests feel special, use your best Southern accent and yes…booze will make it even more fun. Accents are a must. There were some fun twists too. Don’t stick strictly to the script, ad lib, throw in a joke, wink and flirt. No one really knew how the game would work, so we just went forward taking turns beginning each chapter. I have a feeling you should probably read in order of the secret clues which are number 1-8.And since the murderer finds out that it is them self early on, I sent a letter to everyone saying so and that the murderer would have to put on their best poker face and sleuth and accuse so as to put attention on others. We gave this dinner party on April 1st, and I went all out, even sending teasers through the mail and email regarding accents, coming in costume, putting on your poker face if you are the murderer, and threw in some juicy gossip. Totally Southern menu…fresh squeezed juice Hurricanes, peach iced tea, good Bourbon, crab/avocado stack, spiced pecans, pickled okra, pimento cheese, chicken/andouille gumbo, voodoo garlic bread, a simple salad, bread pudding and cheesecake. We decorated the garage lights with masks and beads, the front porch also and a ‘Mask On’ sign on the door, bought a $6 Mardi Gras plastic mural for the entry (tacky but definitely fun), beads from the lights, even the bath.
