Having recently played through the first god of war I promptly went to retrolio.com and purchased the second installation. I was not disappointed, though I wasnn’t overly wowed either, like I was playing the first game.God of War II is basically a continuation of Kratos’ unending slaughter of the various contrived monsters of Greek mythology. The gameplay is similiar to God of War I, but with some simple improvements that I think, overall, have made the game a much more playable experience. What is good? The story, despite being a tacked on continuation of an ended plot is interesting. I was actually more drawn in to the plot of God of War II then I, and the accompanying cut scences were engaging. I’d comment that the story alone won’t be enough to keep you interested, but it certainly will suppliment the already fun gameplay.Which is… fun. Yes, the gameplay is fun, and for the same reasons as the first game. Nothing is really new in this department. Kratos is given more weapons, new spells, ect. And, to their credit, these new weapons and spells are more fun then the original games’ selection. That said, you will still only use your primary blades, due to their extensive variety of moves when compared to the other weapons. Beyond the superficial, don’t expect too much new. Some old annoying sections of gameplay have been replaced by different styles of annoying gameplay, and more puzzles to fill in content. It really does make me sad to think how obnoxious some o.
Kratos is at it again, the bald headed spartan anti-hero with a serious chip on his shoulder is back. For those of you that were fans of the original make no mistake, GOW2 delivers and in a very nice way. Although the gameplay is nearly identical from the first game (including the magical items which i thought were too much the same)it introduces a couple new elements that will still seem fresh but only for the first few times you do it. It pretty much turns into a button masher for the rest of the game and the combat seems so much like second nature you wont even have to think to pull off combos or counters, this kind of takes away from the game but something that is easily overlooked. The graphics are top-notch, the cinemas are top-notch, if this is indeed one of the last great games for the PS2 then it will surely be remembered. My only couple gripes in this story is the main adventure seems more like a clash of how many characters they can squeeze into it then having something that moved the character along like the first one. Sadly however the Journey is always more interesting then the destination. Still, if you own a PS2 this game is worth the price of admission. Even though it revisits many concepts from the first game, thats still miles ahead of anything else.
awesome game.
First off, this game has the best graphics comparing to any other ps2 games. It shows in some part of the game when you see screen tears. Not so noticeable and it doesn’t affect game play. However, it seems like the developers max out the horsepower in the ps2 system. The gameplay mechanics is still the same as God of war 1 which includes hack and slack and outrageous combinations that you will need against certain enemys. Some combos did change but it’s for the better of it. The game feels really smooth as far as story goes and there are even more Boss Battles than God of war 1. There are even more puzzles which can be confusing at times. Overall I would give this game a 5 for the challenges.
My sister and I really enjoyed playing this game.
God Of War II is an instant classic. Within the first ten minutes of game play I could tell I was in for a non-stop, highly interactive, blood soaked, hell ride. I was not disappointed. God Of War II picks up where God Of War left off, and takes you much deeper into the mythology of the epic struggle between Gods and Titans. Full of high resolution cutscenes God Of War II takes more time to tell you a story then it’s predecessor, yet without diminishing any of the action. Along with the high paced mayhem are some interesting brain teasers that will have you scratching your bloody head, not to mention some really cool bonus features you will unlock upon completion of the game. Depending upon which version you buy (I purchased the 2-disc version) you will get a bonus DVD taking you through the creation process of God Of War II which was very cool. In short I highly recommend God Of War II, unless of course you are opposed to heart pounding, adrenaline pumping, throughly intriguing, highly interactive, blood soaked, adventures. In which case this game is not for you. Do you have what it takes to be the God Of War? I did.
God of War II is a great sequel. It has an interesting story with great scenes. Despite it being on the PS2, it plays great on the PS3, cutting the load times, etc. And for a PS2 game, it has spectacular views, effects, etc.The game is a mix of battles, puzzles, and mini-games. It is challenging trying to figure out the problem, or trying to get special items. To take down certain enemies it sometimes utilizes a mini-game to accomplish the feat.Only seldom is the lack of camera control a problem. Mostly this occurs when a large enemy blocks your view of Kratos, making it hard to see what you’re doing. There are many different elements to this game, making it very enjoyable for repeat plays. Sometimes I find myself going back to see if I can defeat a boss/puzzle quicker.
Part 2 of the series just added to the awesomeness that is God of War. New weapons and new button mashing moves. This game kept me busy for a good amount of time. Went out and got a ps2 to play this one and the 1st one just to prep for god of war 3.
Fun
I just beat GOW II and I just have to share my experience. This is one of the rare sequels that surpass the original in every way possible, in terms of game play, graphics, storyline and totally deliverers in the balls to the wall action department. Some of the reviewers on this page complained that there were too many puzzles which I totally disagree with (it’s not as much or as hard as you would think), I appreciate a game that makes me use my brain and slow the pace down after a tough session of slicing undead soldiers and ripping off gorgons heads. Another point some reviewers mentioned that it is too short. To me the GOW II is about twice as long as the original with brutal bosses (it may seem short if you played on mortal/easy mode). The environments are beautiful and huge total kudos to the art team on this game some times I had to stop and marvel at some of the views. The music is cool but I miss some of the sounds from the original that’s the only complaint that I have. This is a game that no PS2 library should be without. NUFF SAID!!!
