I bought this game for my 3 year old grandson. With a little help in the beginning, he was able to play it. He enjoys it!
I bought the game, because it was the right price, my 4 yr. old son likes to watch Diego on TV, and he had watched the movie on which the game was based. I knew from reading the reviews to not expect the game to be in the same caliber as Mario Brothers, but, come on, I have to say I was a tad bit disappointed, and I’m not even going to get into graphics or other technical details.First of all, it is a good game for pre-schoolers. My son truly enjoyed it. My problem is that he finished the game in a matter of few hours. I don’t usually watch my young kids play video games, so I thought his 9 yr. old sister “helped” him maybe too much. Not so. I asked my son to play the game again, and I watched him play the game through, with his sister helping only when teamwork would be more effective. Now, to be fair, the game did offer more challenges to my 4 yr. old niece, and there’s no way she could have finished the game, without someone helping her every part of the way.So, if your child is a gamer like my son, save money and just rent the game at Blockbuster. I gave the game 4 stars, because, even though it failed to offer my son hours and hours of playing time, he giggled, laughed, and jumped up and down in excitement, when he played the game. That to me is worth the price I paid. And it was a Christmas present. Who knows? Maybe he’ll play it again.
Perfect for a younger child (mine are 3 and 5), learning to use the wii. Good esteem builder.
Our 2 1/2 year-old is already a little gamer, and loves playing games on the Wii or iPhone, but we didn’t have any Wii games that he could completely do on his own (he always needed help with setup, switching levels, or just playing in general). My husband read the reviews on this one and bought it, and within a week he had mastered the controls and beat the game on his own. We just had a new baby so it’s nice to have something that he can do for 15-20 minutes while the baby is being fed or whatnot. Even though he has beaten it, he doesn’t mind playing the same parts over and over. From an adult’s perspective, the game looks incredibly boring, but for a young kid I think it is perfect because they feel awesome being able to do it well without much frustration.
When our son got interested in trying the Wii when he was about 3, I looked high and low for an appropriate game for him. This was the perfect choice. There is enough variety to make it interesting but it is easy for him to play by himself. Even if your child isn’t “into” Diego, I think they might enjoy this game. The story follows one of the Diego episodes in that a witch has turned the elephants to stone and Diego and his friends have to break the spell and help a variety of animals along the way. The on-screen instructions are easy to follow … my son was able to pick it up within 10 minutes. There are several options on how you can play the game (races, story). The frustration level isn’t high enough to prevent kids from enjoying themselves but it is challenging enough that they won’t find it too easy. Hats off to the developers for creating a game that is just perfect for children ages 3 to 5 who want to play the Wii like the big kids.
I will start by saying my 3.5 year old does love this game. He has fun playing it and the actions necessary to complete the tasks are age appropriate, but I fear he will get bored with it soon. One con is that Diego goes through the adventure with Baby Jaguar, but you can’t control Baby Jaguar. There is a helper option in the adventure mode, but the options to use it are too infrequent for a child to play as a second player (it is designed for parents to help with tasks, not 2 player play).Another issue is the safari adventure play option is VERY short. Even my 6 year old made a comment “Wow, I think you did the whole thing already, that’s weird”. We finished it in a few hours of play over one weekend. Compared to the depth and effort put into games like Mario Space Galaxy and Lego Star Wars, which are only $10 more, the simplicity of this game is a little shocking.Besides safari mode, the only other mode is racing. Races take 1-2 min to complete and have only a single ‘track’ for each race with no increasing levels making it boring. In my opinion this game sells preschoolers short. Compared to games for other systems geared to preschoolers (think Leapster or V.Smile). They could have added so many more game options…. but this game delivers just the bare minimum.I’ll end on a positive – my son does enjoy this game and thinks it is fun. I would recommend it as a fun game for the 3-5 crowd, it is way too simple for older kids. My main complaint is quality vs. price. If you ca.
As the family got a Wii for “our” birthday (4 b-days in 2 weeks), we got this for our daughter who just turned 3, because its about all we could find for her age. She can already play reasonably well, though I’m sure she doesn’t understand the overall goals (like gathering seed for an ostrich or taking lion cubs home). Nevertheless, she can manuever Diego, and that’s really all she needs to do. Like I said, she just turned 3 (and really has no video-game experience beyond the computer), so an older 2-year- old or one who has done games with other controllers may even be able to do this.
Bought it as a gift for a five year old. Instant hit.
When we got the Wii this Christmas for the family, I had concerns about appropriate games for my 3 1/2 year old. While smart, she doesn’t quite have the coordination to use all the buttons on the remote for most of the Wii games. I read the reviews for Diego Safari Rescue and took a chance. She had the controls mastered within a few hours and loves playing a game like her older sisters. The graphics aren’t too overwhelming and there is enough interesting “tasks” to occupy her for hours. She has really enjoyed playing it.
