   No doubt about it - this one is the driving game I was waiting for all these years. Pure fun. The best thing about it is the control of the car. This is the first game I know where you can throw your car into a turn and easily control your skid using your handbrake and steering. If you're skilled enough it really feels like 'sailing' on a concrete road. Unlike other driving games, the brakes here are very strong, and when you hit the brakes, the car really stops. When you pass all the missions on the 'undercover' section of the game, you get new cars and cheats enabled, which, of course, increase the fun level. Some of the new cars, combined with the 'super fast cars' cheat can go in speeds up to 300 mph. Not so realistic, but very much fun. The control of the car is, naturally, much more difficult in those speeds (In San Francisco you spend much of your time airborne).As for realism, this is a whole other thing. The graphics is quite good, but some things don't make any sense, such as: - People drive on highways at the same speed they drive on roads inside the city. - Cops get angry whenever you touch your handbrake even if you're standing still. - Cops keep blaming you for hitting other vehicles even when your car is flipped over. - I've never been to the US, but I can't imagine all the turns in New York, Miami, San Francisco and Los Angeles are right angled. - The other cars on the road are very much robots-like, and they will slam into other cars even when it's easily avo.

   One of the first driving games I played and fell in love with it almost immediately. The graphics is much more akin to that of a cartoon with enhanced layers. The story of the game is original that would eventually be carried over to the next two installments. Its gameplay is by far the first of its kind at the time of its release.

   I got this game to be able to justify my PS2 purchase, I'm glad I looked here. This game is probably one of the best ever. People say, "Oh, it's nothing compared to GTA3." The thing is, this game and Driver 2 inspired GTA3, so therefore, this game pioneered the 3-D gameplay that we see in all current GTA games. That is saying something.

    Sliding around a corner, in a boat of a car, feels like it does in real life. The reaction of the car's suspension, steering, acceleration, braking is like no other driving game I've played. The graphics suffered, but the driving made up for it, in my book. They went wrong with this franchise, trying to be like GTA. They should have gone the Gran Tourismo 2 route, which had like 780 cars to choose from. GT also screwed up their franchise after GT2.

    I have enjoyed this game since before it even came out. Funny thing too. I was in 8th grade when I read about Driver in a magazine in my school's library. It sounded great, I picked it up when it came out and had hours and hours and hours of fun. (Some frustration when failed missions, but it wouldn't be a challenge or much fun if it was too easy!) I recently bought my first PS3. I've been dying to get one since before it was released, but the price was nuts for years, not to mention being a college student means your broke almost always, lol. Anyhow, I decided to buy a classic in hopes to enjoy it some more.--OSXniCKels

    This game has meaning to me, i remember playing it with my best friend on weekends for ever, plus it holds meaning to me, so my review will be biased. Quite possibly this is one of the greatest driving games ever made, much better than the sequel, this game is the best. The driving is awesome, the graphics considering the system is 32 bit, are awesome. This game is like i said without a doubt one of the best driving games around.

    Well, basically if you read this entry i won't bore you with exactly what goes on in the game ( i believe the other reviewer's interpretations and retrolio.com's review is accurate enough). basically i would like to comment on 2 things... 1....this is a game that other developers should follow. in the sense that i am i tired of racing games that don't allow u to have a muslecar.. test drive was ok, but the fact is....the car were boxy and ugly and it was just bad...no free-roaming the cities like you can in driver. that's what sets driver apart..the fact that u can drive around wherever the hell you want without contending with tracks. we need more games like this but with more licensed musclecars....charger, mustang, gto, roadrunner, cougar...etc. have a game like that and i would be in heaven and 2. this is just a question but on the back of the box, one of the screenshots shows a yellow musclecar in the streets of miami. i have played the game exhaustedly and i still haven't found it...anyone want to write and tell me where i have to to get that car? thanks. and get the game if u haven't already

    This game, along with other PSX classics like Ridge Racer 4 and Tekken 3, probably soaked up to half my free time in my freshman year in college. This is a classic game and deserves all the recognition it gets. There aren't many other games where you can drive thru regular traffic and T-bone a cop car just for sh**'s & giggles. Plus, the music is funky and true to the era the game takes place in, and so are the movie cuts and the cars...speaking of that, anybody whining about the poor handling of the cars apparently doesn't understand physics : Hello people! a near 2 ton 71' 454 Chevelle is going to hug a corner like a 97' Honda Civic! It's called weight distribution, look it up. Cars of the 70's era were like that, it's called authenticity and i'm glad the programmers did that. The graphics aren't the greatest, but just wait till Driver 3 comes out. One complaint is you can't run over people like Grand Theft Auto, but oh well. There is great attention to detail in other places, such as the locations, as far as I know, most of the streets in San Francisco are true to real life. Other great details include your car losing its hubcaps if drive to aggressively (ala the movie Bullitt). All in all, this game has classic written all over it, and is probably one the best games for old-school Playstation fans.

    To start things off, go for Driver 2, but if you want to play the first one, here are some Pros and Cons. Gameplay is fun and there are plenty of missions. Also, there is visible car damage.But, graphics are BAD. You can't steal other cars in levels (but you can on Driver 2). If a cop sees you he will come after you, even if you do nothing!? So, like I said, go for Driver 2, but if you really want to try this one out go ahead, it is fun.

    I like this game, but it is hard to get started! No game should start out with a "drivers test". The test is not an easy one, and a person should be allowed to get into the game, without having to prove they can! This is where I have problems with this game. What, you are allowed to play, such as car chases etc. is pretty fun and sort of realistic! I think a person should be allowed to just play the game,and not have to prove that they are allowed to!!!! I'm sure, some people reading this will scoff and say that I am not a good gamer, but I've been playing video games for 16 years, and never have had a hard time starting a game like this one! If there is some shortcut to starting this game (like a code), I've never seen one listed! Anyone who has, please contact my at dean1949@email.com

    I got this game because I wanted a good street-arcade racer where you could just drive around smashing into things. I got what I wanted. Driver includes four real US cities (relatively accurate in street layouts) complete with traffic and police who generally want to smash you up because you've broken the law. The traffic is fairly realistic, going so far as to have their own accidents occasionally and honking at you for reckless driving or nearly broadsiding them.The free play option, as I like to call it, as opposed to the actual storyline is a much better use of the game. The storyline itself, while originally a good idea, is rather vague and becomes repetitious. In addition, the final mission is impossible. Let me repeat that. The final mission is impossible. Read it and weep.Of course, one of the really big fun factors is being able to customize your replays. The replay editor allows you to position various cameras from all kinds of angles: in car, chase (from full 360 degrees) and various stationary cameras which can be told to follow your car as it goes by or not. Make sure you have a lot of memory cards if buying this game. You'll soon fill up your spaces with saved replays (they take two blocks each).The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because of its poor storyline, impossible mission, and its tendency to freeze from time to time.     Well, as a lot of people have said, the reason they got this game waas because they heard it was the best game of the year. THta's the same thing here. And while it wasn't quite as good as I expected, it's still really fun. I mean, what can be so bad about climbing a hill going over 100 mph, being chased by 4 cops, then reaching the top and just plain flying. Yup its beautiful. also, its fun skidding around, outracing and outmanaevering cops, or just plain ramming into them or busting through a roadblock of cops. The only bad part of the game is it's lack of replay. While the mini-games are fun, all the missions are similair, with go her, pick up something or someone, then taking them to the hideout. Also, while there is a plot, it's held together very thinly wth low quality movies, and hard to understand voices, and just forget the story. Also, just drivimg around with no cops is pretty boring, but still isn't as bad as it sounds. Also, you can direct your own replays, which looks seriously cool. So it's fun playing this game for a little while, in fact, a lot a while, but still isn't quite perfect.

    Ever wondered what it would be like to run from the police instead of just pulling over when those pretty red lights are in your rear view mirror? Well Driver lets you do just that. You are the wheel man in this great game. You start out as ex-stockcar racing driver who is hired by the local law enforcement to go undercover and infiltrate the local organized crime. But when your hired, it seems as though your boss forgot to tell the rest of the force you were a good guy. You begin in a cheap hotel room with a decent ride sitting outside, a car similar to a 69' camaro. You get Jobs or missions by answering the telephone in your room. These consist of anything from giving someone a ride, driving your car through the front of a store window, or even being the get away man for a bank robery.Driver pretty much gives you total freedom to go anywhere in the city you are currently at. The controls are very simple to learn, but for anyone who wants to realy experience this game I would advise buying a steering wheel, it realy enhances the game play. The actual game is pretty tough, the police can downright be insanely tough to get away from. The graphics are wonderfull, providing great eye candy around every corner. While you drive around, the game records your every move letting you later on make a movie of your most recent drive. The options in this director mode are wonderfull. Enabling you to recreate those cool car chases from the old 70's and 80's flicks like ".

    I played this game when I was young. I remember having a blast with it. So I decided to get it again.I had forgotten a lot about the game but I still enjoyed it as much as I did when I was younger.In order to start everything you have to take a driving test. If you have no idea what to do (because it ask you to do things you probably won't understand) it has a tutorial. It took a couple of tries and I was on the road.It has a main story line that requires you to do driving jobs and make yourself known in the criminal world. The story itself isn't bad but not great.There is other ways to play. Things like time attack, dirt track, and my favorite survival.The graphics held up pretty well over time. Considering this is a PS1 game.Oh the film editor which allows you to create your own replay is a WONDERFUL idea. Something that seems to be ahead of it's time.

    This is the very first driver game to come out. It is a very fun game at the begining because u can do anything that u want to. However u cannot get out of ur car but it is fun to drive around and destroy things. The graphics r not that good but it is an old game even for the ps1. The cops r hard to get away from but that makes it challenging and fun. Not trying to make fun of anybody but the cops r fat too so it is so funny to watch them get out of their cars and walk around. I would tell more but it has been a long time since i have played it because it broke a long time ago. This is a great game that started it all.

    If you are just reciveing just Playstation or Playstation2 buy this game. It is the best car game you'll ever be able to buy. With an undercover mission you can get many cities throughout the USA. You start out with Miami and San Fransisco. Then as you beat more Undercover missions you'll soon get Los Angles and New York. The Missions get harder. But the hardest are at the end. You have a possible option to cheat and on the last phases you can't pass them without cheats. So buy this game for your own good.

    This is the best car game ever made. I get so bored with typical racing games. This brings a whole new dimension into video games. To me, the most fun part about this game is just taking a drive through the cities. It's so great to be able to drive however you want without having to pull over every time you hit somebody. They did an outstanding job in making this game.

    This game is so much fun that you just can't take your hands off it. It has a fun game engine- in the style of Destruction Derby(but much better). It has fun missions that are just great. Then there's replay value which it has plenty with the driving games option. But of course, there's one problem with this game. I can't beat it! In fact, I haven't met one person who has beat this game. I know it's beatable. I almost did it once. But it takes cheat codes or a perfect run to beat this game. And that's almost impossible. One day I will beat this game. Another drawback to this game is the corny storyline. Though it connects everything and explains a lot of stuff, it kind of gets corny at times. And I mean really corny. But it is needed to understand what's going on behind the scences. It does add something to the game. So I guess it is cool that it's there, I just wish it was better acted and better written. MTV can do a better job than these guys did on some scences.

    This is a very good game.The graphics are pretty sharp compared to Driver 2 and the gameplay is good and realistic. The cities are pretty well detailed and pretty accurately portrayed. The levels are numererous and are hardly ever boring. The cut scenes may be a little cheesy but they only add to the experience. I would say to anybody who is considering getting Driver 2 to get Driver first its much better.

    I owned this game on PC soon after it came out, and believe me, there's not a more fun title out there if you love to revv around a city in a vintage 1970s car in the "Take a ride" mode. As for the story mode? Who knows -- the ability to just get right into it and drive like a madman while cops chase you was too fun, and I never touched the story mode of the game. Why would anyone?

    "Driver" is the realization of any driving fanatic's dream, which is to get behind the wheel of a flashy car and speed through a crowded city on a joyride, avoiding cops and other pitfalls. Even without going through the story mode, you can have fun exploring the well-detailed cities, and perhaps ramming a few cars off the road in the process.In terms of graphics and sound, this game excells at both. Despite some pixilation and bleed-through, the graphics are fluid and fast-paced. The music is funky, 70's era driving music, just the thing needed when attempting to outrun three police cruisers. The story mode takes you through four cities: San Francisco, Miami, Las Angeles, and New York. You are the driver for a mob cartel, and you must get your clients to and from their various jobs. You must get them there quickly, safely, without getting caught by the cops or wrecking the car. My biggest complain about this game is the horrible "Driving Test" that you must complete before engaging in the story. You are given 60 seconds to perform various moves with the car, and you have to do them all. It took me about 30 attempts to get them all right.The best thing about "Driver" is the intricate attention to detail. The car shows damage just like a real car, and you even loose hubcaps at sharp turns. The cities are huge, and well detailed. You can cruise through Chinatown in San Francisco, speed down the ocean-side expressway in Miami, or tear down Wall St..

    IF you have never played Driver then get it. Basically Driver is Grand Theft Auto except you are stuck with the car you start with. Four cities (Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York.) are in the game. You can drive around each city without playing the actual game (Though you have to unlock LA and NYC) The game is the Undercover mode and out of all the missions the first one (Parking Garage) is the difficult and took me three days to beat it and it caused much frustration but the kind that makes you want to keep trying not the kind that makes you want to quit. Once you get past that it is not so hard. It is great riding around famous cities being chased by cops working with criminals. EVen better is the ability to make your own movie from your chases. Then you could chase someone or even race this game has a lot of options and will keep you busy for a long time.

    This is a fairly decent game that has aged very well. But the difficulty curve will turn anybody off no matter how much they enjoy the rest of the game. The first mission is a trial run that serves as a tutorial without actually telling you how to perform each of the desired moves AND you have to complete it in under a minute. I spent a solid 30+ minutes trying to accomplish this. Then the rest of the game is actually fairly easy.... until you get to the final mission. Seriously, I spent well over 8 hours worth of failed attempts on that last mission. It just hits you out of nowhere how difficult it is compared to the rest of the game. There's 0 preparation for it anywhere else. And before I get blamed for taking a star away for being inept at the game, a very quick internet search shows that a ton of players have the exact same complaint regarding this game. It's an almost universal sentiment that the game begins and ends with insanely difficult missions and takes a massive dip in difficulty for the body of the game.

    Driver is one of the best games ever made.If you don't own this buy it!.Ok first they test you in a parking lot and if you pass you go to Miami if you beat that than San Francisco and if you beat that than Los Angeles and again if you beat that level you go to the last New York city the best city ever!.Over 40 missions and the world tade center are in it that cool.I love the game and I can't wait for driver 3.YOU ARE THE WHEELMAN!
