I paid roughly ten dollars for this before shipping. I got roughly 23 hours out of my first playthrough, trying to do most of everything. But as with the Origins core game there are different decisions you make which opens up some doors while closing others. So I definitely see myself playing this again sometime. The story, while not good as the initial Origins story isn’t terrible. Now in Amaranthine, you’re pretty much rooting out the last remnants of darkspawn. However, it’s much more than this but I won’t spoil it for anyone. Some of your decisions (only a few actually) from the initial game will have certain events happening in Awakening in certain ways. Even if your Warden made the ultimate sacrifice you can still use him or her. You also have the opportunity to create a level 18 warden from Orlais. With the exception of the dwarf you get all new companions that you can customize. You get two rogues, two fighers, and two mages to choose from (should you recruit them all). They don’t stand out as much as your companions in DA:O, but they aren’t so bad. Each class gets two more specializations and new abilities. There are fun new abilities for weapon specializations too. Unfortunately some of them are very powerful. By the time your character is high-level he or she may be overpowered. My first run through this expansion was done in hard difficulty (all the way through). The graphics, sound, and gameplay are pretty much the same.I suppose I might’ve been a little irked at.
What else can you say other than this is the extension of one of the best RPG games ever made…
I love this game, very fun to play. Out of role playing games this game is at the top of my list!
I played through a new character in Dragon Age Origins before playing this expansion, Awakening. It allowed me to import the character from Origins and the process worked perfectly. My armor, weapons, inventory, skills, etc. were all there. There are two new specializations for each of the three classes. Also new skills, spells, etc. A few of the characters form Origins turn up also. That was a nice touch. Obviously, being an expansion pack, it is not as long as the original game.My only real complaint is there needs to be an option to add a second quick bar above the first. With characters at such high levels there are just not enough slots available for all the spells, skills, potions, etc. Also I think there is way too much loot. Magical weapons and armor don’t really feel special because there are so many of them.I have to wonder if many of the low ratings given to Awakening are by people who paid the original, list price for the product. At the current price of less than $10 it is a bargain. I would highly recommend it to anyone who played and enjoyed Dragon Age Origins. (of course you need that game to be able to play Awakening)
This is not a standalone game. You must have the original Dragon Age Origins installed. Luckly, it was on sale too. The game itself is great! The best way I could put it is your watching a movie and get to chose what they are going to do and say.Download and instalation was very easy.
I have played this game over and over . It would not play anymore, so I had to buy a new one. Electronic Arts puts out very good games.
This game is just epic. I enjoy playing it when I have down time. The graphics are awesome, although I was there was a little more animation on the different spells. I just love this game.
Back when Bioware knew how to make great games.
Overall, a better game that the original. The ending was….abrupt, but the that’s my only gripe. Great characters, improved classes and gameplay from Origins. Must play!
This was a good continuation of the story in the Origins game. The ability to reconfigure the characters was an especially nice touch. One thing I find wanting is the lack of being able to open chests without the rogue. Still, I would recommend anybody who enjoyed the first game to purchase the add on.
