Quick delivery, my husband hobby when he’s not at work or running errons is to watch and collect movies. This is another addition to my husbands collection. Love our movie nights.,
One of the Best Action/ Adventure Movies ever! Steven Spielberg is an amazing story teller. And this widescreen DVD brings it all to such a wonderful, clear, crisp, movie watching experience. John Williams’ score is a character in and of itself. I can’t imagine not having the widescreen version and perhaps missing some of the imagery that Spielberg so cleaverly put together to keep us on the edge of our seats. You won’t go wrong with this triology. Though I must admit the bookends of Raiders and Last Crusade give credit to the saying “2 out of 3 ain’t bad”. Not sure what happened with The Temple of Doom, but it is “filler” between two incredible movies in this trilogy.
Superb condition of entire pack. It’s every bit as good as the new ono I purchased years ago. That one I loaned to my grandson and it wasn’t returned.
…let my armies be the rocks and the trees and the birds in the sky. Well, what can you say? “The Last Crusade” contains some of the most memorable lines in a Hollywood film outside of the often quoted “Casablanca”. You get everything in this film! Nazi troops, Hitler and Himmler at a book burning session, incredible escapes and coincidences, “does anyone here speak English?” Marcus Brody, “This is how we say goodbye…in Austria and then in Germany”, A “lucky” lighter, A Scotish Lord arriving to see the tapestries, a new use found for a bust of Hitler, and.. TOO MANY TO LIST!!! A great Father/Son picture. An interesting and entertaining movie by far and was perhaps the best of the triology but I think that it may be due to our familiarity with the character and those around him. “The Temple of Doom” starts off with a big Chinese Firecracker bang and should have continued with it but incredibly slows up to meditate on Indian philosophy and spend the rest of the movie in India and other poorly lit locales. The most memorable part of the film is perhaps the “Dinner” in Sri Lanka, and why is there always a “Colonel” present at every function from the British Empire with a Red dress uniform? Great stuff! Outside of that it is moody and full of darkness and features an overbearing/worldly before his age/ Asian kid as a partner. The legend of “Raiders” speaks well of 30’s movie stereotypes that we have all come to expect. Hostile natives in South America with blow pipes, suspicous.
So finally we can look forward to Indiana Jones IV and they’ll scrub complete from this version. It’s all here, the first marvelous moments where everyone seems like a bad guy (pistols, whips, poison, etc.)The final ride into the sunset of friends.Spielberg’s direction pushes this nostalgic cliffhanger formula into a higher plane of enjoyment.Ford plays a man of action who is really an easy-going scholar until you get him riled up. Then, BAM!The secondary characters are generally even more effective and charming than the leading man.Lucas and Spielberg tried to dodge the ‘curse of the sequel’ with the “Temple of Doom” and it almost works, except I don’t feel engaged by the plot. The leading lady is a huge thorn in the side throughout, none of the characters quite develop as you want them to.The story misses much of the “gee whiz” factor. But ‘Last Crusade’ more than restores the zoom and boom of the genre.Nearly an instant classic, catch the widescreen version.
This is a nice boxed set. The additional "Making of" disc was also very interesting. If you can get it cheap enough, GET IT. These movies do not hold up as masterpieces, but they are all fun to watch on a rainy Sunday afternoon. If you’re like me, you’ll get an abrupt urge to watch "Raiders" and I was shocked to find it wasn’t available on Netflix nor did I have a copy of it. Now that I have the whole set this won’t happen again!"Crystal Skull" is not included, but it’s not really in the same class as the original three movies.
This four disc set contains three classic action movies and one disc loaded with bonus material.Up first is “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” In it, we meet our hero, archeology professor Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford). Indiana isn’t just a classroom professor. When the right opportunity presents itself, he heads out to the field in search of some priceless artifact. This particular time, he’s searching for the Jewish Ark of the Covenant. But he’s not the only one on the trail. He has to race the Nazi’s around the world to uncover its hiding place.Next is “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” Set a couple years before the first movie, Indiana gets stranded in India when an attempt to sell his latest find goes bad. The only way the locals will give him directions out of there is if he retrieves their sacred rock from a nearby temple where a cult uses it in some horrid practices. Finally comes “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” When Indiana’s father (Sean Connery) goes missing, it’s up to Indiana to find him and the Holy Grail before the Nazis do.All three of these movies are fun. They are filled with lots of action, yet the story holds together. “Raiders” is easily the best of the series. Everything was fresh and new here. “Temple of Doom” is the weakest of the lot. It is darker in tone and the story wanders a bit more. Things definitely improve with “Last Crusade.” Sean Connery is funny as Indy’s dad, and that dynamic makes it seem fresh again. For years, this set.
What can I say about the Indiana Jones movies that hasn’t already been said a thousand times? To me, they are the cornerstone of what a good adventure movie should be. Suspenseful, humorous, exiting. Great characters that touch your heart, raise your spirits and fire your blood. What more can you ask for?I don’t know if I should be the one to recap the trilogy. As I’m sure many others have done, far better than I can. But, on the off chance no one has, I’ll give it a go.RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARKWe meet the daring and intrepid archaeologist and adventurer, Indiana Jones, who is on the hunt for the legendary, Ark of the Covenant. Jones must find the lost Ark before the Nazi’s do. Aided by ex-flame, Marion and site digger, Sallah, Jones manages to find the Ark, but not before the Nazi’s find him. It then becomes a game of keep-away between Jones and Belloq (rival archaeologist and Nazi tool). Can Jones keep the Ark AND the girl? Both of which he loses more than once. Jones must brave fire, poison, a snake infested Egyptian tomb and a host of meddling Nazi’s. Will this adventure prove too daring for our hero? (Since there are two more movies, it obviously doesn’t.) Will he recover the Ark? And, more importantly, will he get the girl?THE TEMPLE OF DOOMThis movie starts off with a bang. After barely surviving poisoning, a nightclub brawl and a high-speed car chase through the streets of Shanghai, Indy is marooned in the jungles of India, along with pint-sized sidekic.
The answer is simple. If you don’t have either collection, do you want the improved visual quality of the new set, or do you want the bonus disc from the first set? They’re the same movies, so if you love them, you’ll probably be happy with either set. If you’re a bonus feature lover, you’ll have to pore over the details about the bonus features. I chose this set because the special features were on each disc instead of a separate one and the other reviews said the picture quality was better (which it is).I was more interested in the actual films because I love Indy and really just wanted the set. Once I got it in the mail, I was very happy with it because each movie is in a slim case instead of the bulky normal cases and they fit in a cardboard sleeve that isn’t much wider than 2 normal DVDs (the slim cases also don’t have inserts like normal DVD cases). It’s an attractive set, maybe not as nice as the original set, but it still looks good. The movie quality is great visually and sound-wise, so again, you have to decide what you want from your movie set before deciding which set to get. If you already have one of the sets, it may not be worth it to get the other one, since one copy of the trilogy is probably enough. So the question is, what do you want from your DVDs? Of course, there’s always the option to buy the cheaper one…
These are all wonderful movies. The original films were each and every one of them classics. Each of these movies moves along at breakneck pace with a well-thought-out storyline, great acting, great direction, perfect special effects, and the works.I didn’t get much out of the "extras" with this set, but who cares? The DVDs are of ultra-high-quality and look great on my 40 inch Sony progressive scan TV screen. Let’s be honest: Harrison Ford, Sean Connery & Co. are so good in these films that "extras" are not needed. I’m sure many afficianados will enjoy the various extra features, but to be honest I’m just into the movies. They are great!!The wonderful thing about these films is that they have aged not just well but superbly. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" has as much impact, wonder, and adventure as it did when I first saw it in the theater in 1981. The same goes for Temple of Doom and Last Crusade. We’ve all been waiting for this set to arrive and here it is!
