Released in 2003 as the Irak War and its propaganda intoxicated worldwide medias, especially in America where government leaders encouraged soldiers and Americans to be patriotic and defend their country; or else society would label them as anti-Americans, “Beyond Good and Evil” came out during this troubling war frenzy and terrorist witch-hunt.Although the game had started its production years before that political turmoil, its storyline took a stronger and more serious actuality as events in our reality unfolded.A story involving Jade, a freelance photographer-reporter who takes care of orphan children whose parents were victims of the Domz. Aliens that have declared War through the galaxy and started to attack Hyllis, Jade’s planet. Soon after the game starts, Jade receives a new reporting contract that develops into something more political. A deal that asks her to go through borders beyond what the press is propagandizing to the Hyllians; into the Alpha Sections quarters, a military division that is supposed to defend them. Uncovering a truth that hurts and which she must expose to the population, along with who are the real heroes and allies in the Domz War. Ending with a twist that reveals another secret.Although the game is in English, it can be played in many languages. In particular French, which I decided to use as the game was done in France and because it also offered an excellent voice casting of people I recognized in French cartoons and Anime adaptations (ex:.
This game has a very important theme. Don’t believe everything you see, read, or hear. The voice acting is top notch. The characters are very likable and unique. Jade is a fantastic, multidimensional protagonist. You really begin to care about the world in the game. The game is a mix of several different gameplay styles, which sets it apart from other games. Without spoiling too much, I’ll tell you that you will not just be jumping around like in a regular platforming adventure game. There are shooting sequences, racing sequences, stealth sequences, and even photo-taking sequences. Yes, photos- Jade gets a camera and you must take pictures of animals to earn income. It’s an interesting way of doing so for a game. There are also hidden, rare animals that earn you a very large amount of money, so even after you’ve finished the game, there’s replay value for you to go and hunt them down for a photo if you’re a completionist. The music – I don’t recall any pieces that stood out as amazing, but it certainly wasn’t terrible. The developers of the game tried to make the world of the game very multicultural by including words from all sorts of languages. You will hear Spanish, French, and of course English in various musical themes in the game. If you are a closed-minded xenophobe you will probably be annoyed by this. I personally thought it was cool! The graphics were really great for their time. Despite how old this game is, the age honestly does not show. The developers really did a g.
I learned about this problem and thought I should post something.I just dusted this classic off to play on my new computer that has Windows 7 64bit. And it doesn’t work. Being an old pro at this stuff, I figured I could simply find a quick work around online, but surprisingly there just isn’t one. The game uses a 32bit copyright protection check at the end of the install. When it encounters the 64bit system, it fails and deletes the game. The only way to play it in 64bit is to download a newer version that is compatible with 64bit systems. retrolio has a download that may work. Steam sells one that has been verified to work.Hopefully this issue won’t keep too many people from playing it. I went ahead and downloaded it off of Steam for $10 (which is actually more than I paid for my hard copy), but it is worth it because it is just a great little game.
It’s so unfortunate what happened this game. When it first came out Ubisoft decided they were’nt going to put the dollars behind it to promote it. Such a let down. The game itself is fantastic. The story is great, the characters are engaging, and the sense of exploration is amazing for how “old” this title is. The world feels alive, and you don’t feel so alienated. There are some fun mini-games and a bunch of upgrades to collect.I originally owned & played this on my PS2. Then i bought it for my 360 when it was released as a download. Now i’m buying this for PC is play it yet again (to refresh myself for the next installment BGAE2, which is supposably coming out on the next gen-consoles). Cant wait!
Sometmes a game gets everything right the first time around. Beyond Good and Evil is such a game. It has been marketed without any ruour or buzz, and that’s a real pity, becasue this is just a great little game. A gem.I’ve played every adventuregame there is out there, and many of them are a real pain. Badly made, badly acted or badly rendered. Black Mirror springs to mind, Road to India and even Uru (Myst4) got many things just wrong. Then BGE appeared out of the blue.First of all the art direction is just amazing. The colour palette used is extremely nice – it’s eye candy all the way. Then the gameplay. It’s a sort of hybrid game, with actionsequences, some racing, lots of exploring and some stealth and puzzles. The figthing is never very difficult and serves to get your adrenaline going. When you ‘die’, the game let’s you start again at the beginning of the sequence, so you can try till you succeed. It makes for a nice change every now and then after an hour or so exploring. The racing (with a hoovercraft) is cute. It’s not difficult either, and with the effects (especially the water) it is so beautiful that you never get tired of it.The exploring is so much fun, it makes you want to wander around forever. The atmosphere is great, this games immerses you from minute one.BGE is not very difficult – I would recommend it for beginners and more advanced gamers alike. The heroine is instantly likable, without the obvious qualities of, say, Lara Croft. Jade is very lovable, and y.
I really like the game but I have not download it to validate that it works with Windows 10.
The learning curve isn’t too bad; I was playing smoothly in 15 minutes or so.Beyond Good and Evil has a great story line, and you get to have a boat right off the bat, and later you get to fly around. I actually found myself too high when I was practicing how to do it. I found myself (I am scared of heights, it gets to my head) getting anxious. I was saying Oh My Gosh! And then it happened again. ..SO fun.You go around taking pictures of different creatures and puzzle solve to progress through the game. The puzzles are not so hard that the fun factor leaves you. I liked the fact that if you died, you would start from the room where you died; you don’t have to go through the whole section again. The game has many saved areas so the stress factor is small. It has been said, “It is the greatest game that no one has played” I agree it is one of my favorites.I love RPG’s and sometimes to get a variety out of my game play I will play a Zelda or Mario game. Here you will have a unique experience in this RPG;I will always remember playing this game. It was so different from anything I have ever played; it is not a long game but it is a fun game from start to finish.
i find computer games compelling, but generally disappointing. beyond good and evil starts to really approach something special. it doesn’t entirely make it but perhaps goes farther than any other game i’ve tried and i’ve tried alot now. i’ve rated it based on criteria important to me below which i think will explain.Story: B- it starts out great and is an interesting sort of fantasy sci fi story. compared to other games its great, but when you hear people talk about games with a good story, or that it’s like playing a movie, think twice. this is never true, and bg and e is no exception. the premises, world, and characters are well set up, but never fully padded out. the conclusion is not terribly satisfying and things are not really made to have full sense or clarity in the end.Characters: A- everyone is at least somewhat charming and fun to look at, even more minor characters, with distinctive looks and personalities. the voice acting is top notch and that helped alot too. and everyone (outside of villains) was really kind of sweet which was refreshing and nice to experience in the usual grim world of these games. it reminded me of grim fandango in this way.Gameplay: B very fun mostly with a nice amount of diversity that i think is crucial to a game like this. hovercraft racing, sneaking (which i usually don’t like too much but found manageable and somewhat fun here), an inventive little table game, picture taking, fighting and so on. some parts better than others. fight.
There is a reason this game has cult classic status. Great story, great character, BUT controls can be terrible making later in the game next to impossible. That being said, worth every cent I spent and every second I spent playing it.
My kids enjoyed playing Beyond Good and Evil on our Playstation 2 for many years. Recently one of my kids wanted to play the PC version, and the cost for media was amazingly high. It was much less expensive to download a copy from retrolio. The play on his PC has been good, at first there was some issue with video, installing an updated video driver resolved the problem.Beyond Good and Evil is a classic game, and can be a lot of fun. It is more of a mystery / puzzle game, with some combat included. This isn’t really a FPS. If you enjoyed the Sly Cooper games, Beyond Good and Evil may also be enjoyable.Graphics and overall game performance indicate it’s very dated, but still enjoyable.
