Great collection of Neo Geo games, and great price considering some of these games went for 200 dollars when they were originally released. I’m glad they put more than just the usual fighters on here, because games like Magician Lord and Last Resort deserve to be played. The loading times when switching between games are longer than some other games for the PS2, but they’re not unbearabe. I can’t wait for volume 2, and I hope it’s the same mix of genres.
Underrated company SNK did it the right way. Mostly.Besides the overpriced ahead of its time technology they tried selling in 10 stores total worldwide back in the 1990’s,SNK was always a stigma for being the poor man’s Konami & Capcom combined, but it didn’t mean they wouldn’t have a few SNK hits once in a while.IMO, this is the best compilation you can buy for any system. 16 games isn’t as much as 20 or 22 like some other compilations out there, but when at least 10 of these games ‘still got it’ , the diversity of the title selection, & just how good looking these games are today compared to other 80s and 90s hits that didn’t age so well, you have to check this out for yourself. These guys weren’t cheap. Quality games, wish they had added King of the Monsters 2, & some other fighters, but overall will not disappoint. Baseball Stars is fun baseball, not much of that nowadays in gaming. unless you go for The Show, which, i don’t. Change the difficulty if you need to here, & take a trip through time with underground hits like King of the Monsters, Shock Troopers, Fatal Fury, & more.Even has some wannabe ps3 achievements waiting for you to beat, to unlock the cheese that is ‘World Heroes’ another SF alternative. Fun times, trust
Over the last few years since SNK’s surprising rise from the corporate ashes, the long running game company has released some anthologies of their more celebrated titles on their 1990’s arcade game machine Neo-Geo. To date they have released World Heroes Anthology, Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 1 & 2, Metal Slug Anthology and the Art of Fighting Anthology. On the horizon are a King of Fighters Anthology and a Samurai Showdown anthology (YAY!!!!).Why am I mentioning this?Well, it’s due to the fact that SNK has included the 1st World Heroes, Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, Samurai Showdown, Art of Fighting and Metal Slug games on the new SNK Arcade Classic Vol. 1 for the PS2 and PSP. Being that this collection has 16 games on it (you have to unlock World Heroes BTW), 4 (soon to be 6) of those games are already on other anthologies that hardcore SNK fans have already bought. That leaves 10 games (Baseball Stars 2, Burning Fight, Last Resort, King of the Monsters, Magician Lord, Neo Turf Masters, Sengoku, Shock Troopers, Super Sidekicks 3, Top Hunter) that someone owning the anthologies wouldn’t have already. So who was this collection targeted to? I’m guessing the more casual classic games fan that might want more of a sampling of what SNK had to offer in the 90’s instead of diving into the individual anthologies themselves for some of the gamns. However this will have some people like myself buying a collection of 16 games that has 6 on it that I already own. Also, there is.
SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 is a collection of sixteen SNK coin-op arcade games that have been ported to the Playstation 2. The games included on this collection are: Art of Fighting, Baseball Stars 2, Burning Fight, Fatal Fury, King of the Monsters, Last Resort, Magician Lord, Metal Slug, Neo Turf Masters, Samurai Showdown, Sengoku, Shock Troopers, Super Sidekicks 3, The King of Fighters 94, Top Hunter, and World Heroes. Unlike many collections of this nature, this collection actually contains no sub-par games. While each game may not be a classic like Metal Slug or Samurai Showdown, each of the games are interesting and warrant being replayed. As far as the port end of things, each of these games has been transfered to the Playstation 2 in a way that makes them look and feel just like the arcade originals. Although, the Playstation 2 ports do add a rapid fire option, which can be a life saver for some of these games. Overall, this collection is a wonderful buy for fans of SNK or of retro arcade games and at such a good price, it makes it even better.
classic past retro video games i want play it i see past of video games i like it cool awesome
SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 is a collection of sixteen SNK arcade games for the Playstation 2. The games that are included in this collection are: Art of Fighting, Baseball Stars 2, Burnning Fight, Fatal Fury, King of the Monsters, Last Resort, Magigian Lord, Metal Slug, Neo Turf Masters, Samurai Showdown, Sengoku, Shock Troopers, The Next Glory, The King of Fighters ’94, Top Hunter, and World Heroes. While they didn’t have a great ammount of sucsess in the home console market, but in the arcade Neo-Geo/SNK was one of the kings. Thankfuly, this collection contains a majority of classics and only a couple of filler games. However, even the filler games are pretty decent games. Each of the games seems to have retained the arcade look and feel. While they may not be a big name of the video game industry scene these days, this wonderful collection helps remind us that for a time few companies could match Neo-Geo/SNK in the arcade.
This collection has 16 of some of the best Neo-Geo games ever released. At first I was in awe, but after putting them in and playing, it hit me like a ton of bricks that these aren’t the premiere games that they once were. The graphics have aged and the some of the games are simply beautiful “NES” games. I mean, the graphics are better than NES games but the mechanics and strategies are basically the same. Wizard Lord, Burning Fight, etc. You’ll be over them in 30 minutes tops.Though they are still a great collection to have. The only thing was that after I unlocked “World Heroes” my favorite game on the collection (more for nostalgic reasons than anything) the memory card said it was corrupted and then I had to try to unlock the game again. I believe turning off the game while in session might do this to the memory card similar to how it did for the Sega Genesis collection.
Very good and somewhat nostalgic collection of games collected for the PS2. For the most part you get unlimited continues with each game and three levels of difficulty which I have yet to look into adjusting. I bought it for the nostalgia and to have some interesting games for my PS2 since I have not yet been convinced to buy a PS3. For the purposes I bought it for it has sufficed admirably. Although a secondary reason is still aways off as I intend to give my nephew an education in video game history when he gets old enough to play these games.
I was one of those few who owned a Neo-Geo home system back in the 90’s. Had a blast with it. But ever since selling the good ol’ Neo-Geo and my prized collection of games, I’ve been waiting some time for a miscellaneous collection of the Neo-Geo library. Well here it is.I am very pleased. Still remember paying 250+ plus for one new game. In this collection, you get 16 games for 20 bucks or less. Is everything perfect? Of course not. The speed of the load/save feature is a little slow. Wished there were more background material. Also, I would’ve replaced some of the older titles with newer ones. But otherwise I will not let some of the small details get in the way of my enjoyment of this collection. My personal favorites are Neo Turf Masters, The Next Glory, and of course, Metal Slug. The oldest game in this collection is Magician Lord(1990). The newest is Shock Troopers(1997). You’ll notice that the programmers really learned how to utilize the power of the system in the later years to display graphics with much more complex level of shading and detail when you compare games such as Shock Troopers or Metal Slug to a game such as Burning Fight.Hopefully, SNK Playmore will address some of the minor issues in future collections. Otherwise, don’t hesitate to get yourself a copy to re-experience the “mega-power” of the Neo-Geo.
Love it
