Awesome game.
This is kind of battle chess with a lot of creative functions, and I think one of those great NES games that sort of went under the radar. The only drawback is that the 1 player version is far too easy after you’ve learned the game – the “computer” is too easy to beat. 2 player is a blast though…If you are a NES collector, this is a must for your collection.
Havnt played enough for a complete review but purchase upon recommendations and its a neat game. Like interactive fantsasy chess. Cool battles after moves and fun graphics and music. Happy to have this one.
In this mixture of strategy game and action game, you command a force of mythological creatures led by either a Wizard or a Sorcerer. Your pieces are arranged on a chess-like grid with a few squares highlighted as "points of power." You move your pieces around, jockeying for position; you win by either wiping out the opponent’s force or by controlling all of the "points of power" at once.Where Archon differs from traditional strategy games is in its combat. Pieces do not simply capture on landing; instead, the two creatures are dropped into an arena where they can use their special powers and attacks to fight in an action minigame. This provides a balancing factor for the strategy aspect; a player skilled with the action sequences can potentially turn the tables on a player skilled with the strategy. One warning: while Archon is a lot of fun for two players, against the computer AI it always seems to be too easy or too hard. The flaws in the computer’s technique are pretty obvious and easy to exploit, and if you don’t play dirty and exploit the bugs you can’t win. So, you really only want to pick this game up if you have two people to play it.

Love this game when i was younger play it to this day holds up well. Can beat the pants off the computer so this game really needs another player. happy rage quits all.
Ive enjoyed playing this game so far. It plays similarly to chess, but with interesting strategy ideas thrown in. For example, the health of your troops depends on the color of the square. Most of the pieces have different attacks that are usually melee and projectile. The objective is to take over the 5 power points with your troops, or kill every enemy troop. All in all, its and interesting game for a boring weekend. Grab a friend, lot more fun killing your friend’s pieces XD.
