The game arrived in time but was not home when delivered so it was sent to my neighbor and got it the next day. It was worth the wait, everything on the game was in excellent condition. The best RPG game ive played in a long time since The legend of zelda ocarina of time and majoras mask. This game has a huge world to explore and the scenery is crisp and colorful. The game play is also easy to learn well if you have played other similar RPGs. Ive put in over 24 hours and i got the game like 7 days ago and ive barely 1/4 the way to finish the game. you have a main quest to do, factions quests to do and side quests and tasks, it can be a little overwhelming if you have not ever played an RPG but once you know how to create your weapons, armor and potions it will suck you in. I would recommend this game to anyone who wants to immersed himself in a fantasy action adventure.
Well, let me first start by saying that when I began this game, I really, really, really didn’t like it; I thought it too much a Dark Souls-Skyrim-Dragon’s Dogma rip-off.However, I was bored enough to continue playing. And, at the fifteen hour mark, it started to catch and it all made sense; sure this game takes many of its components from other highly successful RPGs, but it does it in a style completely all its own.It can get extremely overwhelming at time, especially when you’ve got 3 main objectives, 25 side-quests and 5 to 10 tasks, but I’ve simply controlled my rate at which I take on quests so I don’t get overwhelmed and confused.Of course, this game is far from perfect; the bow and arrow system (auto-targeting) is weak (in my opinion), and the map is a pain in the buttocks — not to mention how difficult and confusing it is to switch between quests and the map. I also hate how you have to destroy items (or sell them) if you fill up your inventory; although this is nice later in the game if you invest in the “Mercantile” skill, then, you get paid for every item you destroy (and anyone who’s played the game knows you do A LOT of item destroying in the beginning).Graphically the game is beautiful, although a little “cartooney.” Personally, I prefer more realistic looking RPGs, e.g. Dark Souls. Regardless, this hasn’t affected the fun or playability of the game. So, in a nutshell, this game’s a slow starter but really grabs hold when it counts. It’s fun, entertaining and w.
As far as Action RPGs go, Kingdoms of Amalur: The Reckoning has the potential to compete with the industry giants, and in terms of gameplay, it very much crushes its competition. However, the incredibly weak storyline and inconsistent visuals make it a no more than above average adventure, falling not too far behind Skyrim and Dragon Age.The Good- Super fast, responsive combat- Huge game, a ton of content for the money. The Bad- Unoriginal and uninteresting storyline and characters- Graphics are a mixed bag- Awful voice acting and dialogueLet’s get the bad out of the way. In my opinion, the success of an RPG is largely measured by the story, the characters, by the immersion the world creates. I’m willing to overlook weaker gameplay elements (ehm Skyrim) if the world is engrossing and makes me feel like I can make an impact. In TheReckoning, the story gets off to a good start. During the opening cinematic, you die on the battlefield and soon find yourself waking up on a pile of dead bodies. You are re born as the fate less and begin your journey searching for answers. This is as good as it gets. Beyond the premise, the story goes nowhere. You will spend 30 or maybe even 100 hours (depending on how many side quests you choose) doing repetitive fetch and kill quests, which include mini boss battles every now and then. Even after establishing your status as a hero amongst the townsfolk of Amalur, you are still left with the exact same quest structure, where only a few missions re.
I generally enjoy third person action games, some of my favorites are the Batman series, the AC series and the Mass Effect series. I couldn’t sit through the Lord of the Rings movies and anything with magic and dragons and wizards loses my interest in a flash. That said, this is a great action game. The world is huge and there are a ton of things to do. The gameplay and the fighting mechanics are great, though the game does have framerate issues during heavy battle scenes. I basically ignored all the potion-making and magic stuff and leveled up the soldier attributes and had a great time. A little over 20 hours to finish the main quest and a bunch of the side missions, and there is a ton of stuff left to do. So action gamers, do not be put off by the dungeons and dragons thing going on here, you will enjoy the game as I did.
First I would like to apologize if my English is not top-notch, French is my native language.Ok so I will start by saying what KoA is: an immensely fun RPG game which leans towards beat them all. The fights are very different from what you would see in an Oblivion or a Skyrim. You have a main weapon, a secondary, magic powers, and you basically switch from one to another to destroy the thousand of enemies trying to bash your head. I wish there was a bit more variety in the combos, but variety of weapons and magic compensates. One very important advice: play the game in hard mode from the very beginning! Even for casual players (I consider myself as one), most of the fights are just too easy. At least in hard mode, you will be forced to use a few potions, switch between weapons and magic, etc. Problem, is, once you reach level 25 or so, the game becomes even easier. So yes, start in hard mode, consider it the normal mode in fact, don’t let the word “hard” scare you away.So one of the big strength of this game is the sheer amount of stuff you can loot, build, craft, etc. You have gems to socket in armor or weapons, components to assemble at a forge to make new gear, ingredients to mix to make potions… There really is a ton of stuff to do in Amalur to personalize your avatar. There are some minor (to me at least) problems with the crafting system (salvaging gear doesn’t give you great components and forces you to save/load if you want the best possible), but globally the system.
I really like the game. There are s few things that make me give this 4 stars instead of five though:1. When a character asks for you to follow them and stand there waiting for you to move so that they can follow YOU (which is why it’s really nice to have the map around, but even then I can get lost)2. In one location, you could be fighting, like, 10 enemies at once3. When you complete one quest, you get twenty more (which is great because it keeps you busy, but also bad because you don’t remember all of them)Those are my complaints. I really like that you can save the game and just load from there when you die, though just know that when you are engaged in battle, saving is not an option, and I get why. I also like how you can customize your character down to their–if you’re a girl playing this, or a guy who prefers a girl character–eyeshadow. You can choose what you want to say and get different results. It’s a great adventure game and I’ve been playing it for maybe over 2 weeks now. It’s definitely my kind of one-person game,
This is a very good game. I bought all the dlc and enjoyed it all. I even bought a second copy of the game for when ps3 games get harder to find just encase something happens to the first copy i bought. Bottom line if you enjoy rpgs get this one IMO it is highly underrated and one of the best rps the ps3 has to offer. while i don’t want to compare this game to Skyrim (so different) i Will say i have spent 240+ hours on skyrim and about 100 on koa And have enjoyed koa much more. at this point everything in skyrim is so repetitive yet i am still learning and experiencing new quest and lore for koa. very very fun. a must buy if you own a system it will play on.
I’ve played hundreds of games in my life, first on the PC, now on the PS3, and this is my absolute FAVORITE game ever. You can customize your character – male/female, race, looks etc.You can customize what you will specialize in (or just be a jack-of-all-trades): warrior, magic, rogue (thief/sneak), etc.The graphics are amazing (check out the ocean views on the cliffs)The story is interesting and involving, (and you can be ‘evil’ or a do-gooder, it’s totally up to you)andThe fights are hard but not impossible.Oh – the music is good, too.Best of all, the game world is HUGE and you can fast-travel back to the magic towns/etc. at any point in time after you’ve initially gotten there. There are literally hundreds of quests (in addition to the main quest) but you can pick and choose which ones you want to do. The rewards come but not too easily. Oh – and the bosses are COOL. Really cool. Quite inventive, lots of imagination went into this game!My ONLY complaint is that you can’t go over Level 40. Wish you could. Just wanted this to go on and on and on…and yes, I’ve played the add-ons for this game, too (there are several, which take you to ancillary ‘worlds’ with a separate main storyline and separate mini-quests).I LOVED this game. I am disabled and can’t do a lot physically but boy this kept my brain interested and occupied for hours and hours and hours! If you want to be involved in a story and feel like you’re really ‘accomplishing something’ (OK so it’s only a game, but you ge.
My brother is playing this and is 300 hours in. Watching this game is the most enjoyable game to watch someone else play EVER. More so than even PS4 GOW. It’s amazing. We both think 1,000 hours is possible of content if you do ALL the side quests, etc….shame the developers went BK and lost the rights to it….curt shillings former company. curt hit a Grand Slam with this game….thx buddy!! Us fans appreciate it. The graphics get better farther into the game….amazing gameplay effects and the camera action. GOAT contention all platforms. That good. Mass Effect 2 previously held that title for me…..
I have been playing this game on my PS3 now for more than a week now, and have been loving every moment. I feel it successfully combines the classic character building and quest aspects of an RPG with the button mashing of a fighter or a game like Fable. The thing about the mashing though is that while you can simply mash away, you can also incorporate strategy and positioning into the combat situations. When is the exact perfect moment to unleash a chain lightning spell, then close in while the enemy or enemies are stunned and finish the job? When should you blink out of danger only to immediately ambush the same critters with meteoric fire? Although you do mash buttons, the better you get at combat, the less you do so, and more you use selective mashing to accomplish fantastic things. The setting itself is vibrant, lush, and colorful, and as you travel through the various lands, the geography changes accordingly. There is forest, swamp, high desert, coastal settings, etc…The story itself is very entertaining, and the characters within are fun and cool. You definitely feel the classic Salvatore writing style in full effect here. While things play out in ways that any person can attach themselves emotionally to, things also end up larger than life.I haven’t finished the game yet, but my character is level 30 at this point. I will update this as things progress, but i can say with confidence now that this is a completely engrossing and thoroughly enjoyable game, and i am lov.
