Definite PS3 classic. Rockstar can’t fail. Brilliant story, and the multiplayer is fun. Love that this version has the expansion included. I don’t remember if it included both maps – I already had the Undead Nightmare map from originally purchasing it separately.
Rockstar Studios has a real knack for creating huge, immersive, do-what-you-will games. The atmosphere is nearly the strongest I’ve ever felt. Every single item feels in place on your screen and even the ones that detract from the immersion (HUD elements such as the crosshair and map) can be disabled. The music and voice acting are spectacular, and the animations are so life like, I almost feel bad for gunning down the criminals, because it’s such a beauty to watch them fall. This get’s a 9.5/10 from me.
Great game. Lots of fun. Great gift. My son loved it
For me, it feels something like Bully, a Rockstar classic game, except it’s in the wild west & no kissing with girls. I struggled early on with the game, couldn’t get the hang of riding horses until much later & gun duels I didn’t get good at until I read from online forum posts and after I actually finished the main storyline. It’s a wonder I could ever get through it.But somehow, I actually enjoyed it and got addicted to it. It’s not as strong as Rockstar’s main game series, Grand Theft Auto, but it certainly has it’s charms despite the flaws. Hunting animals, gathering herbs, bounty hunting, treasure searching and then selling them is the game strongest selling point. Sure, it has storyline that makes you hooked and interesting, unusual characters but that’s Rockstar’s trademark in just about every game they make. It’s the little things that actually shine through this game. Like playing Blackjack, a mini-game available in the game, I actually got addicted to it eventhough I only made a few in-game bucks from it. That’s one example. Other things such as the unique encounters made the game feel like you’re really in the wild west – it can get annoyingly repetitive sometimes but you can choose to ignore it.And that’s only the main game – Undead Nightmare, the included companion single-player game, literally changed the wild west upside down and for me, unfortunately, it wasn’t enjoyable. In Undead Nightmare, the wild west is littered with zombies, insane folks and silly jokes.
16yr son loves this game.
I bought this PS 3 version based on the excellent reviews. First I want to thank you all for giving the pluses and minuses. Now first let me say that although I have played PC games since Adventure (those that know will tell you it was first or certainly one of very few that started PC gaming). That said I’m not a young player, probably one of the oldest. I went into this game because I love Westerns, especially the old Spaghetti Westerns. I wasn’t disappointed. The fantastic graphics, sound effects, and music make this worth the money alone if you just want to see and hear the old West. I have only played this for a couple days so far (so many hours the first day I paid for it in my joints) and here are my pros and cons so far.Pros:Great value for the moneyExceptionally gorgeous scenery, graphics of people, animals, and environment are amazingly realisticRealism and variety of all weather conditions is phenomenalSound effects for weather, animals, and other environmental sounds make you feel you’re thereNumerous voices in dialogue, monologues, and background chatterIncredible depth of possible exploration and open game playMost controls you will use to interact aren’t difficult to master (walking, riding, shooting, etc.)You can play this the way you want to play it and survive most the time (one example is you get by okay by just picking plants, hunting, and skinning and then selling what you hunt and gather)Great fun majority of the timeCons:Some of the quests are dif.
Great game. Very addicting.
Fun game. Graphics are not bad considering how old game is. Bought it to play this first then RDR2 on ps4
biggest map I’ve seen of any game I’ve played.(might not be big in overall dimensions. but overall reachable areas) Am few hours into it. missions are interesting. all DLC is included in GOTY. and whats the best thing about it. so many side missions that are actually fun to do. what is the last time you were excited about doing side missions?. you can try to capture or kill WANTED outlaws and many other things. just the map itself is huge to explore. its around the size of GTA IV map. maybe a little bigger. but unlike GTA IV. its all explorable fields. not giant buldings that just take space. and you don’t have super fast cars. but you have horses. but they’re very quick. faster than some cars.Just Finished this game. One of the best Video games I’ve ever played. so well made. it has quite some minor glitches. but nothing game-breaking. its fun. its just one of a few games I wasn’t bored of at the whole time I was playing. full on content. and Yet I still have the Undead Nightmare expansion to do. It took me about 16 hours to do the story mode. you might be able to finish it faster. I did some side missions. they were fun. unlike other game’s side missions which are basically fillers. this game is worth playing and everybody should get it. its even Better than GTA IV, i have to give this game that. if your reading this review and you haven’t bought this game. stop reading. and go buy it. its that good. definitely one of the top 5 games I’ve played this gen.
So, I have been playing games for a long time and really love PC gaming. One of my favorite genres is the old west and the game being open world. When Red Dead Redemption came out it fit both of these bills perfectly along with one major caveat, it was not offered on the PC (arrggg….). So, I waited and waited…and finally gave up on Rockstar ever porting one of the most desired games to the PC. I can tell you up front that I hate using controllers since they are no where as precise as a mouse, but to play I would have to make this compromise. So, I purchased the GOTY edition and have had a wonderful time – it is an awesome game and one of the best games ever made! The one item that almost drove me nuts was the inability to turn off the skinning & looting animations (it almost challenges the definition of insanity), disabling the animations should have been an option.
