Dude I’m 42 and I remember playing this game for hours!!! The game play is similar to Blaster Master. In that, there were two methods of gameplay: shoot-em-up & scroll hunting. Kick-butt game, playarz!!!! Now that retrogaming is so popular with the Gen X crowd; get this game!!! U will not regret it!! Oh yea, one flaw. The password matrix wuz way way too long!!!Atomic Rooster Collectables Rochester NY USA CCG
I absolutely love this game. It’s my all time favorite nes game. So much fun, not overly challenging, and the music is really good as well. I don’t have an nes anymore so don’t have it but I’d be really happy I’d nintendo released this wonderful, yet under appreciated game on the wii u eshop =)
Play it you will get lost
awesomeness!
Take the best parts of Legend of Zelda, Metroid, a vertical space shoot-em up, very smooth and fast responses to the controls, make a single game out of it, and then fail to advertise it at all. That is “The Guardian Legend”. This game has excellent music, a variety of bosses, a map that actually tells you where you need to go for the next major boss (ignoring dozens of minor bosses on the Zelda-like walk-around map), and also serves as your special weapon selection screen. As an RPG, your score also doubles as experience, meaning your shield strength goes up at certain scores. You use energy chips to power special weapons, and as a side effect the more chips you have, the more powerful (and faster) your main gun shoots.Look up this game on Youtube to get an idea of what it is like, and you will realize what a disservice Broderbund did to this game. As far as I can tell, there was no advertising done for it anywhere. Once you’ve played through the start of this game, you will understand why this is a shame. The only nitpick is that the password to continue your game is 32 characters long, composed of upper case, lower case, numbers, and symbols. Fortunately, it includes a password check screen, where you can test the password you just wrote down to make sure it is correct, without that affecting your game in progress. Other than that, you will get hours of enjoyment out of this game.If nothing else, hold down A+B, then reset the NES. You will get to the music test screen.
Works perfectly and outside appearance was exactly as described.
Yes this game was a favorite of mine back in tha day…im 30 years old now and i can remeber the sweet transfoming of your character before heading into space. Both flying and walking were fun and made me a instant addict. Just like my other favorite, Blaster Master..for all of u 30+ year olds, u know what i’m talking about…..but thats another review. This game had a nice graphics, music, weapons, and challenging.. a must play for u NES old school heads.
There is so much to say about this game, from its password-type saving (Primitive, but a feature too many games of such an epic scale lacked), the versatility of weapons, alternating game play types to its excellent map and useful hints/story, this is a game any NES collector or vintage game enthusiast should not miss. You play as the Guardian, one of a very select number of heroines from the NES age, who is a cyborg with the capability of upgrading her attributes and weapons in humanoid form, as well as switching into space-ship mode for outside (inside?) exploration of the ship. Whilst inside (outside?? This is the one thing poorly explained) the ship, you roam around Zelda or Metroid style, finding power-ups, stores and save stations along the way that mark your progress and give you a password. Whilst outside, however, you are flying Gradius style, shooting anything that comes into your path and fighting epic bosses, each with their own weapon weakness and difficult patterns. Unlimited continues and frequent-enough healing items make this game challenging, but fair.Pros:Good storyExcellent and varied game playIntuitive mapPassword systemCons:Password length and variation (32 characters. Yeesh)Awkward hit detection in humanoid formSave points instead of on-demand or death-passwords
Classic, but overlooked NES game. GET THIS ONE! I felt so strongly about this game, I did a video review. Check it out at the link below:
Great music, over a dozen upgradeable weapons, lots of minibosses, 20 bosses, 1 mega-boss, what’s not to like? This is a very replayable shooter for the NES.
