The emulate games span multiple genres and consoles—from the Sega Genesis to the Sega Saturn. And retain the features and errors of their initial releases with minimal edits. And player progress is reward with demos of other Sonic games, videos, and promotional artwork spanning the history of the Sonic franchise. While its 2002 predecessor, Sonic Mega Collection, comprise the more popular Sonic games, Gems Collection focuses on more obscure games, such as Sonic CD and Sonic the Fighters. Also other non-Sonic games are included. But some, such as the Streets of Rage trilogy, are omit in the Western localization.
However, developer Sonic Team conceive the compilation to introduce younger players to older Sonic games. But one game they wish to include, SegaSonic the Hedgehog, was exclude due to emulation difficulties. And Sega release Gems Collection for the GameCube and PlayStation 2 in August 2005.
Moreover, reviews were mix or average; critics were divide over whether the package would satisfy players. They prefer Sonic CD and Vectorman, but found Sonic the Fighters and Sonic R mediocre, and dislike the Game Gear games. Also some were disappoint by the absence of the Streets of Rage games in the International version and other Sonic games like Knuckles’ Chaotix and Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure.

I like this game bc it has all the classic Sega Sonic games, which were great. The reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is that you cannot exit one game and go back to the main menu to select a different one. Each time you finish playing a game and want to go back you have to reboot. Severely annoying. I guess that is good though if you are a purist, b/c the games actually run on an emulator so it is exactly the same game / graphics you will remember from the old days.
I still have trouble getting all the emeralds (they won’t let you get away with cheats this time), but that doesn’t stop me from thinking this is excellent. If you miss the old days of Sega Genesis, feed your nostalgia jones and get this!

this has EVERY SINGLE SONIC game. what more could a lover of this classic game want?!?! i played it until my eyes burned. so much nostalgic fun.
If you arent aware yet, this is a compilation of classic games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Spinball, and other Genesis titles. The games that are unlocked at the start are:Sonic The HedgehogSonic The Hegehog 2Sonic The Hedgehog 3Sonic and KnucklesSonic SpinballDr. Robotniks Mean Bean MachineSonic 3D BlastAll of these games are perfectly fine and run great on my GameCube, but those aren’t all of the games. You can unlock the following games:Knuckles in Sonic The Hedgehog 2Sonic 3 and KnucklesFlickyRistarThe way to unlock those games is a bit weird. There aren’t any codes you have to enter to get them. Instead, you have to play other games 20 or 30 times each to get them. That doesn’t sound bad at first, but when you start a game, it has a little loading screen and then saves a "Record Log" which basically saves how many times you have played that game. In order to unlock Sonic 3 and Knuckles, you have to play Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles 20 times EACH. That really doesn’t sound bad, but once you try to exit the game to start your next "play" of the game, there is a loading screen that takes about 10 seconds each time. You wouldn’t notice this when normally playing the game, but when you’re constantly exiting and entering the same game 20 times in a row, it gets pretty annoying. In order to unlock most of the others, you usually have to play a couple of games 20 or 30 times each. But in order to unlock the best game, (in my opinion), Ristar, on the compi.

This is truly amazing to have every genesis game of Sonic on a single cd for GameCube. They don’t call me the Speed Demon for nothing, topping out 30 mph…..yes no lie and my biggest insperation to such speed over the last, fast 13 years is Sonic the Hedgehog. I was fast back in 2nd grade but then I met Sonic, when he was first introduced into this world, with the games like Sonic the Hedgehog 3 I wanted to be like my new hearo and became faster. Many Great games including Sonic 1,2,3, Sonic & Knuckels(4 so to speak) Sonic Spinball and Dr.Eggman’s Mean Bean Machine, which I personally don’t care for ( not exact name of the name of the game, I just used Eggman’s name) It also has a very fun game called “Blue Sphere”,which you have to unlock which is too easy to do. They say to play the games included to unlock these secret games but you don’t have play them exactly, I won’t spoill it though you’ll have play and see, sorry. The unlockables I will unvail, they include “Blue Sphere” which is, on the old system the result conecting Sonic/Knux to Sonic 1 & pushing all 3 buttons down at the same time. “Sonic 2 & Knuckles”,”Sonic 3 & Knuckles” (my favorite) both of these connecting games and a new game not of the Sonic world “Rystar” a very fun game.(sorry no details it would take too long) it also has Sonic 3D blast. These and extras like scrolls on game guides, comics VIDEOS(ohhhhh…ahhhhh) which are fantastic man! Not to mention the animated menus with awsome music too them ohh.
To my son its your favorite game, because offer a every levels to play. For me its back to my childhood and can play with my son again this excellent game.
