A unbeatable classic of the PlayStation exclusive franchises since the dawn of the PlayStation One. Sly Cooper and the Gang give you a story you’ll never forget. There’s so many memorable characters and moments from this series and this game specifically that will live with you. There’s the all-around, do-it-all, go-getter Sly Cooper, a raccoon with some serious stealth skills. There’s the brains of the operation, Bentley, a box-turtle that’s smarter than half the people you’ll meet. And lastly there’s the brawn of the ordeal, Murrary, a hippo with a occasionally angry, but always humorous disposition. Not to mention the villians/enemies and others such as Carmelita Fox (a Fox police inspector), Dimitri Lousteau (an Iguana that is a member of the Fiendish Five gang), Sir Raleigh (a frog with a bad attitude), Muggshot (a bulldog with anger issues), and Mz. Ruby (a Haitian Alligator that is seriously tripping on her own supply for sure). Not to mention the ultimate boss, Clockwerk, and the prospect of saving the Theivious Raccoonus from the Fiendish Five and learning the techniques used by your raccoon ancestors in their elaborate heists. Certainly a must-have for any collection.
As far as gameplay goes, Sly Cooper and the Thevius Raccoonus is a great mixture of stealth and platforming across a variety of environments including a massive wrecked ship, a mesa town full of convicts and illegal practices, a necromancer’s lair deep in the Haitian Jungle, and many more. Each of the main 4 stages will consist of an entry level which leads to a small overworld, and 4 separate levels to go into at your own pace. The main goal of the levels is to collect the key at the end of the level, and by collecting 3 you will unlock the second part of the overworld which contains 3 more levels, for a total of 7. You need to collect all 7 keys to progress to the boss fight, which is normally not an issue save for a few examples, like the abnormally hard racing minigames. One of the few complaints is that the minigames that make up some levels feel out of place and in each subsequent level, increase in quantity until they match or outnumber the core stealth/platforming missions.As far as quality goes, pay very close attention to who you’re buying your copy of Sly Cooper from. Go to the “buying options” menu, and manually select a shop to insure you’re getting exactly what you want. If your package arrives and unexpectedly is missing the case and the disc has had dicks drawn on it, it’s probably because you didn’t actually read the description of the object. My copy came new, shrinkwrapped and everything because I specifically chose a new copy.By default, retrolio tries to gi.
One of the best games ever!
Sly Cooper is easy to control even though he has lots of moves. When he does his spin jump and lands on a small point he actually gets the job done. No jumping and crashing as in Mario Sunshine. Sly’s cane is very handy as it wipes out bad guys and allows him to jump from airborne hooks. The graphics and locations are colorful and original in design. the music is pleasant and appropriate. The boss battles are challenging but not impossible. Kids and grownups alike can enjoy this game equally. The gameplay doesn’t force you to start a huge segment over and over again if Sly buys the farm.
I’ve had this game for a couple of month’s now. It’s a great game overall, there’s really nothing wrong with the gameplay, audio graphics and it never gets boring. The only thing that could be changed and was changed in sly 2 is that you don’t really have any freedom in roaming around the enviroments. I reccomend this game to anyone but you should buy it with sly 2 and the upcoming sly 3 (Supposedly coming out in fall 2005)
