Quick disclaimer: I paid less than seven bucks for this game, so I’m basing this review on the quality of the product relative to that price point. With that in mind, here’s the skinny: First, the CONCEPT of this game is cool, actually, really cool… but the execution? That’s another story. Make no mistake, there’s definitely fun to be had here, but temper your expectations before you dive in.Mindjack puts you in the shoes of Jim Corbjin, a soldier caught up in a convoluted (and ill-explained) conspiracy to seek out the truth behind “Project Mindjackâ€; a technology that allows people to control the minds and bodies of others. The tale is largely throwaway, and does itself little justice with a lackluster script, cutscenes, and cookie-cutter voice acting.Essentially, the unique hook to this game is that it gives you the ability to either jump into the bodies of other entities on the battlefield; or after dealing sufficient (but not fatal) damage to your enemies, “Mindslaving†them to create allies that’ll fight by your side. Enemy variety is limited (soldiers, heavies, robots, and a few non-human opponents comprise the cast); and the AI offers only a mild challenge, provided that you make frequent use of cover. In fact, most of the deaths I experienced were the result of being too bold, periodically choosing to forgo cover and go in ‘guns blazing’. Oh, and the other times my character would die? This game wasn’t nearly as bad as people are saying. Just like that. It is a fun game deserving of praise. One of the few that actually have some kind of story to them anymore that don’t involve nukes or terrorists every couple of minutes. This is a game that’s just set in the future, just a messed up one, making Ghost in the Shell look normal in some aspects. It would have been better with the online play if more people actually played it, not the same 10 people every day. Was fun overall, but would have been MORE fun with more people. (I also see a sequel coming, no doubt, and trust me, far worse games have been able to pump out sequels.)
