This book was my first exposure to the Judge Dredd stories from 2000 AD, no better place to start than the beginning, right? I found the collection highly enjoyable. The individual stories are only about six pages long with rotating creative teams throughout. With most stories being so short (though there are a few that continue from one to the next)they are action packed! Dredd is a great character: he is the law in the future Mega-City One! The artists were mostly unfamiliar to me (other than the great Brian Bolland of course) but I found them all quite pleasing to the eye with lots of interesting page and panel layouts. My only complaint is probably the amount of time spent on Walter the Robot. I don’t mind comedy relief but speech impediment gags don’t work very well on the written page, I just find them annoying and difficult to read.
Good read. Interesting plot twists, some expected. Looks good in bookcase.
A nice trip down memory lane, this starts with the very first Judge Dredd feature in 2000AD and moves forward. It’s great to have them all collected in one place. The Kindle format displays each page but then progresses through a blown up view of each panel, so it’s really easy to read. A great way to have all this classic material available at a fraction of the space.
All good
Reading bits of this was a good way to get ready for my shift each night.
I really liked this book. It contains funny stories from the early days of Judge Dredd. The majority of stories are very simple and gives the reader a good understanding of what the world of Judge Dredd is all about.
Love these collected stories, and its great seeing the character evolve into what he is today. I highly recommend it.
good fun.To compare these stories to how Dredd is now would be unfair, early Dredd is badly written and lacks a lot of the wit of later stories but bearing in mind how old the comics are and that 2000ad was still trying to find its feet it it holds up surprisingly well.if you are new to Dredd comics i would recommend to avoid until you have read some of the later stories first, case files v7 onwards. but once you have it’s a great insight into the series roots and how the character evolved.
I’ve never read any of the Judge Dredd comics before and decided get this book to start the collection. I don’t regret it at all.The design work (cover and pages) is impressive; it actually looks like an old comic book. The first stories are good to know better about the character and the universe, even with some continuity issues with the script and the B/W art.
Usual dredd stuff
