Good -They feel like an snes controller, retro arch* detects them no need to map buttonsBad- the buttons on the direction pad sometimes stick and Mario will randomly dart into a hole, koopa trooper etc. I’m hoping they break in a little. The cords could be a little longer I needed to order extensions.*Neutral- don’t bother trying to get these to play Android apps on a Chromebook, Chrome OS will not recognize them at this time no matter how long you try. If you need a controller for a Chromebook stick to the controllers that are known to work.
Update: Excellent customer service. Quickly received two new controllers (opted for the https://www.retrolio.com/iNNEXT-Nintendo-Controller-Gamestick-Raspberry/dp/B0728DYPGM/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1531882616&sr=8-6&keywords=innext+controller their more angular controller with the four color buttons. The d-pad on the new ones seems to move at an angle better than up/down/left/right–great for Q-bert! I like the play-ability of these controllers, and the build of the newer ones. Five stars for great customer service and four controllers.Previous: Within a few days there were small surface cracks between the y and x buttons, b and a buttons and coming off the top of the select and start buttons on both controllers. One d-pad was stiff, but seems to be getting easier to press with play. They continue to work, but I am worried about durability. Considering returning them.
Great product for an even better price! Used them a few times now and I’m very impressed with the quality, responsiveness, and compatibility; used them on my mac and raspberry pi. I read somewhere, maybe from a different manufacturer (I can’t remember), about the cables coming out of the base after a while on these type of controls. So I decided to prevent that from happening on these ones, and share the trick here (see pic).Instructions: remove all 5 screws, remove the back, pull the cord out (very carefully not to loosen the end attached to the board), make a simple knot at about the same location as the cable was routed through the casing, ensure the left and right trigger buttons are in their positions, put the cover back on, and screw everything back together—done! I hope this helps others wanting to extend the life of these things.
I mean yea they work I guess, but I’ve had mine for less than 2 weeks and the wire cover has already pulled out of the controller exposing the wires. See picture*update*I was since emailed directly by the manufacturer and they apologized for any defective items. They are sending me 2 more controllers for the inconvenience. Great customer service, happy that they take pride in their products. Update 5 stars
Revised Review:The company reached out to me to say the controllers should both work with my systems, so they sent out replacements. After testing, they do work with RetroPi on SNES games (and N64 games, haven’t tested other types). The buttons don’t show any sign of wear so far, and the cables seem to be holding up nicely as well. The D-pad is not 100% like an SNES controller, but I only notice in games like Street Fighter II. Not a big deal for me, I’d rather play Mario RPG or Harvest Moon. Works fine in Super Mario World.Shoulder buttons are similarly *almost* great. Feel isn’t the same, more travel, and sometimes I miss the actuation. I’ll get used to it, and it’s not a failure point. On OpenEMU they work the same as RetroPi. On STEAM (for mac) they do not work at all (0% functionality) and do not show up in the "controllers" tab under settings. I’m ok with this, but took a star off. I’m sure these controllers are not faulty, since they work so well with the SNES emulators. They are advertised to work with Mac, and they do (OpenEMU) and are not labeled for Steam, but the company told me in an email that they should definitely work 100% with Steam. Maybe on Windows they do, but not on mac with the current updated version of Steam. I have a generic 360 controller (usb) that works with Steam on Mac, so I figured it should all be the same USB HID thing going on, but apparently it’s not quite the same? I don’t know enough about these things to say, but it’s not working.
My favorite gaming console of all time was the SNES! Mine died around 6 years ago and I have missed having it around. With these controllers and an emulator, I have it all again! These work flawlessly! They are the exact dimensions of the original SNES controller and feel perfect!Everyone that wants to play SNES games and get the whole experience needs to get these controllers!!Perfect! The 4 on the Ergonomics of the controller reflect on the Original controllers, because well, lets face it, they aren’t ergonomic at all. But I still love them!!
***UPDATE**After writing this review I was contacted by this shop to address my issues with the cord length. They explained that to get the best quality of controller they had to go with the shorted cord. The longer cord version of the controller was not of the same quality and performance of this version. To make up for the cord length they offered to send me a replacement wireless version. I can not commend this company enough in following up and explaining the whole issue to me. Then to beyond and offer me a replacement is just a class act for this company. The company fulfilled this order very quickly so you can’t complain about getting the item. The controllers themselves fill a lot like my original snes controllers. The only thing I can tell is very slightly off is that these seem just a tad bigger then the originals. It is nothing major but they feel ever so slightly bigger. My major issue with these are the length of the cord. These things are maybe 5 feet long. You may think 5 feet is long enough but it is not. I will have to buy some extension cables so I can use them. These things should be double the length. Just know when you order these that you will have to sit on the TV to use.All in all these work like they should. But I am not thrilled with cord length.
PROS: Works out of the box with RetroArch/Lakka/RetroPieWorks on AndroidFits nice in the handCONS:Very cheap feelingMaterial has marks on itDpad doesn’t feel preciseMushy shoulder padsOverall if you need a cheap and quickly working controller for you and a friend (my girlfriend feels the same about them and refuses to touch them), I wouldn’t say ignore them, but they’re not amazing.6/10.[UPDATE]:After a correspondence with the shop, they agreed to send me a pair of the new model other reviews have mentioned. The DPad is much more precise and stiffer, but almost too stiffThe buttons feel much nicerThe software chip inside is different than the old model, and not every emulator likes it, but you can coerce it usuallyOverall 4/5 on this new modelPlus the customer support is top notch :)
so bottom line is they work.they are shaped very close to original SNES controllers.I don’t like the fact that if you want them to look like a Nintendo controller, you have to pay more money ( ie: color scheme ), I order the black with colored buttons to save money.I am specifically using these on the Retro bit Super retro-cade system, because these actually have the correct button mapping.I have tried Better Built controllers but unfortunately the buttons are reversed and you cannot correct them.hopefully these will last quite a while with excessive use and hard button mashing.
These controllers are dope. Wall jumping in Super metroid is a breeze. concave X and Y buttons. Rubber start and select buttons. Smooth Dpad, up and down inputs don’t get mixed wth left and right inputs like most cheap end controllers. If you’ve got a Retropie setup going, these are absolutely the controllers for you.The only minor downside is the relatively short cords, which are in fact 5 feet as labeled in the description. i would recommend a USB extensions cord.Thank you iNNEXT!
