I’m a sucker for The Da Vinci Code film. I wasn’t a fan of the book, Dan Brown’s writing style doesn’t appeal to me, but the film is different for some reason. The central mystery is intriguing, with an ending that feels fulfilling and larger than life. The cast is phenomenal, with stars like Tom Hanks, Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina, Jean Reno, and Paul Bettany, it’s hard to go wrong. One of my favorite scenes is between Hanks and McKellen, discussing a series of clues, I always get wrapped up in their banter. The Blu-Ray I received had an HD digital copy that didn’t expire until February 2019. The bonus features are well rounded. It’s a good package for a dumb-fun movie.
5 of 5 stars for the movie The Da Vinci Code. This is the first of (currently) three books in the Robert Langdon series. Langdon (Tom Hanks) is a specialist in symbology (the history and meaning of various symbols from different cultures. Langdon is called to help the police in Paris with a murder. This starts a long chain of events in which various religious factions are chasing “the Holy Grail”. Langdon gains the help of a police officer who is the daughter of the murder victim. As the complex puzzle grows, Langdon reaches out for help from an old friend. This chain of events has several surprises as we learn some people are not who they appear to be (e.g. the lead police detective is actually a member of one of the religious factions and is trying to frame Langdon for the murder). Even Langdon’s old friend is not exactly who he appears, nor is his butler! Complex, interesting, exciting and compelling is this story. Langdon is no James Bond, but, he does well during action moments. Langdon somewhat reminds me of Indiana Jones; college profession who has interesting adventures with historical artifacts and legends.A shout-out to Ron Howard for outstanding Direction of this movie! I feel the movie was totally faithful to the book. The last 5 minutes of the movie is totally wonderful (from Langdon’s shaving accident). I can watch it over and over. On the Blu-Ray, there are details on how this scene was created. Simply Wow!Much has been written and debated over the historical v.
Movie was great and played/streamed flawlessly! So nice to buy instant videos on retrolio instead of having to drive to the store or order a disc online and wait for shipping! It’s hard enough to get all my kids together at once after dinner for a movie, but with instant videos and their ability to voice a vote and feed kids’ need to make things happen now it actually helps us to watch movies/shows together as a family better without the fighting!
Great Product!Excellent communication & quick delivery. Would recommend this product to everyone.
The cryptex did not disappoint. I used the cryptex in a scavenger hunt that I put together. If you buy the cryptex alone, it is absurdly expensive. Buying it with the box set saves a lot of money and you get the movie. The letters do not lock in place on the cryptex so you sort of have to hold them still while you unlock it. Despite this, it is still a great product, sturdy, and a cool thing to hide a note or gift in.The movie is pretty good too. Big fan of the Dan Brown books and the movie was put together well. I’d recommend the whole package.
Still a fresh "romp" through the possibilities of ancient legends. The best part is the absence of a contrived romance between the major characters.
This purchase was based on having already seen the movie in the theaters. It is a simply marvelous film which is based on a work of fiction by Dan Brown. I know it managed to hit the nerve of many a Christian religious leader around the globe, especially in America. I do find that very interesting. If you went to the theater or rented the video with the notion of being entertained by a story, then that is what you got. It is a marvelous tale! If you went to the theater or rented the movie with a preconceived notion of how it would be offensive because your preacher or pastor or priest had already filled your head with thoughts of the inaccuracies of the film, then you were more likely to be offended by its content. It is sad when our society is so full of itself and so certain of its self-righteousness that something like this can be the catalyst of so much controversy. The story was well-told which is why it got the hackles up on so many backs of the religious fanatics, but take their narrow-mindedness and short-sightedness with a huge grain of salt because they are without doubt the spawn of insanity. The story does provide food for thought and if that scares you, then crawl back into your little hole and pout and scream profanity about the insult you feel. Thought provocation is a positive thing and those who fail to see that are simply unable to see the good in anything that is contrary to their own reasoning. I enjoyed this movie extremely and I hope you are open-minded.
Dan Brown is a heck of a writer. Tom Hanks is a darn good actor. This was one of those rare occasions when two different genres/work styles come together and blend wonderfully.I doubt there’s anybody left in the U.S. who doesn’t now know about The Da Vinci Code. When it came out it created havoc in the Catholic church. How ‘dare he’ question the teachings? You know, someone SHOULD. This ‘what if’ is so well written many people, gullible ones, that is, have taken it as the truth. C’mon people, it says right there – FICTION.Anyway, the movie is well done, well produced, acted and directed. Hanks puts on one of his trademark stellar performances. Jean Reno, always a well received addition to any movie in my view, along with Ian McKellan and Audry Tautou play equally important characters in the movie.
first of all, this set came at an amazing price. i was in search of the cryptex alone as part of a christmas present. on ebay people were selling the mini cryptex for an outrageous amount. when i found this set, i was a bit weary. this price for an entire giftset? "no way.." well, yes way. the box came a bit mangled but everything was still packaged perfectly. dvd was still wrapped along with the booklet that came with the set. the cryptex is a hard metal casing that could break through glass easily and comes with instructions to change the code on cryptex to create your own riddle. this is no joke. happy i found the set a good price…now i can watch the da vinci code and the person who received the cryptex can either keep it for fun or pass it along with their own riddle. completely worth it.
This is a pretty good movie. Book’s better and if you’re a Christian you have to take everything in it with a grain of salt (or perhaps a bowl of pretzels), but it’s entertaining and has a lot of cool "What if?" conspiracies and a satisfying storyline.
